Uruguayan foreign minister Luis Almagro said it should not come as a surprise if the negotiations for a trade agreement between Mercosur and the European Union does not include all four original full members and leaves one out, although the objective is for all members to be part of the accord. Jan 22nd, 2014 - 11:46 am - Link - Report abuse 0their support for Argentina is pathetic,
and Argentina should grow up,
still,
why should the EU give support to us,
they will be glad when we go.

Jan 22nd, 2014 - 01:04 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Not only do you wish for your nation to leave the EU, but you also have opinions on who the trade bloc should and shouldn't trade with.
You are all over the place mate, like yanqui with his predictions...
You two also play 1X2 and caress yourselves when proven right, don't you?
Well I did tell you this is exactly what would happen a few months ago.

Jan 22nd, 2014 - 01:55 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Sure you did, yanqui. Sure you did....
Fact is, we are all dancing to your tune, history is not being written as we speak.
It's being read out loud from the depths of your crystal ball...
I played 1X2 on the chelsea-manu game. It went in!!
I guess it's a side effect from being in the proximity of.... you.
Forget the other countries for now Uruguay, work for yourself first. Make trade agreements with the big EU countries at the same time this is going on. If we keep relying on doing things as a group we aren't going to get anywhere.

Jan 22nd, 2014 - 03:50 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Never a truer word spoken, look after yourself first, you know it makes sense.
That attitude is what left you lot in the shitter in the first place. Look at you, according to yourselves you have everything and are superior to eachother if need be, but you still can't explain that little weird feeling. Of anger, of hatred, of loneliness...
Jan 22nd, 2014 - 03:58 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@3 The EU has a longish history of demanding that those with whom it trades comply with various principle. There are various blocks to this. For example, argieland doesn't have any. Then there's human rights. Will the EU demand that the members of mercosur respect the human rights of the Falkland Islanders? The human rights of indigenous peoples? In the past, the EU has demanded improvements in the democratic process and rule of law. The EU has made demands in respect of labour standards, development policies, global governance and foreign policy. The application of EU environment, competition and intellectual property standards will apply to all mercosur countries. Their integration will be a precondition for EU access. Little mercosur will probably find that it has bitten off more than it can chew. And much more than it can digest. Just imagine. If the past is anything to go by, mercosur countries will be given 3 months to comply with EU requirements. No compliance, no access. And I would guess that mercosur will be told that ALL its members have to comply. Wonder what Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay will make of that? I hate the EU but, just for once, it might do some good!
Jan 22nd, 2014 - 03:58 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@6 Once again, Uruguay has the chance to do the right thing. In 1939, it chose democracy and freedom. And the difference between argieland and nazi Germany is what? Argieland doesn't want to lead latin and South America, it wants to rule. It's pretty incompetent but, with the resources of the whole continent, who knows? Where will its claims to Chilean territory end? How much of Paraguay will it want? There will be no Uruguay. Check out the history.

You are right,
And stevie still did not get the point.
They should not trade until they follow the rules..
@19 Thanks. No need to worry about Stevie. I understand him. I also thought I knew it all. When I was about 7. Many great men, none of them argentine, have finally realised that it's important to know what you don't know. Stevie has probably got about another 30 years to go. By then he might have reached a mental age of 20. Though I'm not sure whether that's years, months or weeks. Notice how he didn't respond to my comment? It was difficult. I'm still wondering what the FA (@17) has to do with it. Having problems separating inconsequential comments?

Just saying...
The CFK administration is not the first belligerent or fascist gov't Argentina has had. The Mujica administration is not the first lame one Uruguay's had. Nevertheless Uruguay has managed to stay out of Argentina's clutches for 150 years.

Jan 23rd, 2014 - 06:45 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Almagro revealed that Mercosur 'has moved faster than the EU', and has worked hard on reaching a tariffs concession list, which was supposed to be exchanged at the end of 2013 as agreed, but has yet to be presented.
Jan 23rd, 2014 - 07:00 pm - Link - Report abuse 0That sounds exactly as Mercosur has moved faster than the EU to get absolutely nowhere.
'Through the Mirror' also known as 'Alice in Wonderland': it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place.
The agreement between Mercosur and the European Union is obviously more important to the other three countries because of the Argentine more protectionist trade policies; however, it is extremely important that Argentina does agree to tariff negotiations for the sake of South American sovereignty and the growth of regional bonds, economically and politically.

Jan 28th, 2014 - 05:51 pm - Link - Report abuse 0You will not get a picture of what is happening in SA here.
You will only get the views on 7 desillusioned expats and their daily poison over a continent they chose to live in themselves.
SA is in the process of eliminating two things, poverty and the cause of it.
And the cause are a bit upset about it, they are used to SA being equal to a nice chunk in profit and all of the sudden people said enough.
