'Salvador de Bahia' ... haven't heard of the local state-capital being given its historic name for many years! Since Darwin's day, even.

Still this helps US citizens to realise that it is not El Salvador we are talking about (they have heard of this place from their US days of 'dark dealings', but might not know that 'El' is a different country - probably a different Continent!).

In spite of this, the US broadsheets keep running articles designed to dissuade people from going to the World Cup.
    Woooo! Too dangerous by far!

The UK Consul is distinctly exasperated by US 'reporters coming to Brasil for the day and writing Armageddon-stories.
The Consul lives in the city 24/7/365 and has an infinitely better and more balanced understanding than the part-time stringers for the Washington and NY Times.

Come, you US Americans! *Be less afraid of the world*.
We are not all out to get you on the streets and beaches - though in the games we expect to make you suffer ;-)

Stop diverting.....this is not about Americans. All you South Americans and some Euro' s need to get over your American penis envy and stop hating what you cannot be.

Well come on then ... offer some opinions of your own!
A bit of knowledge would be also useful.

“A bit of knowledge would be also useful.”

It certainly would. I await the day I actually see some from this “Citizen of the World” who is so frightened to tell us just where he comes from, but you seem to have struck a nerve here.
