Chilean court decided on Monday not to charge any of late Dictator Augusto Pinochet's family members in a long-running investigation into the origin of the general's fortune and his suspected embezzlement of public funds. Read full article
I always thought that General Frei of the FACH was a far better man than Pinochet. Pinochet had sticky fingers worthy of a country to the north-west of India.
17 million of unknown origin...
I suppose the old geezer just couldn't help himself, or maybe it was the price he thought fair for saving Chile from Communism. Freedom ain't free I guess.

Confirmed. Chilean justice always support state terrorism in his country, supported by United Kingdom and the United States. . Protects especially as Pinochet genocidal dirgente class of civilian and military.
Shame to José Miguel Carrera and Bernardo O'Higgins
US$ 17M of unknown origin.......Mmmmm....how much of known origin has the Concertacion coalition robbed from the fiscal funds during its 20 years term at the office in Chile...???
3.000 died person because the almost internal civil war on 1973 was really a liberation war that allowed the country to take a very different path to be a vigorous growing country, the envy of a lot of LA región and an example to follow for the remaining ones.....and mainly a dangerous example for the statized leftist countries like Cuba.....And, this number contain the military casualties that weren´t small, tought....
In the event of Mr. Pinochet took this millions from the fiscal funds, this cost would be a trinket compared with the benefit his actions has meant for the brilliant future we have now, specially the last 4 years with a true Gvt.
Now, if we compare that amount with those we know every day through the media that politicians from all the LA (and the rest of the world too) are hidding as pocket money we can said that Mr. Pinochet was a true Spartan Governor who spent insignificant money or received mínimum bribes from internal or external lobbies.
From the side where you look at this issue you can get that the media press that has suffered the people that supported the military Gvt. has been too excesive to the extreme that even the US took measures against us considering they helped to the Chilean Armed Forces to liberate the country. The reason is that the media has been manipulated from long time ago by the leftist parties all over the world as a weapon to win the war against the democratic countries....
A thief steals. If he stole it, from whom did he steal it?
Anonymous donors chose to support the General and there is nothing wrong with that. When he came in empty handed Chilean GDP was $10B, when he left GDP was $80B ... an increase of 700% !!!
If $17 million got you a Pinochet, half the countries in the world would be placing their orders right now.

You do know that Brazil was a major donor to the Pinochet fund, right?
@10 condorito.....
I'm sure the Egyptians would love to place an order. If Pinochets were up for auction on eBay the price would surely be at least 1.7 billion. The old geezer believed in tough love, but who can argue with the results.
The current positive Chilean* reality has been achieved by ALL Chileans**…
It wasn’t achieved because of some honour-less criminal…
It has been achieved DESPITE of him…

You want Think to rename him and give the man a more English sounding name? How about... George? Perhaps renaming the grandmothers of the May Square into just that?
