Foreign Office Minister Hugo Swire message to the Falkland Islands

Saturday, February 8th 2014 - 09:00 UTC
Full article 212 comments

I am honoured to hold Ministerial responsibility for the Falkland Islands, which has a very special place in the British consciousness and in British history. And next week I am finally able, for the first time, to come down to see the Islands and their people for myself. I could not be looking forward to it more. Read full article

.....despite noises from over the water, the future of the Falklands looks increasingly bright“

Too right it is. I think that you will find that the ”noises from over the water“ will be the sound of people saying ”How can I afford to eat“ and ”Who has stolen my TV”

But the Islanders?? They will keep going from strength to strength!! Long may that continue.

Cmdr Sarah West will shorty be paying you a visit, just to reassure you that all is well. So for now, we will leave you in her more-than-capable hands!!!

Keep doing what your doing Falklands Islanders!!!

“If the Government of Argentina believes that hostile rhetoric and threats against the livelihoods of the Falkland Islands people will pressure the UK into negotiating the sovereignty of the Falklands – above the heads of the people whose home it is – then it is sorely mistaken.”

Ouch that's not beating around the bush. Argentina thinks that because it acts like a child having a tantrum in a supermarket; that it will eventually wear down and get a lolly.

Sorry to break it to 40 million Argentineans but no lolly for you.

“ But such meetings cannot, should not, and will not exclude the Falkland Islands Government, who must be party to any discussions affecting their future. Argentina should welcome this opportunity, rather than spurn it.”

But like the idiots they are the Argentines will keep their heads buried up their asses, and rather than accept international law and' get their own back' for the fact they cannot colonise the Islands they can at least pretend to be friendly and get some money out of the Islands by supplying them.

At the moment by being openly hostile towards the Islands, Agentina are gaining jack squit except getting support for their imperialism from a bunch of no hoper countries that if asked to help invade the Falklands would instead sh!t themselves.

And the Malvanistas on these posts are stupid enough to believe that in an increasingly shrinking world that the Islanders are isolated, because they are 8000 from the UK!

Wake up Sour Grapistas- the internet and air travel has eliminated that :-)

They have been living alongside a British overseas territory for 300 years, they know we are not a nation that gives in to threats and bullying and are more than willing to defend ourselves and our territories and go to war if necessary. Yet Argentina still doesn't seem to get it and thinks that continually shouting and stamping their feet will achieve their misguided goal. When will the penny drop with them?

@8 Unfortunately, in your blind, deaf, mindless and brainless state, you cannot see the obvious. It is the OWNERS that are speaking. There are a little more than 63 million of us. That means that when WE speak, YOU listen. Wonder why argieland pisses itself when just FOUR combat aircraft turn up? It also pisses itself when a brand-new DESTROYER turns up. Could it be because it's called a DESTROYER? Could it be because it DESTROYS? And it truly shits itself when ONE man turns up to fly a bright YELLOW helicopter.

And yes, BIG MOUTH, it if becomes necessary we WILL beat the shit out of them. Argies SHOULD accustom themselves to the idea of unfriendly things falling out of the sky overhead.

Then perhaps they can accustom themselves to the idea that certain South Atlantic islands belong to Britain, not them. And there's not a thing the slugs can do about it!

So let me be clear and unambiguous: if the Government of Argentina believes that hostile rhetoric and threats against the livelihoods of the Falkland Islands people will pressure the UK into negotiating the sovereignty of the Falklands – above the heads of the people whose home it is – then it is sorely mistaken.

    Seems clear enough to me.

Need a new method Argentina...perhaps the obvious, but only method you've never tried....probably not though

Hugo Swire MP is hardly a squatter. Educated at Eton, St Andrews University (founded 1415) and Sandhurst. His father-in-law is John Nott: the Secretary of State for defence during the Falklands war. He is also related to Joe Strummer, the musician who funded the seminal rock band the Clash.

In any event the law of adverse possession would mean the islands belong to the Falklanders anyway. This would be particularly true for the decades of the 1860’s onwards when Argentina seemed to have forgotten about the islands by making no reference t them for 30 years or more. .

The Minister of State makes a number of fair and reasonable points. It really isn’t very edifying for a nation of 40 million to threaten and bully an island community of 3,000. There are many issues from tourist development, fish stocks management, environmental protection, shared exploration of hydro-carbon resources which the Argentine and Falklands Governments should be talking about together in a spirit of friendship and good neighbourliness.

