US President Barack Obama has warned that Wall Street should be concerned that a conservative faction of Republicans is willing to allow the country to default on its debt. The US government has partially closed after Congress failed to agree a budget and will run out of cash on 17 October unless its debt ceiling is raised. Read full article

Oct 03rd, 2013 - 08:05 am - Link - Report abuse 0Anyhoo, I love less fed gov. This is like a super neat holiday for me.
I know! We raise the debt ceiling so we can borrow even more Money in order to pay the old debts. Then we push the production up in a never-ending spiral in order to keep that GDP up so it doesn't look like we owe everything we have, and more!
Oct 03rd, 2013 - 08:11 am - Link - Report abuse 0Easy to have a cheap shot at USA on this one, but the numbers per capita shows that Europe is in the same hole, but a little deeper...
So, you like National Parks being closed, and museums? Those big government places are really evil! Sorry, you don't understand irony...

Ha ha
BTW yankeebobo you can get a brain transplant in Argentina and for free. Oh! wait a minute will be not possible as little brain like yours would be very difficult to find outside USA.
I have a Scottish friend... ha ha
It would be highly unfortunate if the USA did default -
Oct 03rd, 2013 - 11:55 am - Link - Report abuse 0as well as creating havoc in world markets and destruction of confidence in the worth of the world's reserve currency,
it would place the USA in the same swivel-eyed rag-bag (to mix my metaphors) as default-ridden Argentina ... what company to keep!
I do not believe that the dollar will continue being the currency trading world for longer. It's a lot of responsibility for a country full of problems and who is losing expressiveness every year.

....coincidently when the US is doing well the rest of the world seems to...

Oct 03rd, 2013 - 01:00 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Since there is no feasible alternative, at least in the short term, the status quo will remain. I'm aware that, particularly from China, there has been pressure for a change to this, but who apart from the PRC would want that?
Of course, if there is a default, which some of these swingin' Tea Party'rs have no problem initiating, all bets are off and your beliefs may come to fruition.
World-wide golden jubilee time.

Oct 03rd, 2013 - 01:59 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Yes...Argentina perfected it based on volume of procedures completed.
This man, Obama, is increasingly acting childish. The US would gain on allowing VP Kerry to replace him.
Oct 03rd, 2013 - 03:18 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The US has already defaulted on its debt, long time ago, but they just don't pay back the money, because they are the SUPERPOWER, so they can do whatever they want, whenever they want.

Oct 03rd, 2013 - 04:37 pm - Link - Report abuse 0This is proof of USA bankruptcy?
It must be easy to get convicted of crimes in brazil if this is proof.
Oct 03rd, 2013 - 04:52 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Are you truly as ignorant as your posts? Somehow I doubt it, but yopu can be convincing.
@18 Brasileiro
Oct 03rd, 2013 - 05:00 pm - Link - Report abuse 0You will know when the USA becomes bankrupt.
The world's international markets will fall dramatically (what with the dollar being the international reserve currency), the effect would be far worse than the wall street crash of the 1930's, and international trade will slow to a trickle.
The effect on every country would be felt, including Brazil.
The world needs another reserve currency. At one point they thought it could be the Euro, but that is far too unstable. The Yen, ditto, and Chinese currency? Well their exchange rate is as phoney as Argentina's.
The only other currency in the world that is relatively stable would be Sterling. Unfortunately, this currency, although accepted throughout the world, isn't nearly as wide spread or supported as the US dollar.
So cackle if you wish about the US, but if they become bankrupt, so will many other countries in the world, especially developing countries that rely heavily on the dollar.
This is a shameful situation in the US. Politicians serving themselves and not the country.
I'm glad this sort of thing cannot happen in the UK. If it did, the Queen would dissolve parliament and force the politicians to answer to the voters, something that they would avoid at all costs.
It's a pity the USA doesn't have a non-partisan person who can stand above politics and force the politicians to do what's best for the country OR face the voting public.
Half words to answer a direct question. Perhaps USA has more problems!

Oct 03rd, 2013 - 05:57 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Lep I agree that it is shameful and once again my politicians embarrass me and many Americans. But you know that the Americans that care from a world perspective can only vote out their representatives. And you know as well America's view of a non elected head of state.

