Wow Venezuela is finally emulating China.

Unfortunately it isn't in growth or poverty reduction or even hard power.

It is in repression and media censorship.

I had a friend go back to Caracas to help his family fight for a commercial building they have owned for 50yrs that some filthy Chavista wanted to take for himself.
He has not been heard from since fall of last year.
    What a horrible place.
A whole country run by monkeys with guns.

    @ 2 yankeeboy

That’s a bit hard on the monkeys.

The cretins seemingly enthralled by Maduro aren’t half as intelligent as monkeys.

Stevie seems to be absent from these forums. I thought that as a Marxist he would be giving support to Maduro.

@5 Ilsen....impressive video....we see only small clips of the rioting in Caracas, here n there. Dilma and Lula, don't want the Brazilians to see what's going on...how can they justify getting into bed with this son of a bitch ?? VZ neighbours that aren't in cahoots with Maduro (not many, unfortunately), should forcefully remove him from power and put him on trial, Nuremberg style....

    @7 thanks Jack.

yeah. Shutting down the media and means of communication. Now killing it's own citizens. Ruling by decree. Shortages of food and basic goods.
Still claiming not to be a dictatorship?
these scum need to be brought down and punished

Latin America needs democratic leadership to voice concern and demand populist and demagogues to show respect for human rights, democracy and economic and social freedom.
Unfortunately, the so called “leader” of South America, Brazil, seems very happy surrounded by banana-republics, populism and anti-democratic dictators and demagogues like Chavez, Maduro, Fidel and Raul Castro, the Kirchners, Evo Morales and Correa. The only South American leader to openly called for a stop on repression is Bachelet, but the rest ignore and look the other way. Mercosur, Unasur and Celac show how irrelevant they are for maintaining democracy and liberties in the region, it´s all irrelevancy and failed policies and hypocrisy. The consequences of rampant populism in the region is now being felt: devaluations, hyperinflation, loss of freedom, popular unrest and violence, poverty and backwardness.

Censorship and repression continue in Venezuela.

watch the police chase and beat a student protester. If he is a suspected criminal why is he not arrested?

@9..have to agree. Problem with Brazil is the PT backed Federal Government. Lula is the biggest crook this country has ever known. The only reason he is not behind bars is because Dilma protects him...and her cronies, all corrupt sons of bitches. What he and the PT want, is to dominate the country with a one-party system, just like Cuba . VZ is already just about there, CFK is striving hard to follow.
@10, Ilsen...in a lawless country, where the government is a virtual dictatorship, protest and you are a criminal...but they cannot imprison half the population ..may take a long time, but Maduro will get his desserts. Should get strung up like Mussolini....

@9 J.A.M Thank you for a very succinct summary. Well put! You really sum it up very well.
@11 Jack B. I hope he does, but the serious malaise is behind the scenes. As we can see from his 'cadenas' he is merely a 'front-man' and a dupe, who probably in all honesty, believes in what he is doing. The truly dark-forces (read faeces) are the ' boli-bourgeoisie', the scum-suckers who claim to be socialist but are quietly getting rich from the current situation, Now those I would be personally happy to string up myself.
I will soon publish some links, but if you just google boli-bourgeoisie and there is plenty to make an informed opinion...

@12, Ilsen. I agree he is “the” front-man, who, to the ignorant masses, can do no wrong...because they are fed lies and don't have the brains to dig any deeper ...as to being a “dupe”, wouldn't go that far...he is an extremely smart - street smart, well understood - SOB, who is quick to see an opportunity, and quicker to take advantage of it, no matter the consequences. His lack of scruples has made him turn his back to even the very people who got him elected....the poorer working class, which loves him because he is as ignorant as they are, and they can identify themselves with him...You can't beat ignorance.