The Argentine government unfortunately prefers to play to the gallery with juvenile speeches in front of their supporters rather than act in a mature and dignified manner.

For some political leaders (Castro, Mussolini, Kirchner and Timerman come to mind) making speeches is politics; a substitute for mature policy making.

When are you going to actually make a comment on the article?

    @29 Vestige

That is your opinion. Your opinion is not fact. Never mind, soon we won't be hearing from you again, once the money has ran out, and your country can't afford to keep the lights on. No power, means no internet...never mind, you'll be too busy looking for food by then. That is if you actually live in Argentina, that is.

As for the Falkland Islanders, it's obvious that you are green with envy at their well managed country, and impotent because you know that you will never get the Falklands.

Argentina, the could've been but never was country, that's about to implode. It's going to hurt more this time, though Vestige, because your wonderful government has been stealing YOUR money for the last decade.

And when Argentina as finally disappeared up it's own arse, and your Latin American 'brothers' are picking over the rotting remains, the Falkland Islanders will be going from strength to strength.

And just think. If Argentina had been a well run and managed country, with little corruption, willing to abide by the rule of law, both international and national, then who knows, the Islanders might've actually been willing to become a part of Argentina.

But it's too late for that now. Your corrupt, badly run and impotent country is finished, rapidly going the way of the dinosaur...into extinction.

I rather think it was obvious I was replying in a general sense. The point still stands, the Minister was making some very reasonable points regarding Argentina’s hostile and non-constructive attitude towards the people of the Falklands.

There is of course much to admire about the Falklands. They are the oldest democracy in South America by far. They have lived under the rule of law for 180 years. They have the highest standard of living in South America. There is no crime, drug problems, slums, unemployment or political corruption. Nearly the entire population own their own home and drives a Range Rover.

They have hosted regional meetings of the Commonwealth parliamentary association. They have been members of the Universal Postal Union since 1874. They send representative sports teams to both the Commonwealth games and the island games association. They are an associate member of the EU and are entitled to, and have received infrastructure development funds.

It seems self-evident that a more constructive and friendly attitude of the part of the Argentine government would be of benefit to both parties.

...just under 50% own their own homes in the Falklands...info available on the Govt..census...
    ..also..
Falkland Islands Holdings owns most of the Falklands.....

Retail & Distribution: several outlets in Stanley and Mount Pleasant including a supermarket (featuring supplies from Waitrose), a gift shop, a home entertainment shop, a homecare centre, an office supplier, a building supplies company and a clothes shop. This division accounts for about two-thirds of FIC's turnover.
Darwin Shipping: the main shipping link between the Falkland Islands and the United Kingdom. FIC can also arrange coastal shipping and shipping to Chile, which is the nearest country to the Falklands excluding Argentina.
Port services: cargo handling, warehousing, refuelling and maintenance.
Automotive agency: a Land Rover dealership, a Caterpillar agency, and boat maintenance.
Property: FIC owns residential property for let, as well as commercial units and development land.
Insurance: a general insurance agency and a Lloyd's agency.

The head office is in Bishop's Stortford in England.

This crisis in Argentina seems to be leading to a lot of desperation from posters wanting to get their opinion in while Argentina still has the communications infrastructure in place. I hope the British Immigration Minister gets to see this as it will hopefully persuade him/her not to start accepting Argentine refugees once the country collapses. No one wants to see bloodshed on the streets of Argentina but the policies adopted by the government which has successfully hidden and delayed the crisis coming to a head has only worsened the eventual outcome.

Please stop criticising Argentina everyone , instead pray.

Pray for the Argentines that they won't die horrifically when their country collapses.
And Pray they they don't end up bringing their own brand of idiocy to Britain when the refugees start leaving the country.

Pray for Argentina everyone, they don't deserve our help but the least we can do is give them our prayers. Amen.

Not bad for a community of only 3,000 people. Would they be better off living under Argentine rule? I think not. They would be ruled from Tierra Del Fuego, one of the most corrupt provincial Governments in Argentina.

May I politely suggest you take a look at:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVyXKQFLjbY

(Drive through Stanley, Falkland Islands from west to east)

Very obviously Port Stanley is made up of neat detached houses, with every passing car a Range Rover. It looks a pleasant and prosperous little country town, very reminiscent of the Scottish islands.

