An economic crisis in Argentina looks more and more likely but I can't help but feel for the ordinary Argentine - the one who just wants to provide for his family and get on with his life. It is the ordinary people who will suffer not the politicians, they will have buggered off with their ill-gotten gains.
I know some people will say - 'serve them right - they elected thes thieves' - but all the same....Argentina has only ever toyed with democracy so maybe the 'normal' Argentine is not as politically savvy as many others.
That's no excuse, of course, for their despicable attitude towards the Falkland Islanders but every country has its 'politically naive' my own included

    @5
I'm not sure that their collapse will just effect them this time, I think that some of their neighbours are going to feel the pain and I don't think that they are going to be very happy about it. The UK and the Falklands I expect will become the very least of their concerns over the next couple of years.

@5 Yes, many of us share that sentiment and have stated it here often. Very few people want to make the whole of Argentina suffer as some kind of revenge. A lot of the more extreme posts come from a position of being peed off with some of the posters claiming to represent all Argentines. They don't but that's the position they take

Most of the posters want to see the current government fail quickly and completely in the hope that Argentines get a government that will take them to a more stable and economically viable place. They undoubtedly have a country with great potential and a lot of lovely people that deserve better.

@6 There will be consequences for Uruguay and Chile but mostly Brazil. Brazil can ill-afford this at the moment when they are struggling. All emerging economies are rather precarious. Chile will survive it because they have diversified. But generally Argentina is pretty isolated economy so they will suffer the most.

@7 We will rebuild as if we were recovering from a storm.

“Hurricane Cristina swept through Argentina destroying the economy along with the livelihoods of two thirds of the country. Many will be able to rebuild, but some have suffered severe brain damage and may never fully recover. While in the process of recovery, Argentina may once again be on the road to prosperity. Back to you, Tom”

    @8 I sincerely hope so. :)

The waiting for the storm to arrive is often worse than the recovery.

How many Argentines does it take to screw in a light bulb?
Three: two to grill up meat while the other guy bribes the electrician.

“It’s clear the government there doesn’t really care how it’s viewed by world markets,” says Craig Shealy, an investment banker now working on several deals across Latin America. “But it also doesn’t fully appreciate what it’s setting its people and infrastructure up for.” New business and capital formation, he hears from sources, is drying up dramatically in and around Buenos Aires, as money flees and everyone from financiers to peddlers face prohibitive borrowing costs.

“This,” he says, “is not about the little guy vs. foreign bankers. This is about stifling the guy trying to start a food cart, for years to come.”

Every single news outlet is talking default now:

#5 I agree with you about the average Argentine. However not all Argentine's really care about acquiring the Falklands as they are more concerned about their lives and the things that actually affect them day to day.
Argentina lost the ability to make no steam and is driving the train on residual steam. They are losing U$ at the rate of 150-200 million a days and are weeks away for being outright dollarless. With winter around the corner, I can't see how they will import energy. If members in the government had any concern, they would impeach kirchner and her team, make real arrangements to pay off the debt and re-intergrate into the world. It would be better for them to do it on their own as opposed to being forced to, but it will happen one way or another.

The answer is simple for Argentines get out on the streets and start demonstrating in your millions bring Kirchner and her rats down sooner rather than later.

@5 You need to consider “reality”. You litter your comment with “ordinary Argentine”, “ordinary people ”, “'normal' Argentine”, “not as politically savvy ” and 'politically naive' . And how many times has argieland screwed up big-time and seen other countries mutter about those “examples”? So let's have a new approach. Where every argie suffers big-time for years. None of this “We blew, or stole, all the money, but we won't mention that. Let's blame the IMF”. And everyone goes along with it to protect the “ordinary” argie. How about “What's that? You can only afford one meal every 5 days? Two slices of bread and a pat of soy margarine? Did you ever try controlling your government? Kicking La Campora and Quebracho down the road? Only another 20 years to go. Maybe. You need to start by paying back ALL your debts. And we do mean PAYING. Let's call it 200 billion dollars. EVERY loan. EVERY compensation amount. EVERY penalty. EVERY judgement. NO bonds. Money. Proper money. Maybe, in 20 years, you can have TWO meals every 5 days. Then we ”might“ let you breed again. Yes, we know chopping every male's tackle off seemed a bit harsh, but none of you can be trusted. And here are the final considerations. In 20 years, we might let you have an aircraft again. Just one. In 20 years, we might let you have the ONE ship again. In 20 years, we may allow motorcycles. Maybe a car 10 years after that. Until then, stick with the oxen and carts. Maybe, in 50 years, we'll even let you govern yourselves. Subject to oversight and controls. Then we'll have a few years while we decide whether you've learned honesty and responsibility. Word of warning. One mistake and it's back to the beginning”.

