The Sunday Telegraph reported a record number of Spanish incursions into Gibraltar waters last year, but its calculations in fact fell short of the final total, reports the Gibraltar Chronicle. Read full article
Oooh beware the crushing might of the Spanish state.
How ever will Gibraltar survive?
4 hour waits must have the 30,000 Gibraltans almost ready to roll over and throw away their high living standards, low corruption and unemployment and high growth rates and join Spain..... which has none of these.
Haha at Vestige, you're going have to do far better than that to even slightly worry anyone.
Everyone is absolutely terrified of the imposing Spanish state, you know the one that always runs away when anyone fights back, is on its knees and needs European financial handouts just to survive.....
@4 You are such a disappointment. One would hope that, after a reasonable period, even a pathetic moron could avoid patently fatuous comments. Seems you can't. Shall I waste time asking you to explain? No, because you couldn't if you tried. So here's the way it works. In 1713 Gibraltar was ceded to Britain IN PERPETUITY. If that's a problem for you it means FOREVER or UNTIL THE END OF TIME. So you should be able to comprehend that Gibraltar belongs to Britain. It is true that the oft-quoted Treaty of Utrecht doesn't mention territorial waters. It doesn't mention Gibraltar territorial waters AND it doesn't mention Spanish territorial waters. But there was no international agreement on territorial waters at the time. Now, you must have heard of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). It's one of those bits of international law that argieland constantly breaches. The current one became effective in 1994. But there was an earlier one that became effective in 1964. And that was when, for the first time, there was international agreement on territorial waters. And all coastal territories got them. Until then, the general rule was the cannonshot rule. Three miles. So Gibraltar got territorial waters when Spain did!
The ROYAL Navy arrives in Gibraltar regularly. At which time, for the most part, Spanish state vessels are conspicuous by their absence. Unsurprising as they are latinos and therefore, by definition, cowards. This has been seen before. In 1982 a dinky little British submarine took action against a pirate (criminal) vessel called Bell End....sorry, Belgrano. Amazingly, the WHOLE of the rest of the pirate fleet FLED. That was 13 vessels. Never seen again. Until reports of vessels sinking at moorings. But why send the Royal Navy? The British Army could use artillery or Apaches. The RAF could use Tornados or Typhoons. The 3rd (Leicester) Girl Guides could use knitting needles. All effective against latinos!
@7 Spain isn't a power!
@10 As it happens, I think it would be a good idea to station Challenger 2 main battle tanks and Warrior IFVs at the border. Just think how the local spanish tossers would respond to a bit of kit that has never been beaten. Something for which the American Abrams is a cheap imitation. We have a few mothballed. A new treat for viewers. Watch a Challenger 2 remove a criminal border facility. What a lovely exercise!