It’s understandable that the community wish to continue to run their own affairs, as they are entitled to under the UN charter. They don’t want their prosperity and way of life destroyed by Argentina.

Poundland? I loath Poundland. Lowers the whole neighbourhood. It's when you get the stuff home that you find out why it only costs a pound. I'm more a John Lewis, Waitrose and Cafe Nero man myself. Tastes differ of course. Having grown up in South West London I've also inherited a preference for Sainsburys over Tescos.

    or

b/ You really, really, REALLY don't understand people.

Haha the results often shown on these threads is you try and trash Scotland or wherever I say I am....it's so funny...and kind of pathetic...;-)))“

You flatter yourself too much, as usual.
UK posters concerns about the validity of the SNP's case for independence, are irrelevant to what they feel about you.

As you well know, the conflict arises when you make anti-English and/or scathing remarks about UK unity.

How does one assess your 'opinions' and denouncements, when one has no idea of your self-interest or stake in the outcome.

A non-Brit or someone affiliated or sympathetic to, a foreign government or political group, would have perhaps hostile motives for their opinions.

On the other hand, a poster who is a resident and true citizen of the UK, Scottish or otherwise, would have much more credibility, even if their posts are unpopular with other ”UKsians”.

YOU, however, are evasive as to your residence and nationality.

    Ergo,

    Your opinion is irrelevant.

Your 'opinion' on the Falklands is the same, as you don't state whether you are an Islander, from the UK, or an Argentinian, or anything.

You are an irrelevant Troll, nothing more.

”It is a pity that the Government of Argentina continues to close its ears to this message, and that it seeks to deny your fundamental right to determine your own future. It is shameful that they should make threats against those involved in legitimate economic enterprise or try to harm those seeking mutual trade and prosperity with the Falklands’ neighbours. A nation of some forty million pressuring a community of three thousand in the twenty first century is not an edifying sight.“ - Hugo Swire

    Who looks silly and little?
In any case even if they started of as squatters (and they didn't), after 180 years of continuous occupation, they are not called squatters any more, they are called OWNERS!

As usual the inadequate trolls are taking everything 'off topic'
    The facts remain invioable-
as Mr Swires says; “ The British Government will abide by our responsibilities under the UN Charter to respect your right of self determination. Argentina may continue to choose to ignore the views of the Falkland Islanders, but it is a policy doomed to failure.”

and ; “For despite noises from over the water...” hahaha! for that is all they are, noises.. scwearming and a ' shwouting and foot-stamping. Silly fools.
Just give up now before you embarrass yourselves further.
Soon Argentina will be running for help from us.

Also, there is strong popular pressure in the UK to stop AID to Argentina. Yes, the UK gives Aid to Argentina, so such the hell up or your Masters may take away the the 'freebies' that you rely upon.
That you don't deserve. You should be respectful to those that have the free vote to help you. Be grateful Argentines!
    Or as YankeeBoy might say;

So you claim to be English and Think helpfully “confirmed” the fact. The real question is why on an Internet Discussion Forum you don't just use a single log-in and argue your case on its own merits. Do you not realise how daft this makes you look? I have asked twice in the last week whether your use of sock puppets is ironic and intended with humour or whether you genuinely want to create the impression that several posters are backing up your views?

What you did kindly answer was your considered response to the offer of talks and where the minister could stick them. So is that definitely it then, no more demands for talks, we're all sorted - Yes?

So “A_Voice” is a Scot educated in England but who is concerned about the UK's spending on its OTs? However, any overlap between A-Voice's and Think's views on the FIs (and indeed the timing of their posts) is entirely coincidental? And the superior knowledge of English idioms and colloquialisms that you boast of was only possible as a “Scot” because of your English education and nothing to do with the fact that we watch almost identical telly, travel freely and frequently between the constituent parts of the UK and most of us work with people from all over the UK and beyond. Don't you see Think that it's the little things that will always trip you up. The big facts you can Google, but the core authenticity will never be there. I'm also still wondering about whether you consider the Falklands referendum to have been free and fair? You were surprisingly Johnny-on-the-spot with your concerns about the observers but you never actually answered about the vote itself. Do you believe it was free and fair?

    (138) Redrow …. A little story...:

When I started posting here, the place was awash with Anglos posing as angering Argentineans...

