Russia making inroads as defence and technology supplier to Brazil

Russia has sold all sorts of defense systems to Syria, only to have the Israeli air force make a joke of their defense technology entering Syria to bomb targets every time they wish to do so, and every time the russian defense systems failed to stop them!!

Didn’t Brazil post a ship to air missile battery “of its own” with a statement more was to follow? Must have had problems, but that will be nothing to the problems they will have with the Russian gear: India are already claiming money off them for the junk they sold them.
Hello United Nations. Brazil is “militarising” the South Atlantic. Being virtually “united” with all the other states of South America, what is its justification for buying Mi-35 attack helicopters or anti-aircraft missile batteries? Why would it need fifth-generation combat aircraft? Why would it even need fourth-generation? Who is Brazil going to attack?

Would Brazil or Venezuela go for Peru? It does have the Mi-29. Chile has F-16s that could waste the Brazilian air force in no time. Argieland is quite safe. The wings have fallen off most of its aircraft. Certainly all the Mirages are grounded! Perhaps we should just let them immolate each other.

Afghanistan, Chechnya and Georgia.
Yes, the Mi-35 would be very effective against “guerillas” or freedom fighters. If any of your indigenous Amazonian tribes caused bother by refusing to move from their ancestral lands, I am sure that a visit from a few Mi-35's would persuade them of the error of their ways.

My guess is that Brazil will be spending most if its wealth on infrastructure, which it badly needs, you have no overseas territories to speak of? In previous years, we did not need to concern ourselves with this much. Times are better now, and with continued new oil discoveries off-shore, we seek to upgrade DEFENSE weaponry and logistics. We wish to protect those assets, as any country would, and will partner with countries that allow us the opportunity of technology transfers , upgrades, and joint-venture manufacturing.
Strength and respect through DEFENCE. Or continued Peace through superior firepower, if you will.
Yes....superior Russian technology is certainly the way to go then, especially their sub fleet technology.

But as the article states, the existing contract does not allow that option. Our emphasis is on ” a strategic partnership based on the joint development of technology.” This is a long-term DEFENSIVE strategy, of independence and mutually-shared technology, and not merely dependence, as in the past.
Times have changed for Brasil.

Any country with a fleet of Eurofighters but Dilma wouldn’t buy them any because we are not stupid enough to let you have the technical capacity as well. The UK is also going to get the Boeing 35 once the teething problems are ironed out with some of the super advanced systems it uses.
BTW “maximum quality” is not how anybody who knows modern warfare technology would describe Russian equipment. It is true that they can at least manufacture their own jet engines (the Chinese cannot) but the reliability has proven suspect: http://www.strategypage.com/htmw/htatrit/20130226.aspx
Submarines may not be on the agenda but they will be! The “nuclear” subs Dilma coverts are totally inappropriate for the “DEFENCE” purposes you say you need it for. Dilma claims oilfield defence but you could do that far better and have at least two subs for the cost that will do the job instead of one which will not.
Modern diesel / electric subs cannot “kettle” like the poorly designed and constructed nuclear one that France will be making for you. Do you really think that France will not ensure some kettleing happens at all reactor demand rates? They have their own nuclear subs and will not risk a really quite one operated by a SA country sinking it, because whether you want to admit it or not submarines are an attack device.
Diesel electric subs run on the batteries when submerged and are virtually silent. Your sub will be a sitting duck if it is ever attacked by one.
I would stick to B&O if I were you, you might know more about them.

I agree that it is not that necessary when discussing the DEFENCE of oil operations, but this is a large country we are discussing, roughly the size of the United States.
And rest assured, the Bang & Olufsen audio and visual system is alive and well. I just finished watching Michael Portillo Great Continental Train Journeys (Switzerland) on the wide screen via WIFI with the PC.

Brazil has a cracking military force. We literally would not last an hour of war second to studies. A country this populated, resource rich and big needs all the equipment it can buy and for this I must relutanctly applaud Lula. I may be wrong, but it was him who started a program to renew our defence power.

You really think buying other's weapons will hold up they day you need to fight a country outside of SA? I guarantee you that Russia has more back doors in the software than the White House has. Good luck with that equipment with that when it's time to wax on.
