Ain't yours, dumdum. Proved that in 1982. Obviously you don't include “international law” in your “knowledge”. “Uti possidetis” - is a principle in international law that territory and other property remains with its possessor at the end of a conflict, unless otherwise provided for by treaty.

See, THICKO, not argie territory, BRITISH national territory! But then you weren't going to be “honoured” for education or intelligence, were you? Just for “managing”.

But let's “educate” you. In the year 2513, the Falkland Islands will either still be BRITISH or they will be an independent country. A country that will have agreements and treaties with the United Kingdom. Agreements and treaties that will mean argieland will need to be polite. Or else!

Another thing, if international law supported them so much, then the UN 1) wouldn't have ordered the troops out in 1982 and 2) would've told the UK to give the islands back after the war. Neither happened, sucks to be Argie. Have a merry frickin' Christmas Fernandez.

There is no “controversy”. The Falkland Islanders, and UK, and most of the world passed that idea a long time ago.

The only prize this idiot should be awarded is the Golden Raspberry for being so gullible.

Only a fool would believe the fairytale that was created in the 1940s to suggest that Argentina had a legitimate claim on the Falkland Islands based on Spain's previous occupation, Jewett's brief statement or Vernet's colony.

As we all know (and history has recorded) the Spanish agreed to resolve the Falklands Crisis of 1770-1 by declaring that both Spain & Britain had legitimate claims on the Falkland Islands. A claim that Spain subsequently relinquished only in 1863.

Jewett's claim had no legality. He was acknowledged (by the Portuguese & United States) as a pirate. Any claim would be invalid for that reason alone, but he did not occupy the Islands, merely made his statement then left a couple of months later. Throughout that time, the Islands were visited by other ships belonging to Great Britain and the United States. Jewett did not even bother to tell the United Provinces about his claim. They heard about it a year later through press reports in other countries.

As for the Vernet colony, any reputable historian would record the fact that not only did Vernet seek permission from the British Consul to construct the settlement on British territory, but he provided regular reports to the consul. Even after the Lexington raid and the permanent British administration, Vernet continued to claim that the Falklands were British and stipulated this in documents he signed in London.

So much for the Argentine claim then - it has no legal validity and that's why the Argentines have never challenged the British claim in the ICJ.

All this Senator has proved is that he is a victim of the false history taught in Argentine schools and is too stupid to even bother to verify the facts for himself.

If he is so certain that the Islands belong to his country, then he ought to turn up in the UK and make his claim known - then he can be laughed at by the true academics.

Thought I would comment since this idiot has decided to shoot himself in the foot and make a complete fool of himself as an alleged 'educated' man he needs to go back to school and learn the TRUE history of the Falkland Islands...but, make sure its not a Argentine school as they perpetuate the lies.

It seems to me that the Senator could not afford to make the trip to the seminar, so came up with an excuse not to go - an excuse which he can make political capital out of.

The seminar is not exactly an esteemed body. Almost unheard of, seeing as it tries to coin on the reputation of the real Oxford University by using it as a venue, but it is actually a profit making corporation which sells seats to businessmen who want to rub noses with famous (retired) business people and academics.

I suspect that the EBA tried to get the Senator to come to the seminar on the promise that he would get an award for 'best university' and 'best manager', so that they could then sell him the hotel accommodation for the visit.

I've attended a few legal conferences in the past and I still get invites to attend more every few months or so. They are not cheap. Can cost as much as £500 to £1,000 and are regarded as 'jollies' paid for by the law firm as part of your career progression. Whilst there is some legitimate academic value of understanding the latest legal issues or recent court judgments, in truth, they are just a place to rub shoulders with your fellow professionals.

I suspect that the Senator was encouraged to attend the seminar on the basis that the EBA would then be able to sell it's conference seats to other academics in South America. They were simply expanding their sales regions. Only the Senator appears unable or unwilling to fork out for the air fare, let alone the conference fee and hotel. So instead he's suggested that he has a political gripe with the UK.

On a side note, I don't see the Argentine Government boycotting British products or services, or for that matter preventing their politicians from coming to the UK.

So if this Senator does not want to attend the seminar, at least he's shown his gullibility & stupidity for using the Falklands as an excuse.

Your senator is a halfwit, he ought to have more sense repeating lies the way he does.

He comes from a province that was stolen from Paraguay in 1871.

This guy seems to be a good manager!
Just the person to manage Argentina's war reparations that the British have in 'suspended claim' for the last 30 years - waiting for the arrival of such a great man.

Approximately 20,000 argies live and work in the UK at the moment .
They are mature enough not to give a sh*t who's troops occupy the Falklands .
Something doesn't ring true as regards this story .
If the fare and hotel were paid for , Salvador Cabral would have come over , because being a politician and an academic , he loves the sound of his own voice .
Maybe he is too busy with his campaign to make Posadas the new capital of Argentina ( and teaching pigs how to fly in the process )

I find details of this new university, but it was founded in 2008 in Paraguay.

This Senator-guy seems to be an Argentinian working in Paraguay.

    It must be humiliating for his family that he has to work in Paraguay;

    doubly humiliating that poverty-stricken Paraguay would be paying for his trip to Oxford University, one of the world's truly great universities;

triply humiliating that his family see him believing the redundant social construct that these South Atlantic islands are in thrall to Argentina, when all evidence shows to the contrary.

Yes, he is already so fundimentally humiliated that any international presentation cannot advance his career and reputation.

Feel very sorry for this man.

Will Oxford survive, d'you think? Is Oxford or Salvador Cabral Arrachea more likely to die in obscurity?

    Quite right, Think.
My Google Earth put me the wrong side of the river. Same town, same 'name'.
Is it REALLY a university? A 'regionally great' university?

Not really humiliating to me (or my family) ;-)
I shrug it off ... 'Hrrrr'

And judging by your name, well, you are not...
If you have an issue with gay people, take it with Anglotino. As for using the word as an insult, well you could also call me a woman, black, Chinese, Eastern European, sudaca... Just pick your discriminatory word of choice, but know the world has moved on...

    Da Crunt
Why do you care if people are gay?
Or do you think those who are don't know it yet, so you feel the obligation to let them know?
Or is it possible that you are on the hunt?

I still can't understand why you are so obsessed with people's sexuality...

I have to agree with Anglotino and even Stevie, here.
YOU started making “gay” comments out of the blue, and continue to do so.
-could it be that you're the classic homophobe with latent homosexual tendencies!

Maybe you should go back to cyber-bullying your schoolmates...