    Lines like...:
“I'm an arjentine citizen and I’m truly ashamed about the treatment we give the Falkland Islanders….”
    Or…:
“I'm an argentunian historian and I can assure you that argentona has no claim whatsoever over Los Malwines…”
    Or...:
“I'm an argentinio living in urigay and I wish the Islanders a Felix Ano Nuovou…”
    Were commonplace…..

I began asking those “arjentines”, “argentunians” & “argentinions” to drop me a couple of lines in Spanish……. Just to check, you know….
Needless to say….., most didn’t make it through that “needles eye”. (One did though, and I duly apologiz(s)ed for doubting him)

We have since been happily free of those kind of Tturnips… (Well…, not entirely…, there is currently one calling himself “El Diego”… but he’s harmless)

What I'm trying to get at with the above story is...:
How in Earth is it possible that a native English speaker can’t distinguish between my primitive command of the English language with my recurrent grammatical errors and Latinisms (clearly shown through hundreds of posts) and the impeccable Queens English posters like A_Voice and Doveroverdover utiliz(s)e?

If you were only copying the behaviour you had already witnessed then that at least goes some way to explain it. However, it still looks silly and desperate just as it would look ridiculous if i pretended to be Argentine.
As for your question: why can you read Captcha codes when a machine can't, why do the Police know when criminals lie or poker players know when to fold? None of these things happen with certainty and yet all of them happen more successfully than just by chance. Your A_Voice character simply doesn't read like a British person, Scot or otherwise - even how he claimed i had to Google to find out about the Old Firm. Every Monday morning the BBC sports round-up includes Celtic as they will have been the biggest game outside of England that weekend. It's just how it is. He would just know that if he was here.

Sock master Think is lying, straight out.

His Dim Doddering DoveoverDover persona was rumbled finally after Think got too clever, and in his arrogance, a bit lazy.
His character was run to ground as a phoney, and Think eventually admitted that he was his sock.
He had a good face-saving chuckle about it, too.

Another Sock was revealed when muddled old Think confused his personas log-ins and “Surfer”(an Argentinian 'sleeper Troll' disguised as an unspecified “Brit-type”) was exposed.

Those are 2 Socks, supposedly Brits, revealed to be creations of Think.
How many more there are, who can say?

We know Think has a very good command of the English language. He was obviously taught properly.
However, it is easy for him to dissemble as persona “Think” and write casually in the vernacular and pepper his sentences with Spanish constructs or common grammatical errors - he is aware he is doing it.

This contrasts his Socks - DoD, a laughably dated fabrication/caricature of a retired RN officer walking the cliffs of Dover daily, with wife and dogs. It was hard to fault his English, though his military terms tripped him up.

Interestingly, persona DoD had an extensive knowledge of British popular culture, denied he was “English”, and implied, if not stated, that he was Scottish.
DoD was constantly complaining that “his” tax money was being misspent to support the anachronistic and ungrateful Falklanders.

Does this sound very similar to the persona of “A_Voice”, a character who appeared only days after DoD imploded??

“A_voice” appeared, seemly already well acquainted with each of us real UK/US posters, engaging in the same arguments as DoD.
However, this time, Think tried to eliminate the Achilles Heel of too much character background that could trip him up.
In fact, Think could not resist continuing to antagonise the US/Brits by playing the same character guessing games that he played as DoD.

This forum is Think's source of entertainment and attention.

@14 Oh dear, how little you know. You should quit judging everyone by yourself. Do try to understand. You couldn't beat the shit out of a flannel. Here's the deal. First wave. A rolling bombardment of 200 submarine-launched cruise missiles. Second wave. Same again. Third wave. Same again. You get the idea. It goes on for a week. Then the 1st Armoured Division lands over what used to be Buenos Aires. 407 (best in the world and undefeated) main battle tanks, 683 infantry fighting vehicles and light tanks, 998 armoured personnel carriers, 200 howitzers, 50 guided missile artillery, 250 SAM systems, naval artillery, 400 combat aircraft, 60 Apache attack helicopters, 70 Lynx. Beginning to get the picture? I nearly forgot. Rules of Engagement. Destroy and kill. And way, way back, nuclear missiles. 64 missiles. 640 100-kiloton warheads. Who will be smeared shit? And, just to mention, the USA has no capability to stop the UK firing its missiles. No veto. No “permission”. Could the U.S. “take out” our missile subs? Not a chance. Of the two, the RN is better than the USN. Want to talk about “meat”? When we decide, you're dead meat. You are a funny little girlie!
@29 You mean there are actually 6,000?

