The president of the Lower House, and Victory Front lawmaker Julián Domínguez affirmed that Argentina's capital should be moved to the north. It is not the first time that this kind of project is presented: when Ricardo Alfonsín was president during the 80's, he proposed to transfer the nation’s capital to Viedma, a town located in the southern province of Río Negro. “and let me remind you that the countries with great projects and ambitions do not have their capitals in ports.”
Yes, for example, Ireland, Netherlands, Denmark, Japan, Sweden and of course the UK are famously unsuccessful countries held back by the location of their capital.

....Colonies have their capitals in the ports“. So he has just stated that Argentina is/was a colony of I presume, implanted people. Surely the native Indians are the only people who can make a judgement of the location of the capital, as the implanted European population are not entitled to any acts of Self Determination, right???
I hope I have the Malvanistas Mantra correct, that is how it works isn't it, with implanted populations that don't own the land they live on?

If any provinces want their national capital to be closer to the Pacific they can easily organise it.

There's already one called Santiago. Unshackle from the losers in Buenos Aires and join the winners in Chile.

Its not where it is located that has made the gov't corrupt and nonfunctional. It is the people.
Argentinians are not smart enough for Democracy
    It has clearly failed
Military rule is their only solution.

The only problem with military rule in Argentina is that their military has proved itself to be just as incompetent, corrupt and cowardly as the civilians - 1982 for example!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Buenos Aires as the political center of the country was an idea of Julio A. Roca when he was elected President for the first time. He had to fight and defeat Carlos Tejedor (Gobernor of Buenos Aires) in the last Argentine civil war that left almost 2.000 casualties in both sides.

J.A. Roca idea was that having the Capital (and Federal Territory) in Buenos Aires would end with wars between Buenos Aires and the rest of the country. He was right.

Nowadays, there is not such a risk so the Capital Territory could be moved to a new place with more space. This will promote development and a will be the beginning of a more sensible population distribution.

Raul Alfonsin idea was the best one but, no matter that his law was passed in both Chanbers, the new Capital had never been built.

If argieland moved its capital 2,000 miles to the west, it would be where it should be in the Pacific Basin!

A capital doesn't HAVE to be a port, but I've list some perfectly good examples where it HAPPENS to be a port without ill effect. You could add Finland, Greece, Portugal and Malaysia to that list. I don't care whether Argentina moves its capital or not, that is entirely a matter for Argentina. I was merely pointing out that his justification is false. As for Spain, the capital of its most important successor state i.e. Catalonia is Barcelona, a port, while in Italy and the US, the capital is immediately adjacent to a port. In the pre-nuclear era there was an advantage to having your capital away from any potential initial point of foreign invasion, but nowadays it makes little difference.

    Brilliant idea!
Up north where it is even warmer than in Buenos Aires, so the citizens can enjoy even more black-outs with no water and no air condition.
    Brilliant idea!

Unsurprisingly this idea will fail and collapse in the midst of another economic crisis and power outages as did Alfonsin's - and of course it is somebody else's fault! no matter how stupidly the Argentine government acts, it is always somebody else's fault

@11 That is interesting. President Roca chose to run the country from his Estancia La Paz near Cordoba and rarely visited Buenos Aires. But for all the responsibility for genocide he also did a lot to unite much of Argentina, albeit with some reluctance from the provinces.

His home was a country house hotel for some time and is really beautiful so I understand why he was reluctant to leave it.

Is it possible to move the Capital City of ones country? after all they evolve into that status and are usually the premier City of ones Country.

I can think of only one previous example. Bonn too Berlin and that was a return rather than a move, under a set of rather exceptional circumstances.

Are there any examples where this as been done and worked?

In that case Mr Voice the obvious choice is Calafate for anew capital, and we know who owns all the desirable property there
But no doubt our dear isolationist Nostrils would prefer Mendoza which would be great
Think, On this subject what the hell was your pinup boy Hermes Binner blathering about on that subject? I have read various press articles on his comments but I am none the wiser.
    Care to elucidate?

Dozens of countries have moved their capitals.

But countries that have actually built a new capital from scratch? The US, Brazil, Australia and Malaysia off the top of my head. The drawback is they take decades if not centuries to develop from anything but a monumental urban planning scheme.

As ships get bigger the ports usually move from the capitals not v/v.

Only the RGs would perservere with a port so far up a shallow rio.

Didn't Guatemala move the capital from Antigua to Guatemala City? They even made it illegal for years to live in the old capital to force people to move to the new one.

It's a great way for the Argentine government to spend a ton of money on some very visible “Obras” just before election time. Lots of pork in this idea.

And. All the government elite get to live in a brand new place, work in brand new buildings and live in brand new houses. With all the trash staying back at BA, so they can get away from all of that too.

And, new electrical grid for all the government elite too. They'll all be able to live a more special, superior life style this way. Brand new infrastructure all around!! Lots and lots of pork and guess who gets to enjoy it all first!

That is why the idea is attractive to politicians and bureaucrats.

They aren't ever going to move the capital. All politicians except CFK want to live in Buenos Aires where at least there is a semblance of civilization. This is just a dream from some second-rate K burocrat.

Does anyone know Naypyidaw? It is the administrative capital of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, better known as Burma. So of course it is possible to build new capitals. This one has officially already some 900 000 inhabitants although the city is just ten years old.

the first step in planning the new capital should be to implode the “pink House” with CFK and all her cronies, in it....that would give the Argies a unique opportunity for a new start...

Sorry for those involved but as TMBOA likes to think everything involves her they could always attach her to the sub-power lines (1440V ?).

Oh, I forgot, do they have power in BsAs yet?