Oct 03rd, 2013 - 08:27 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Right, picky one, I am sorry for the mistake. I should have wrote Vice President Joe Biden.
Next in the line of succession is Speaker of the House John Boehner, followed by President pro tempore of the Senate Patrick Lehahy, and then Secretary of State John Kerry.
Any of them will be ok to me.
Lol so you read the line of succession, it does not change the fact of your error. Was one to think you meant the VP Biden or was referring to Kerry? How would one know? Why get irked at me for you mistake?
Oct 03rd, 2013 - 09:07 pm - Link - Report abuse 0OMG, it's the end of the world. No it's not. Flash news, the US is already bankrupt. BTW, the days for the dollar as the worlds reserve currency are numbered and life will go on. For the people in the US it is a golden opportunity to take over the Private Federal Reserve (that does not answer to the people but only to the zombie banks...as I typed many times here, the QE's only exist to keep them alive, which cannot continue .if they taper, the game is over. Doomed if they continue, doomed if they stop), put it back in the position to work for the publics interest and let the T.B.T.F. banks FAIL and start over.

Oct 04th, 2013 - 12:39 am - Link - Report abuse 0We can find errors on every post here, it´s a forum and not a crystal gallery of spotless posts. It´s a practice a bit rude, pointless, distracting of the main subject and it´s delay the whole experience.
BTW, did you know that Lol means L aught Out Loudly ? It´s an acronym, you should write LOL instead.
You wrote ... the fact of your error. and Was one to think... that not sound right to me, do you think on another language and then translate it to English?
Please don´t take it as a criticism, I am just pointing that it is possible to endless cross posts about other people´s perceived errors. We should instead have an open mind and be tolerant, we should focus on the main subject of the thread and not hit at random.
I don't take anything here personally or critical. But.......how was I to know you meant Biden or Kerry? Simple question. If I said VP Timmerman, would you not wonder if I meant Timmerman or Boudou?
Oct 04th, 2013 - 12:47 am - Link - Report abuse 0So the USA will default (again), and before Argentina?
Oct 04th, 2013 - 01:34 am - Link - Report abuse 0Who'da thunk it?
HAHAHAHAHA.
Yes, I like the National Parks being closed. All those ATVs riding around. The wildlife needs a break, MORE than every couple of decades.
Oct 04th, 2013 - 03:58 am - Link - Report abuse 0As for health care, the program in my state is universally acknowledged to be better than the one which just makes it illegal to NOT buy private insurance. They definitely need to improve the system, raising rates by 1000s of dollars-that's NOT an improvement. But they'll get there.
Outside of my state, one out of three Americans get a disability designation before they even turn 62, when they qualify for free/incredibly reduced care as seniors.
If you were partially physically or mentally disabled (this includes pain and depression) you already got free insurance from the Fed.
@29
Oct 04th, 2013 - 04:00 am - Link - Report abuse 0I would not know who you meant, of course.
When I read something I do not understand, I think about it. Maybe I do an educated guess. If all fails and I really care about the issue, then I ask about it nicely. Not that hard once you get used to it.
@30
Sure the US might default on a few days. But it might not. Argentina, on the other hand, will default of a few months for sure.
America, as a continent, got many less than ideal presidents of late. A pity, we can only hope to get rid of them as soon as possible.
Let's get beyond it Luis. I was not insulting you nor you were me.
Oct 04th, 2013 - 09:15 am - Link - Report abuse 0tobi....American politics stink of the 2000's, but it still is golden in light of Argentina. You've never traveled to comprehend that.
@Captain Poppy
Oct 04th, 2013 - 01:24 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Default or not default? that is the questing...
I guess that politicians that want to send to default USA because do not like OBAMACARE is a good sign that US is another banana republik but soon without bananas because will not be able to import from Ecuador.
Ha ha

Oct 04th, 2013 - 06:52 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Calm down Pops
...... you have been like a bear with a sore head....it's no big deal!
The US will not default, the debt ceiling will be raised....they will soon have to import less oil and will export gas....they are good for the next 30 years....huge shale deposits.
Though someone should be brave enough to raise the cost of fuel over there....in the UK gas (petrol) is almost 10 dollars a gallon
Your electricity is cheap.....
Your food and general goods are far cheaper than Europe....
Relax the last time I checked the US was still the only superpower in the world....;-)
You must have a twitching clitoris if you think that I am un-calm.
Oct 04th, 2013 - 07:55 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I am always confounded when you take these leaps and assumptions.
Yes.....those days as an advisor in the jungles...........they definitely were good times to be had. But it definitely was not SA......but the opportunity was there.
