Gibraltar opposition Leader Daniel Feetham has urged a cooling down of the language in the row with Spain and confirmed that the GSD Opposition would agree to quadripartite talks with Spain so long as the Gibraltar delegation retained its own separate voice, vote and veto. Read full article

Let us hope that the apologist opposition Leader Daniel Feetham never takes charge in Gibraltar.

You can see why Fabian Picardo is the right guy to deal with the mendacious twins of Rajoy and Gollum.

I think the obvious response to this would be, “hence the reason he isn't in power”. The only thing the Spanish/Latam understand is a good battering and never show any weakness to them.

Hmmm, his words seem to boil down to “i wouldn't have done what the gov't did, but i'm not going to undo it if I get into power”. Is he Ed Milliband in disguise?

Daniel, are you recommending that Gibraltans behave themselves and appease their fascist neighbors for a quiet life ? That's a hopeless strategy. If their not moaning about the reef its tobacco, if its not tobacco its money laundering or land reclamation or bothering fisherman or your right to have any waters or even your very existence on their land mass. I thought you guys had had enough of being Spain's whipping boy.

Fabian Picardo's robust stance is exactly what Gibraltarians need. The fact is the reefs stop drag netting that is illegal-so much so that the Spanish can't do it in their water as they have similar reefs.

Picardo has challenged Spain to go to the ICJ, and by standing up to them they will either back down or get worse and draw in British support on limiting Spanish tourism, voting against them in the EU, and in terms of supplies-Gib can source from Morocco-which could open up another can of worms bringing in Ceuta etc

It is similar to Falkland Island MLA's finally putting their case to challenge Argentina's. Would be good to see a 'Picardo' in the Falklands.
Feetham will simply encourage Spain to take more off Gibraltar.

Also if things hot up, more emphasis could be put on the fact Catalonia has been denied a referendum on independence by Spain.

Spain with it's failed economy will only make itself worse by attracting malevolence from Britain who cannot politically leave Gibraltar to hang out and dry.

And it's Gibraltar, not Spain helping to alleviate the unemployment that Spain cannot deal with just over the border.

Doesn't seem that Rajoy has any aces in his pack.
