Argentina’s socioeconomic statistics: still lying after all these years, says The Economist

Full article 141 comments

For years the IMF turned a blind eye as Argentina doctored its inflation index and plumped up its numbers for economic growth. Then last February the fund steeled itself and censured the country, warning it to improve its statistics by September or face potential suspension or expulsion. This threat was unprecedented in the fund’s history. Read full article

What do you think the real economic situation in Argentina is?

Not too good, but not too different than the US or the UK?

Stevie is upset that they can't hide the civil unrest as Argentina falls apart.

BTW Steverino, did you see the HUGE cash injection China had to make to quell their markets this week? They say their banking crisis is going to be worse than the 2000 USA crisis and 1990s Japan COMBINED.

All is going swimmingly Marx and Mao must be so happy.

They own our debt as an investment and Japan is overtaking them as the largest holder.
and the majority US Fed debt is held within our own country.

So again, you are mistaken, don't you get tired of being wrong so utterly and embarrassingly wrong all the time?

How come you aren't out with the rest of your citizens burning tires on the highways?
Do they have a schedule, are you up in a couple hours or what?

This will be 'training' for Snotty.

The Cruise Ship “protestors” aren't seeing as many liners this year, so they're teaching some of Snotty's Campora Juvenil to burn tyres while others are taught to BBQ the sausages.

Great 'transferable skills' for CFK's 'transition of power' or other political street entertainment :-)

Between the blackouts and Snotty's new duties, I expect he'll be away for at least two weeks

I live in BA part of the year. At my local bakery prices have doubled in the past 2 year period. That is not 10% or even 20% inflation per year. It is closer to 40% and it seems to me that is about true for prices at all restaurants where I frequently dine.

Just take a look of some prices from my wad of supermarket tickets:

    Bread - Pan de campo 1 kg: 2009 May $ 9.00; 2013 November $ 20.00

    “Bacon” - Panceta ahumada in Mercado Central 1 kg: 2009 May $ 45.50; 2013 November $ 125.90

    Toilet paper x 12 Elite Ultra doble: 2010 September $ 31.99; 2013 November $ 57.15

    Large bottled water - Agua mi Villa del Sur 6 l: 2010 September $ 9.50; 2013 November $ 19.90

I can’t remember you being wrong, except the time periods over which things happen and this is perfectly acceptable to most people apart from the Idiot of Mendoza (TTT, etc).

But what we have both been posting about China’s economy is most definitely happening now and it will only worsen.

Anglotino hit it smack on the head about the threat from the recent forecast on demographics. Rather belatedly the authorities have relaxed the one child rule BUT not decried the female infanticide that pervades the peasant societies. So nothing will change regarding more female births.

Why is it that China thinks it is “The Middle Kingdom” and that any of their peasants are more worthy than anybody else on the planet?

What is evident regardless of 'puffing up' is that the UK is in a very strong position now and for the foreseeable future. Ehereas Argentina (Spain and France) are in very poor positions.

Indis os indeed expected to have a larger GDP than the UK eventually. But then they have a mddle class larger than the entire UK population - bigger than the US's population.

Let me explain this one to your limited brain.
Now, consider youself lucky, I don't usually do, but I understand you are more prone to understand fuck all, so here you go...

The Economist (not the Guardian) had Uruguay as the country of the year. This butthurted a lot of you lot, possibly causing a further shortage of Venezuelan toilet paper. This led to you lot calling the newspaper a fraud (not the exact wording, but you her the idea). A day later, the same paper puts a story about Argentina...

You understand now, or do I have to cut it out in paper for you?

Well considering Argentina's government can't even get its own economic statistics right; seems everyone is on topic.

They employ economists that can't even tell the difference between ~10% inflation and ~30% inflation. While those of us that know “diddly-squat” can easily tell the difference.

@76 Thanks for your “explanation”. But, as subsequent posts demonstrate, you ARE a cretin.
@78 You have a problem. I will explain because I don't have a problem with assisting the less fortunate. You “think” that you're intelligent and educated. That may be the case. I, on the other hand, am intelligent, educated, experienced and balanced. Try to consider what you might be like in 40 or 50 years when you've added experience and balance. Assuming that no-one has met you face to face, listened to your self-important drivel for 15 minutes and then beaten your head into paste.
@80 And some more pointless drivel. Isn't there anybody wherever you are prepared to listen/talk to you? I'm not really surprised that you're friendless. But you could still accost strangers in the street and offer to buy them a drink. Follow that with a meal. Then you could take him home, bend over the couch and offer them a shag. All of them. It'll be a party. A bit like the Justicialist Party. Bribery, corruption and screw the people.
@81 And you've read, and understood, all of them? What about the ones that don't mention economy? We can all economise. We can do without you for a start. Isn't austerity wonderful?

