Uruguayan president Jose Mujica said that Mercosur should give its members more space to negotiate with third parties and supported linking to the Alliance of the Pacific, which nevertheless he argued is “part of a geopolitical involving China” and not accepted by Brazil. Read full article

Patriota says it is nothing more than a marketing exercise.
Mujica says it is the sinister work of the Chin.
MP's lefties say the Pacific Alliance is Yankee meddling....

”Lula da Silva said that the Pacific Alliance, “hides the geopolitical interest of weakening Mercosur, Unasur (Union of South American Nations) and Celac (Community of Latinamerican and Caribbean states)”
Aug 07th, 2013 - 06:09 pm - Link - Report abuse 0All Pacific Alliance members are part of CELAC you were there in it´s first summit Mr Da silva, remember? Chile, Colombia and Peru are part of UNASUR and have yet to bring dificulties to it just because of them being part of the Pacific Alliance too, also, most of those countries are at least associates or guests, in the case of Mexico, of Mercosur.
“I know Brazil is very significant and I’m not going to change the world with statements. Uruguay is not relevant but Brazil really has weight, and if Brazil moves to one side or the other it pulls as along, and China somehow is a rival” said Mujica Well, at least one of them stopped acting as if the Pacific Alliance was the one isolating China XD, but anyway, I don´t think Brazil´s relationship with China is really the problem or the cause for it´s distaste of PA, BRICS and Chinese investment are some of the reason´s why Brazil keeps good relations with China.
“What I really care for is the Paraguayan people, not only because they are brothers but in Uruguay we have very deep and close historic ties”, said Mujica. That´s a very nice thing to say, but given recent expressions, those words really lack any kind of substance behind them IMO.
All in all, those are interesting rwactions, it seems Pacific Alliance is awakening on them all a reaction but aren´t sure about how to react to it yet, I am still waiting their reaction over China, USA, Turkey and South Korea new observer state at the alliance. One of the reasons I like PA is the way it´s making change just by being there and progressing on it´s own proyect. Now lest hope PA keeps doing that :-)
The main difference between mercosur and PA is the pragmatism and the respect of their leaders between themselves. Besides being the more efficient and growing economies of the region, per capita income in the Pacific side of S.Am. already is higher than in the Atlantic, and keeps growing. Also in none of the PA´s countries the dollar is an issue.

Aug 08th, 2013 - 12:39 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The concept of contractual terms only works until something goes wrong and then one party looks to sue someone outside the contract (which can be accepted by the judge) and the responsibility is on the party being sued to prove they were not involved!