Expecting another £30,000 pay-out soon. Bringing in a landscaper for a couple of thousand pounds-worth of work. May go on a cruise this year. Just sorting out a few microwaves to buy. Kitchen, bedroom, sun lounge.

    However.......:
As a “Peoples Referendum for Self Determination” it was a Futile, Fruitless, False, Forged, Fictitious, Faked, Fabricated & Fictional British exercise, implemented with superb British haughtiness and disrespect for all the principles that the United Nations has, painstakingly, created to defend True Peoples Rights...

    Think
When drawing a sectarian analogy, green and white is ambiguous. In very recent years N.Ireland has fielded two Celtic players and four Rangers players. The “green and white army” are N.Ireland while the “green brigade” is a militant subset of Celtic supporters. It's not a problem that you don't know this, why would you? But just because i didn't explicitly mention Celtic in the first two posts doesn't mean i didn't understand your obvious comment, it was simply so obvious to not require comment. I merely pointed out that your sock puppet had used an ambiguous phrase. Why would i have considered it ambiguous if i thought it only meant N.ireland?

If “A_Voice” is indeed, a seperate individual, autonomous, “tax-paying, Referendum Vote eligible, resident of Scotland”,

WHY IS HE AFRAID TO GIVE HIS OPINION?

...instead of having “Think” do it for him??

Again, the “A_voice” persona has backed down.

    Credibility? - FAIL

    @152 Think
Excellent! So if you agree it was free and fair then why all the fuss about the observers? The FIG conducted a free and fair referendum, the islanders expressed their self-determination while outside observers looked on and confirmed what you also accept to be the case. Good stuff.

    @154 Think/Voice
I thought your English was supposed to be better when posting as A_Voice!
Do you not see though that your comment in 152 carries more weight as it is your sincerely held view and can therefore be honestly debated. Whereas in contrast your “English-educated” sock puppet can't now even indicate his nationality. He is concerned for the UK tax-payer but not willing to say whether he is british or not - that makes no sense. So why not just stick to Think and simply debate the ideas based on their relative merits.

At the risk of repeating MYSELF, the only invading squatters in the Falklands were the heavily armed Argentinian contingent who arrived un-welcomed in 1982.

Despite protests from the LEGAL inhabitants for these usurpers to go back to ARGENTINA they refused and kept the inhabitants as hostages.

The UK then had to forcibly remove these squatters back to the S.American mainland.

So, the legal inhabitants of the islands decided to have a referendum to show the world what the felt about their future. They could have said NO if they had wished. What is your problem with this ?
It reflected the best principles of the UN by allowing the people who live and own the island to show their feelings on the matter, DESPITE the interference of an arrogant, self absorbed, despicable, bullying, colonial, mendacious and morally bankrupt Argentina.
I could elaborate if you so wish but we are only allowed 2000 characters.

    “Pass” - well, just barely.

Certainly, you couldn't have it said that “Think speaks for ”A_Voice“.

That was still kinda squishy, wishy-washy.

” For Brits, By Brits, about a Brit Oversea Territory and organised by Commonwealth Brits... ”

    For Brits ?
    - nope, for Falklanders, for Argentina, for CELAC, for G-20, for EU, for the rest of the World, for the UN C-24

    Organised by Commonwealth Brits?
    - who else is going to organise and pay for, a Referendum in a British Overseas Territory, Argentina, the C-24 ??

Nope, they were scared sh!tless of the credibility and legitimacy such a vote would afford the people of the Islands.
It should be emphasized here that the Observers were International and objective - but you have already agreed to that.

Very telling that you have trouble with objectivity, yourself, and feel you need to waffle.