Only one way to stop a serial criminal!

Blaming one individual or a group of individuals for Argentina's failure is playing the game by their rules.

How many times have we heard them blame....
    1. The IMF
    2. The Vultures
    3. Speculators
    4. Profiteers
    5. Great Britain
    6. The United States
    7. The UN
    8. Other Mercosur members
    9. Neighbouring countries
    10. Those implanted pirates

    for all of Argentina's woes?!

They NEVER blame themselves or accept responsibility for installing a bunch of thieves, crooks and imbeciles in the Casa Rosada!

It's the responsibility of virtually ALL Argentines that they are in this mess, because virtually ALL live by the creed Viveza Criolla.

The few exceptions are the Amerindians, who are marginalised, the people of the Catholic Church trying to alleviate the poverty and those who are intelligent enough to realise that they've been lied to and left the country!

Argentines are too willing to 'Pass The Buck' on blame, just as they are too willing to accept the lies that they 'own' the Falkland Islands, or that Maradona is not a fat, drug-fuelled hand balling cheat who robbed England of a World Cup final.

It's about time that Argentina accepted that the world does not owe them a living, that they have to pay their debts on time and that they cannot claim someone else's home as theirs.

They need to grow up and accept responsibility for their own actions - apologise to the people they hurt - pay compensation to those they injured - and forget any claims on land they never owned.

ck177 @ 33,38,44,47 is seriously frustrated and very entertaining.

CFK will probably make her exit very soon on “health” reasons. If things get much worse it will be too obvious that she is going because of the problems and not because of her health. Also, if things become too bad and she says she is too unhealthy to be president, they will only blame her for not going much sooner, they won't feel sorry for her. She wants to be Queen Evita II.

She will have some illness that tries to draw a lot of sympathy and drama.

    Or:

The IMF and that intellectual giant C. La Garde will bail out the Argentine economy due to the recent “very significant and real” corrections made to the INDEC calculations. The IMF will do this to show the whole world how “humanitarian” they are. Then, only a bit later, the Argentine economy will implode anyway, and even worse. And the whole Latin American community will blame the IMF for the whole disaster, and any other problems in all of Latin America.

    And the cycle continues.

The K government is really furious about this. The question is what were the K expecting really and the next question is why on earth the Americans don't choose their ambassadors more discretely behind doors.

Nemet said Argentina is still an ally, lol some years ago Timmerman hijacked a US military plane and confiscated its belonings ... Obama foreign policy seems to me that it tries to hard to get on well with everybody and be friends with god and the devil officially but always end up being exposed and ridiculed as phony and backstabbers. The Russians have humiliated them yet again by leaking Victoria Nuland's phone call arranging with the ambassador in Ukraine a broker with the opposition to fix in a new government and quoting “F_ck the EU”. 64. It depends if we withdraw our bases there. Our military equipment is better but it costs more. Who knows and in the end it doesn't matter. The Saudis are not good allies and we don't need anything from them any longer.
I wouldn't be surprised if we don't confiscate all their assets here as reparations for their terrorism funding once we are completely energy independent.

Obama is much like CFK. She handed the US a Marxist La Campora protegee in Cecilia Nahon and he returns the favor by appointing a lackey. Both leaders are incredibly disrespectful of other countries. Obama's ambassadorial pick for Norway had never been there, his pick for China admits he's knows little of the place, but they are all good at raising money for the democrats. Real professionals that understand the country are passed over for political patronage. Sad state of affairs in both capitols.

Interesting that you say that about France. Their national debt gets worse by the day, but not as bad as Spain's.

The EU is in a real pickle at the moment. It's a case of the Emperor's new clothes. They don't want to admit that they have a problem (that they are naked) because to do so would scare the public and lead to a run on the banks and yet another banking collapse.

