Global efforts to battle trade protectionism need to be reinforced to help shield the fragile economic recovery across the world said a report released on Monday by the European Commission in which it claims Brazil and Argentina are among the main offenders when it comes to import duties hikes and government procurement limitations. Sep 02nd, 2013 - 09:49 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Ecuador receives almost no investment and even none-too-bright Rafa has finally realized that they desperately need it. He has had his team working away on a raft of bilateral FTAs, soon to be announced. Of course he can't call them FTA so he has come up with DTAs (Development Trade Agreements LOL) to save face.
Luckily for Ecuador, Rafa might just let reason creep in to policy.
Argentina and Brazil pointed out by Europe for protectionist practices
Sep 02nd, 2013 - 11:58 pm - Link - Report abuse 0In related news, United States p0inted out by Britain as having really bad food.
Europe calling countries protectionists...
Sep 03rd, 2013 - 12:37 am - Link - Report abuse 0That would be like having USA blaming other nations for having WMD's...
Or having Brits telling others they are corrupt...
Come on folks, do as I say and not what I do...
@ Stevie
Sep 03rd, 2013 - 01:56 am - Link - Report abuse 0Define corrupt. I have never in my life had to bribe an official here. And all our senior politicians have to put their shares into a trust so that they cannot buy or sell when in office. I've never even been ripped off by a taxi driver unlike in 2 other EU countries.
@4
Sep 03rd, 2013 - 07:07 am - Link - Report abuse 0Got to agree with Redrow here. I've been to the UK many, many times and I've never been ripped off (at least not that I'm aware of) unlike my hols in Spain last year where everybody was at it, bars, shops, restaurants all tried it on even the traffic warden (or he may have been a policeman - some guy in uniform anyway) in Calpe told me that for 10 euros he wouldn't issue me a parking ticket (60 euros) - I declined and he walked away without issuing the ticket either.
Just got back from Canada where you can buy anything from anywhere. Same old same old here...nothing is available...and what is cost 4 times the real price.
Sep 03rd, 2013 - 07:26 am - Link - Report abuse 0@2 Depends where you go. Latino type food is truly shite. It's not the ingredients, it's the recipe. Latino food should be banned around the planet. It's all contaminated. Remember this. If you travel in the South Atlantic, insect grubs from Africa are safer than anything from latam!
Sep 03rd, 2013 - 07:43 am - Link - Report abuse 0@3 Hang on a minute. Latam is more corrupt than anywhere else in the world. Recent example in mercoslut. Treaty says new member only admissible if agreed by ALL full members. Suspension, especially when illegitimate, doesn't remove membership. So Venezuela's incorporation is knowingly corrupt. And the criminals are.................? And, as for WMDs, argieland, Bolivia and Uruguay already have them. argieland has CFK, Tinboy, Putridjelly, Lorenzino. All nerve agents. Not only do they all have a nerve, but they get on everyone's nerves. Bolivia has Morales. Like mustard gas, he gets up everyone's nose. And Uruguay has Mujica. A bit like being bombarded with faeces.
@2 You shouldn't criticize Britain for issues unrelated to the story. Protectionism has a long standing historical record for failing miserably.
Sep 03rd, 2013 - 09:49 am - Link - Report abuse 0Britain at one point tried to impose restrictions on the colonies, though the distance made it difficult for the crown to enforce them. In defiance, the colonies illegally manufactured their own goods and prospered. I'm in favor of exercising common sense and defying the Botox Queen's idiotic laws to save the economy at least to some degree.
Smuggling and bribing have shot up since 2008. What does that tell you?

Sep 03rd, 2013 - 11:41 am - Link - Report abuse 0You ask Mr. Stevie to Define Corrupt and then you give us some anecdotes about the Uncorrupt England.......
I have repeatedly commented in these pages about one of the most enormous cases of corruption in the history of the World, British Made and based in your capital city of London....:
*** LIBOR ***
LIBOR is not about a taxi driver short changing you for a tenner or an official taking a 100£ bribe.....
LIBOR is about London Banksters in collusion with the British Government robbing you, me, and the rest of the World of trillions of Pounds YEARLY for a period of ~30 years......!
Curiously, the ONLY response I ever got from an Anglo about LIBOR was from Mr. Briton, one of the sweetest Turnips in here that candidly admited that LIBOR was too complicated a thing for him to understand.......
Is LIBOR too complicated for you to???
Let me spell it to you...............................................: L-I-B-O-R
In other words...: Humonguous corruption on a global scale.
Made in Britain....
Is the above Definition of Corruption good enough for you???
@ 9 Stink
Sep 03rd, 2013 - 03:08 pm - Link - Report abuse 0“Let me spell it to (for) you...............................................: L-I-B-O-R”
Clever boy, you can spell it!!!
Now explain what it is, and how it works???
Because “trillions of Pounds YEARLY for a period of ~30 years......!” from you and the rest of the world, sounds to me like someone is up for a Knight Hood.