To remain an Overseas Territory of the United Kingdom
    Message to the world
    The Falkland Islands’ people exist.
They have a voice, and must be listened to,
Argentina continues to close its ears to this message,

It is shameful that they should make threats
A nation of some forty million pressuring a community of three thousand in the twenty first century
The Islands are in an excellent state,
    And defended by the British,

    Need we say any more…

@ 89, Mr. Thick, as expected, in your anxiety to rush to the defense of your role model, Voicey, you were referring to EscocesDoido's remark that he was getting a “Permanent Visa for Brasil, because I have children there”.....So, no reason to call the dish “Brazilian Feijoada”...so it's obvious it was Brazilian...Anyway, the Feijoada you get in Portugal does not have all the same ingredients as the one you eat in Brazil and, has some different ones...to start with, the beans. And, as you always call people “Turnip”, I'm starting to “Think” you have a fixation with turnips...maybe YOUR feijoada has turnip in it, but instead of chewing it, you “suck” on it...
Then, in yr #84, in a rather feeble attempt to show how smart you are, you carry on showing your ignorance....just read on :“”Same way as one would diferentiate a Scotch whisky, an Irish whisky, a Japanese whisky and, last but noy least, those excellent new German Single Malts..“” ....Scotch Whisky ?? again, redundant, “Scotch” says it all ; Irish Whisky ?? the Irish Whisky is spelled “whiskEy”.
Japanese whisky ? not at all familiar with it, but can't be much good, because when I lived in Tokyo, never saw any of my Japanese colleagues drink it, only Chivas and Johnny Walker...

Reading through this thread it only reinforces to my mind the type of person that Think & his new sidekick are.
l originally recognised Think for being a very slippery individual.
l have no reason to change that.
A very slippery, elusive, lying person.
But seemingly not as intelligent as l had first thought.
    That is a pity.
He just ignores all the evidence about the Falklands because it doesn't fit with his anti-English convictions.
lt oozes out in every post from him.
Think will ALWAYS side with England's enemy, no matter who they are or what reasons they have.
“my enemy's enemy is my friend” syndrome
Just like past American friendship with ANYONE who was opposed to communism.
How you must hate us so, my dear Think.
Well one effect on me is to make me more determined than ever to resist you.

Think hates the English (as did DoD, as does A_Voice), but he luuuvvvvsss ATTENTION!

I'm sure it's the only reason he is here.

A former Anglophile, I'm sure he has been rejected somewhere along the line as “not the genuine article”.
A bit of a blow to the Think ego.

Now, he is consumed trying to prove himself worthy, trying to show he is “smarter” - ironically, wanting approval from us.

So sad, as elaborate as his charades are, we have seen through them, mostly due to his own arrogance and his need to impress or get our attention.

I think you're right, he has no real interest in the subject at hand.

Did you notice though, he does want to know personal details, our wealth, our nationalities, our race or ethnicity??

    ThinkVoice is a materialist.
    - His lifestyle is better than ours
    - his Single Malt is better than someone else's Vodka or Scotch, or Rum
    - his fishing rod
    - his bagpipes
    - his motorcycles
    - DoD's new “Disco”
    - his noble Russian “collector watch”
    - “Rolex's are for losers - I aspire to a Philippe Patek”
    - “ I have an appreciation for superb cuisine and the finer things in life that Turnips cannot understand”
    - etc. yawn etc.

In short, he's a snob with a massive inferiority complex.

His anger and frustration is made obvious by his misogyny and callousness.

Ironically - he is nothing without our approval,

    AND WE'RE LAUGHING AT HIM.

    “ Analtino”

Woot! A good play on my name. As a gay man I'm laughing all the harder. You hereby have permission to continue using this.

So I am officially now known as Anglotino/Anglolatino/Analtino. I feel so special. I knew you would eventually bow to the pressure to alter my actual name.

    “I was making a point...”

    Doubtful!

“...and couldn't be bothered using the term I had previously used...British Commonwealth...shortened to Commonwealth. Commonwealth Brits...”

Now that doesn't sound like the pedantic Still boring A_Voice who will argue about the usage or origin of a single word in some town in Scotland. Or the person that will know to the minute how long it takes to drive somewhere.

The Commonwealth has not been know as the British Commonwealth since 28 April 1949 with the London Declaration. So after 65 years I don't think you would anyone (especially someone as pedantic as you) still calling the British Commonwealth unless attempting to poorly besmirch something.

So saying you are shortening something to the Commonwealth makes no sense as that is pretty much known by its shortened name anyway.

    “Commonwealth Brits...”

Differ from Brits how? So much for shortening, you are just typing extraneous words for no reason. So what you really wanted to say was 'Brits'. But chose not to.

