One in three children in Spain lives at risk of poverty, the international charity Save the Children said in a report. The charity said austerity measures and cutbacks in public spending had worsened the situation and said the number of under-18s “at risk of poverty or marginalization”, an official EU measure of various aspects of economic hardship - soared to more than 2.8 million in 2012. Since Mercopress can't be bothered with actual objectivism anylonger (1 in 3 children in Spain in poverty, then one reads ”1 in 3 at RISK of poverty...)

1 in 4 EUian and USAnian children in Poverty, 4 in 5 AMERICANS in near poverty, 50% of adult EUians in poverty.

And we were 1st world, once.

I have to agree with you on the misleading title. “At risk” of poverty is not poverty.

However, you also need to consider that definitions of poverty vary significantly. I see poverty here and in Argentina and I lived in the “poorest” inner-city areas in the EU. There is no comparison. They are different leagues of poverty. Given the choice of 1st world poverty vs 3rd world poverty I would choose 1st.

I say 3rd world, not because we are a 3rd world nation, but because the 15% who live here in poverty are remnants of the 3rd world. In Argentina it is the same (although the church estimate the level at closer to 30%).

You have that very 1st world habit of national deprication without seeing how lucky you really are.

#3 I have to agree with you. While any poverty is a human tragedy, I've been it both in Argentina and the USA. I would rather be poor here as well. One thing you do not see here is 7 year old barefoot kids on avenue's like 9 de Julio near the Oblisk, barefoot and begging at the cars stopped at lights. For those who are unaware, 9 de Julio is like a 14 lane avenue.
Also as you point out.....“facing near poverty” Tobi....since when have you started quoting FOX?

@ 2 This is an ENGLISH language forum.

What is this ? “1 in 4 EUian and USAnian children” stop pretending to be EuropEAN, you are so boring and irrelevent, I can't believe such worthy posters like Condorito even waste their time with you any more.
A true European would never quote FOX news network as a serious source..
Once more for the record dickhead...
Toby/ Narine (or what ever false persona you have today…) - I have exposed you before as a fraud and a fake. As is obvious by your silly false, 'EUian' (your word) voice in some posts, and your angry ‘anti-Anglo’ voice in others.
Your comments are worthless. Nobody respects you.
EU – ian is not a Nationality nor a Country. It is not even a recognized word!
You may have several screen-names but the intelligent, educated Posters on this forum know you as a Fool.
Your are not worthy of an informed response.
    Imbecile.
Please be quiet when the adults are speaking.

Stop trying to take away my new toy! Grrrr. I'm sure Toblerine is a perfectly legitimate shim.

Though confusing though. Here we have an article on the dire straits of EUians in the EU Province of Spain; which is exactly the meme that Toblerine has been running with lately. And instead shim deflects to the US.

Well could be worse. Should see the poverty rates in Argentina. Lucky Spanish.

Does Nostril even come close to this level of erudition? me-thinks not!
    Bless his little socks!