And he still does,
Far to dammed complicated, but then I think that was the whole point of the action in the first place,
For is it not true that the biggest criminals [so they say]
Are normally the ones in charge like governments.
Still,
That’s my little contribution…lol
and thanks for the comment..
Now one has to explain their own news for them in their own news site...
Sep 03rd, 2013 - 04:52 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Britain is corrupt as few, and your perception of it has little to do with that fact.
In fact, one of the decisive factors in the corruption, is that very own perception.
You also perceived your government as trustworthy...
...
I'm not going to explain you lot your own news, merely ask you to stop being so... perceptive...
How about we add some weight to this rather than good old Stevie's own biased view and el thinks bizarre take on reality.

Sep 03rd, 2013 - 05:08 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Look at my list
1. Britain
2. USA
I might have switched place on top 2...
Well you're entitled to your own opinion chap, it just doesn't seem that anyone else other than Think supports it but then think would, wouldn't he? Anything anti-British in his eyes is good.
Sep 03rd, 2013 - 05:11 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I see Argentina unsurprising doesn't do well.......
In your list?
Sep 03rd, 2013 - 05:18 pm - Link - Report abuse 0That one of perception?
Well, you wouldn't perceive it, not even having your government lying to your face about reasons as to why invade a Sovereign nation.
You wouldn't perceive it, should your government stick (in)security cams in your face as soon as you´pull that zipper up.
You wouldn't perceive it, should it come to light that your bankers are responsable for the biggest scam known to man (not counting the birth of conq...).
All in all, your country is so corrupt, you don't even notice.
Everyday life is not perceived as corruption, as you are living proof on...
Again opinion of yours Stevie and nothing else, you're clutching badly now.
Sep 03rd, 2013 - 05:26 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The UK isn't at the top of the list but thrashes most SA countries on the list (rather unsurprisingly).
We can by all means chase our tails and state all of our countries problems but ultimately that list is from a diverse set of results and not a single individual and as such counts for a much more.
However old chap, you're entitled to your opinion and should be free to express it.
As for me noticing? Well I did leave the armed forces because I didn't believe in what we were asked to do anymore and I did vote the government out that lead the military into war. So as a reasonable, reflective and honest man I believe I've made my change.
We can by all means chase our tails and state all of our countries problems but ultimately that list is from a diverse set of results and not a single individual and as such counts for a much more.
Sep 03rd, 2013 - 05:30 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I understand you'd say that. taking the circumstances into account, that's a great excuse...
That said, respect to your choice. A choice that, if true, makes Britain a less corrupt nation.
I have nothing to gain in lying. I served 8 years in the Royal Navy and didn't support the activities the government asked us to do anymore and I voted again labour. I still support the military however and am grateful for my time in the Royal Navy.
Sep 03rd, 2013 - 05:39 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I can't speak for everyone, just myself like you speak for yourself Stevie but many of us do try to do the right thing. The vote against striking Syria is good evidence of that. We don't need more wars and we don't need to try and fail at being the world police in my view.
If Syria is using chemical weapons and found by the UN to be doing so against its own population then I'd hope the countries in its region are the first to deal with this.
I think if you spent time in the UK you'd find the population to be quite pragmatic and now less trusting of the government.
That is fine indeed Xect, and should you care about my view on the matter, I think UK military needs more men like you.
Sep 03rd, 2013 - 05:50 pm - Link - Report abuse 0But that doesn't change the fact that while UK invades Sovereign nations on false grounds, their bankers scams the entire planet to fill their pockets and your very own private rights are being restricted, we have a President that donates 80% of his salary to social Projects.
Maybe we do perceive Uruguay as more corrupt than you do the UK, but that doesn't mean we are more corrupt, merely that we are more picky...
Uhhhh..Think DOES know that LIBOR allegedly rigged interest rates LOWER, to continue fueling the economy and spending -- but -- ignoring risk. and saved the average, common Josephina a LOT of money in mortgage, car, grad ate ed, and refi interest.
Sep 03rd, 2013 - 06:11 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Wasn't a good thing because it wasn't level-headed, but it saved money for the average person.

Sep 03rd, 2013 - 07:28 pm - Link - Report abuse 0No clues please.
I am eagerly awaiting Stink’s explanation as to how some, “(Brit) fat cats” in London are eating caviar and drinking Champagne at his expense.
Priceless!!! Warm Glow all over.
Ripped him off of his hard earned loot, newly stolen from the SA natives.
There is a God.
Face it.
Sep 07th, 2013 - 06:04 am - Link - Report abuse 0When it comes to corruption, Argentina easily wins over both the UK and US.
Argentina scores 102 points, while UK only gets 74 and US of A a measly 73. At the very bottom we find New Zealand, Denamrk and Finland with 1 (one) point each.
:-D :-D :-D :-D