    Just look:
    @90 Stevie
“And all of you are a lot of SA hating, bigot fascists, what's your point?”
    See, you really are “generalising”!
I can't speak for ALL the Brits, but I challenge you to find a racist anti-Hispanic post from me.
Like many others on here, I am strongly against CFK's government because of their blatant and insulting lies about the Falklanders, economic sabotage and blackmail, conspiracy theories of “British sepoys”, and deliberately provoking conflict by insulting us publicly - for monetary, personal, and political gain.
That goes for their propaganda arm, La Campora, and others that spread their damaging lies and misinformation, like the spiteful Trolls on this site.

The Trolls have Nationalistic political agenda. I have no respect for them or you.
I have nothing against the regular Argentine people, they are ruthlessly victimised by their government and it is condoned and covered up by people like you.
Others might have a problem with Argentinians - they did invade their homes, threaten their lives and the lives of their children, vilely desecrate their homes with urine and feces, cost hundreds of lives... need I go on?

    @90 Stevie
“And I don't hate Brits. Told you “Brits” is just a way for the English not to take all the blame themselves... ”

Thanks for admitting you hate the English, then.
Really, the English have not acted truly alone for hundreds of years, this must be a personal issue of your own.

As I said before, you claim you put “morals before Law” and you don't steal, but when it comes to CFK and her government, you turn a blind eye. That's pure hypocrisy - no moral ' high ground' for you.

You accuse us of racism and exclusion based on ethnicity because you know that is simply not acceptable for the Anglos to do that, yet you rant that “English” cannot be in SA - becuz of ethnicity.

I hate and if the majority of the English on this site are fascists, it's not my fault.
There are plenty of fascist yanquis as well, not to mention rasist Aussies... Just look at your sidekick friend, he travelled the world on his 20-hour-a-week salary. He even went scuba diving, and here he is, having a go at, what he thinks are, people poorer than himself.

The English shouln't leave because of being English. They should leave because they lack skills in adaptation. They are invasive of countries, cultures and, in their monolingualism, languages.
Just look at Chris. He loves his country of origin to the point he obviously had to leave. Now, he could choose freely where to go and outlive his tragedy, and so he did. He chose Uruguay.
But still he does little else than to talk down on is nation of choice, expecting us to act and live, not mentioning vote, as he would do.

English don't leave England, they bring England with them, imposing values and ways of lives, expecting to be well received.

And I'll stop generalising as soon as you lot do the same.

What REALLY upsets me if the utter wastefulness of the exceptional economy Vasquez left to Pepe to the point where some hard working Uruguayo are reduced to the level of the handouts to the workshy of the much vaunted and poorly though out “Social Inclusion” programme of the present government.

    “Imperialism is not ok.

It built the modern world and is the primary driver of humanity, even today, theres a reason we went from cave men learning how to make fire to building Artificial hearts the size of coins for babies; IMPERIALISM, it occurs everywhere, even in nature.

If you don't like the modern world that Imperialism created then you are a waste of skin in fact to hate Imperialism is to hate your very existence, so get used to it.

”Yes, I know. Argentina, blah, blah
Wanting what one considers is ones right, is not imperialism.
Argentina does not become an empire, should she get the islands.“

When did I mention ARG? What Argentina wants is the very definition of imperialism, however it won't benefit humanity like we British did and to a lesser extent the Spanish did, instead Argentina would turn a 3000 strong nation with the best qualities of life in all of South America into an impoverished Kirchner wet dream fuck up. Don't you dare think you can compare Britain, the nation of innovation and the birthplace of the modern age to a decadent crappy little ex-colony/fascist dictatorship.

As for the US, when did I mention them? We were discussing your hypocrisy not Iraq etc, The overwhelming majority of Britons were against the war from the start so how can you blame us? You always try to distance yourself from the dictatorship that ran Uruguay. Also of we were a vassal of the yanks we would have gone to war in Syria wouldn't we?

There is a difference between Iraq and Uruguay, we went illegally but with many good intentions and got rid of a dictator, and then we left. You lot stole a whole continent, wiped out the bulk of its population and still own it to this day. Utter Hypocrisy from yourself.

    Just like Sherlock, Lol.

I know were the Yanks spawn from, same way you were spawned; Imperialism. You see I have no problem with it nor do I have a problem with your forefathers cleansing SA so you could exist today. I do have a problem with un-informed Latinos like yourself using Imperialism as a derision when you are guilty of it yourself. I frequently have to bring up the same argument Im using with you, with the Yanks when they make derogatory statements about Britain and her Imperial legacy especially when it relates to Irish Americans. They conveniently forget that while Britain treated Ireland in a slave like manner on and off, they are residing on an entire content pinched from the natives.

And thats what makes Argentinas claim to the Falklands so ridiculous and hypocritical; it is the equivalent of Stalin calling out Hitler for the mass murder of 6 million when he was responsible for the mass murder of 20+ million.