“good enough.....Ruled by the unelected Queen....bow boy bow...”

I had been led to believe that you also are ruled by the same unelected Queen as you live in Scotland. I'm sorry are you not ruled by Elizabeth II?

What is funny, is that your recent posts have taken an extremely familiar turn. You are not the first person on these fora to belittle me for living in a constitutional monarchy, just the first person that doesn't claim allegience to a South American country.

The Falklands are in South America and should be made welcome by every South American country. The language the islanders speak, what side of the road they drive on and the country or countries they are associated with is none of our business. Long live the freedom of the islands, confusion to those who wish to bully and steal from them. Actually the gov't of the biggest bully is already extremely confused and I suspect that many inhabitants are too.

@152 Only one problem with your comment, Twinky. We have to read it.
@158 Really? This may come as a surprise to you but all elections and referendums in the UK are paid for by Britain.
@159 Another “feature” worth remembering. Argieland likes quoting absolute “reams” of non-binding UN waffle. But when it came to a BINDING UN Security Council resolution to put down their weapons and leave the Islands, it was ignored. Strange that.
@165, 167 What is your problem? Turnips are lovely. They go well with parsnips. And roast potatoes. And marrowfat peas. And carrots. And gravy and good British beef. Or British lamb. Or British pork.

Faggots, on the other hand, are a different matter.....
And @171 there's another one. I think there are clues here. Rabid anti-English. Refuses to reveal nationality because he's, quite rightly, ashamed of it. Big mouth and fond of own “Voice”. No appreciation for “silence”. Provincial. Seems obvious.
@173 I think you over-egged it. Once you mentioned “slippery” and “ooze”, I had a very clear mental picture of Twinky. The only thing you failed to mention was “tissues”.
@175 Twinky now pretending to be Japanese.
@177 Remember when he was riding his stallion?/mare? around his estate. Strange way to describe riding the goat/sheep round the back garden. Before persuading it to shag him. Aren't there laws against animal cruelty?
@184 Actually, the Falkland Islands aren't in South America. Are Trinidad and Tobago in South America? No, they are in the Caribbean. Grenada? Also in the Caribbean. Aruba? Caribbean. Panama? That's CENTRAL America. I'll leave others to research the distances between South America and the various islands. The Falkland Islands are in the SOUTH ATLANTIC.

As to the specific question re: 186 A_Voice “show me the British claim to East Falkland..”
already answered re:159 and 181 “the Nootka Convention specifically allowed Great Britain to re-assert prior sovereignty and form new settlements when Argentina attempted to establish a settlement.” So you can thank Argentina for triggering the treaty, and thus giving the British a bona-fide claim to the eastern island. Now wasn't that easy, in spite of your attempts at obfuscation on the issue.

If there were any legal merit to what you say, Argentina and Gollum would have been all over it, like flies to sh!t.

As it is, there is NO legal case, and no legal challenge to the ICJ.
Perhaps you ought to pop along, right now, down the hall to Timerman's office.
    * rolls eyes *

    Pot... kettle ... black, etc.

We need Argentine politicians that know how to press the British buttons, not to get the islands (they should remain British), but just to piss them off.

If Argentina lifted all “anti-Falklands” laws, and if Argentina allowed all private exchanges to occur, and no longer brought up the issue in international meetings... AT THE SAME TIME, completely ignoring the Falklands and the UK government, that would really do a number. As international Divas, the UK will do anything to seek attention. When it sees Argentina has no interest in the Falklands yet still completely ignores what the British government says about “sitting down”, that will be far more effective, since they no longer will be able to use the Falklands as an excuse to explain why both sides do not sit down and “cooperate”.

They need to try it, because that would drive them crazy (and keep the UK flag banned from Argentine waters, not due to the Falklands, but because ”it reminds us of what occurred 208 years ago, and it wounds us seeing that flag near Buenos Aires... PTSS).

Old troll Ant eater, actually a great suggestion...can't wait for you to convince CFK, Timerman, Capitanich , Sonnofabich and all her lackeys to push the law through.......only one problem, to the contrary of your expectations, the UK and the FI would actually thank TMBOA.

    To sum up,
The ”East Falklands Sophistry Rant thread is now concluded.

Terry Hill refuted the jabbering of A-'roids successfully, in a well reasoned post.

    A-'roid could learn some manners.