Rather than hand over German tax-payers savings, Der Fuhrer (Merkin!) has been allowing the Greeks, Italians, Spanish and French to print as much as they need, devaluing the currency as they go. Of course, sooner or later some are bound to spot that the Euro isn't worth what it was some time ago.

The French are petrified that the British will leave, as the Germans would probably head for the exit at the same time to avoid picking up the tab for the EU-SSR!

On the other hand, Hollande is adamant that there will be no re-negotiation of the British position, stating that the veto will be used if Cameron brings it up.

Lucky for Cameron that his Referendum Bill was shot down in the House of Lords, because otherwise he would have been committed to holding it in 2017 and Britain would be out right away.

As it is, he'll probably have to concede that we will pull out, merely to stop the right wing of his party rebelling if he wins the next election. If he loses, it won't be his problem (he'll be fired), but I doubt that Labour will be elected considering they caused the financial mess in the first place!

Still, our problems, as minor as they may seem, will be nothing like the catastrophe about to hit Argentina.

I suspect that with the sewage backed up, the lack of air-conditioning and the pollution, the Uruguayans will soon be able to smell the foul stench from Buenos Aires.

Unless the military take over soon, conditions will get so bad, you'd think that God was visiting the Ten Plagues on the Argentines and their Pharaoh.

That rain took out a hell of a lot of electricity. I really can't understand why for the life of me they have not tweaked their infrastructure, in this case “storm drainage”. I've only seen flooding like that in the US from winter thaw and that's along river banks, hurricanes and the spring along the Mississippi.

yankke with the reserves now firmly held in that draining vortex and winter around the corner, you would think they would start buying heating oil now before there is no reserves left. After all, they are C.O.D. customers.....cash and carry. When the winter brings shorter days and longer nights.......more electricity will be needed as well. If they have porcelain tubs...they can always start gathering wood.

Cap, I think most of their electricity is generated with LNG and they don't have enough storage. Plus they have never pre-planned for anything. Why bother when you can blame someone else?
There are serious issues in BA with the sewers. The gov't has allowed lots of new buildings to be built over the last 10 years and didn't upgrade the sewers to accommodate all the new dwellings. There are parts of BA where there are constants backups so the sewer water is running openly into the streets! And this isn't in the slums that's a whole different problem.
They have squandered all their U$ buying cheap gas and electricity for people.
That is why I keep saying they will look more like Bolivia than the USA in the next generation.

On another note I would like to add to the 'faggot' discussion as I always knew this word to refer to a a foodstuff, not a bunch of fire-lighting sticks...
Faggots are a traditional dish in the UK, especially South and Mid Wales and the Midlands of England. It is made from meat off-cuts and offal, especially pork. A faggot is traditionally made from pig's heart, liver and fatty belly meat or bacon minced together, with herbs added for flavouring and sometimes bread crumbs.
... So, a bit like the recipe for Haggis, but meatballs instead! Delicious!

@106, ck177 , when you talk about “If the USA cannot pay the 17 trillon DEBT means Argentina like many other countries is having low revenues and unable to pay their loans”, you just prove what an asshole you are....the US$ 17 trillion debt is INTERNAL debt.......not FOREIGN...or maybe someone needs to explain it to you ??
And by your #122, 124, you've given yourself away...you are an Argie Troll, scrounging a living in Sao Paulo...and BTW, Sao Paulo is not 5,000 miles from Buenos Aires....more like 2,000...so why dont you fuck off back to Argieland ?? We don't need another homeless beggar roaming our streets.

#122 Sussie $6,000 will buy 4 roundtrip tickets. How many in-laws do I have in Argentina? As for the father amd mother in law, what makes you think they are not here dimwit?

    Sussie needs a new lobotomy.

Jack don't bother explaining to sussie that 5.5trillion is foreign owned and the remainder domestically owed to ourselves.

Sussie, are you off to get that new lobotomy you so desperately need? You add nothing but laughs here. And yes......we are not laughing with you we are laughing at you.

    @ 16o Jack Ass

According to the internet 47% of the 17 trillons debt is owed to foreign creditors

At best, Sussie is working the drag queen show at Snr. Frog's in PV, Mexico.

I think he's done too many amyl nitrate “poppers” between dances, before texting.

I got your message - Sussie sure does need a new lobotomy !!