But heres the other catch; The Falklands were uninhabited when Britain arrived, Argentina on the other hand, well.......history speaks a milestone of regret regarding that chapter in SA history.

Good Night my dear, try to think about what I have said and the way it relates to the current status of Argentina and the last of the old British empire.

It is refreshingly, and unfashionably, “non-apologist”.

Some interesting bits about how colonies and their indigenous peoples fared under the Spanish Empire and other European nations, as opposed to the British.

Still reading it - looking forward to some of the really good bits!

Connor.......most of us Yanks know our country is a product of imperialism and that we as a nation have displaced the indigenous people, I've stated that many times about all of the New World. However, I as an individual do not and will not carry any guilt for anything of the past that I had no control over.

However the SA troll seem not to realize that the non indigenous trollers are not native nor natural to this stevie. But also with stevie you never know anything real about it. Sometimes he implies he lives in Uruguay, sometimes in Europe (Sweden). Other times he is indigenous, mixed and others Euro decent. It seems if he were to fix himself to something he would not be able to roll out lies, even though he is often caught in them. They, stevie included never look in the mirror.

Troy sounds like an interesting read. Most of the eastern US was settled by the British and the south west by the Spain, including SA. A definitive distinction between the end results of SA and NA considering they both started at the same time.

English imperialism of really are a silly little turd aren't you Stevie?

Tell me silly little turd Stevie.....

There are 53 nations in the Commonwealth. The Commonwealth covers 1/4 of the surface area of the Planet and 1/3 of the population.

Nearly all these States were part of the British Empire. Today they are democracies, based on self-determination and common values. Nobody is forced to be a member.

Interestingly, none of these states needed to fight Wars of Independence (unlike French/Spanish, Portuguese territories),
None of these states despise the british colonial yoke,
All have an active trading and diplomatic status with the UK,
Many we actively assisted in their pursuit of Independence,

Indeed this year Scotland and Scottish inhabitants will be given the choice to vote for independence.

The evidence that England/Britain has ZERO imperialist behaviours is overwhelming, ...yet your racist retardation pretends that the liberation of Iraq, the actions in Afghanistan and the fact that fewer than 10% of the current US population is of English descent is somehow evidence to the contrary.

Poor Stevie, as impotent as he is stupid.

Stick to your wind turbines Stevie...pop a few of your acne spots, and try and get someone to take you seriously. You are just making a fool of yourself on here.

@126 Do try to understand. We recognise your need. But if your fart-arse neighbours, that you support, make another attempt on OUR property then, no matter what it takes, WE will OBLITERATE everything east of the Andes. Your faggoty little pipsqueak “states” aren't worth having. A pile of steaming shit is worth far more. Best example is argieland. Steaming shit and still faggoty. And desperate. “Butts spread, lubricated, desperate and fillable”. Nice to know that Stevie's still faggoty, butt spread, lubricated, desperate and fillable. Probably a “gobbler” as well.

Christ in a fucking tin hat! Did you read what I wrote????????

I might give that a look up as it does sound familiar.

Well said sir, like I said informed individuals like yourself are sensible enough to realise that states guilty of being former colonies really need to drop any arguments regarding Imperialism as it is both Hypocritical and a waste of time as with out it mankind would still be living in the caves.

But like I said when I have to make this argument it is usually very narrow minded Americans who think that because their, granddads-aunts-cousins-twice removed nephews potato came from Kerry, they some how have a right to butt into Anglo-Irish affairs especially with the likes of the PIRA or UVF and the other fucking scum that drove NI into a civil war.

Some very well pointed out facts there sir, well done! Mind you the narrow minded-ness of Stevie is probably oblivious to such basic knowledge.

Pleas get off our side, your rampant homophobia does not help.

Connor..........Kerry was my state senator and I hated him then, hated him now and did not vote for him, just as I hated Romney....he was my governor. With a population of 317 million, we have a healthy dose of idiots here that drink anyone's kool aid for next to nothing.

While it may be at times....difficult to criticize my government in international forums, it seldom if ever means I support all they do. In the military I had no choose, those days are long behind me. I will say this.....we spend too much time on short term fixes, short term friends and leaving long term legacy problems.

Actually the British Isles are overwhelmingly Germanic, with significant Celt blood as well, the two races have largely amalgamated. The Isles have also been predominately Germanic for the last 1600+ years.

    “You're Anglo.”

Theres little or no Anglo in me sir, I come from a Scots-Irish family.

So not only are you wrong about my background but you can't even display common-sense when it comes to the genetic make up of Britain and Ireland.

“I wouldn't know Andy, but it seems you made an entire society based on thieving and lying, so I guess you are right...”

Again a lot like Spain and her colonial off-spring eh Stevie? God you are so stupid.

Still can't admit you were wrong about Imperialism though can you? Still towing the pathetic SA line that everything wrong is the fault of Fascists and or the imperialists.