Sorry to take so long to get back to you!

    “Donkey Delight”!!

Yep, the way Sussie is braying away on here, it's fitting.

BTW, is the 'he' doing the donkey, or is he getting it from the donkey??

Whatever, I expect its 5 shows a day!

    @118 Anglotino - heehe! a little mis-communiction!

I meant I preferred the English food-stuff over the Aussie 'bundle of stick for firelighting' type of faggots! Not that you took offense anyway, but I just thought I would clear that up!

Like you, I don't see how any form of sexuality can be used as an insult in the 21st Century. I notice the trolls use it when they run out of ideas (normally very quickly).

PS: do you think ck177 is really ron_57? Haven't heard from him much since I brutally exposed him as a fake.....

“ do you think ck177 is really ron_57? Haven't heard from him much since I brutally exposed him as a fake..... ”

Yes, he most definitely is the same - previously known as “Sussie”, the TRoll posing as a woman , but anally obsessed.

“Sussie” was here a year ago, and would say the same nonsensical gibberish under several aliases a day.

Feel free to kick him one, but he is fine just being ignored. :-)

    No offence at all mate.

As for Ron or ck, her name is Sussie and she has had more names on here than I have had hot lunches.

It is extremely funny that she talks about British posters with 27,000 different names.

Probably ranked as one of the least effective posters on here. But every court needs a jester.

Troy remember the names sussie used last year? It when through dozens of names with us and rg in it. They never lasted long because almost all of the posts were removed by editor.

I really wish this sight would post locations next to SN's. I would love to know where that one is from. sussie always claimed the USA like fido dido.

l did say it some time ago, but will repeat for the benefit of any new posters.
IMO, Sussie, is probably not quite right in the head & the Argentine Secret Service just wind her/him up to just see what damage he/she can do.
She very rarely comes out with any malvinista rubbish, just silly things like no shopping malls(must be a woman!), good restaurants, clothing shops etc etc.
She probably gets a kick out of her ravings being answered.
l honestly don't think that she is completely sane(no insult intended).
l also, answer her occasionally, but really we should just ignore her as she does us no real damage.

@128, ck177, get your numbers correct...seems you gotta google all your information....
And, just fyi, I heard that the “Rincon de Buenos Aires” closed down 2 years ago, so if you intend going there now, you'll most definitely be eating out of the garbage dumpster......then, while you're there, I suggest you roll over and take a nap in it, just to guarantee your suite for the night, before the other beggars beat you to it...poor Troll...

I agree, she/he is 'not right in the head', and I really think she/he has medication or substance abuse problems.

However, there have been one or perhaps two direct responses from Sussie that startled me, they were so clear and well composed.
I suspect that much of this is an act.

Sussie is surely a narcissist, but I really think Sussie is not a woman. He may fantasize about being one, or maybe wrestles with a sexual identity issue he is ashamed of, I don't know.
However, all his talk of men's “arseholes” and penis's pointing at men's arsehole, anal rape, etc. - lead me to doubt he is a woman.

Funny that he talks of “British rubbish” and “arseholes”. I really think he knows little about US slang and is more aquainted with the British.

I am sure he doesn't live in the USA. Besides trying for a bit more credibility in his posts, I think the main motivation is to impress other South Anericans.

“Sussie” might just turn out to be “Think” after a few Pisco Sours

    @140 Troy Tempest,
Yes you may well be right.
After l had posted l thought about the sometimes, clear & well composed responses that you mention & decided that there could well be other people involved, all posting under the same id.
Hard to say what sex it is, really.
l now, imagine a crazy drooling idiot, slobbering over the keyboard, gibbering about British arses, while other trolls are trying to push it aside to post the clearer responses that you & l noticed.
    lol!
Oh the life of a troll,
    Hope its well paid!

Ha Ha, I don't think I want to visualise Sussie.

Still not sure if he is just one very twisted drug-addled individual, with occasional periods of lucidity, or just some harrying fire from the Trolls to make us duck our heads.

Troy....maybe he/she is tied into that old namae that has not been around in a while.....piratehunter. That was another screwball poster that wanted to nuke everyone and had sexual hangups as well. He was suppose to be from Canada.....and disappeared. Maybe the Canadian Immigrations caught up with him.....lol.
