Former NSA analyst Edward Snowden was elected as the students delegate in the Scottish University of Glasgow.

“The students have spoken and they chose Edward Snowden as their new Rector,” the University published via its Twitter account.

Snowden competed against local Cyclist Graeme Obree, Writer Alan Bissett and Priest Kelvin Holdsworth. The students who proposed whistleblower Snowden affirmed the victory, and stated that “Our opposition against unmoral and general state intrusion has been proved.”

According the rules within that institution, the rector who acts a representative of the students does not have to be present physically at Glasgow.

Before Snowden –who is currently under asylum in Russia- Madela’s widow ‘Winnie’ and former Israeli nuclear scientist Mordejai Vanunu were also chosen for the job.

LOL! I love this. Students at their finest. The part of their life when they are anti-establishment before they become part of the establishment.

@2 Elaine, yeah I find it hilarious too. It's very much Life of Brian with the student population, always has been for as long as I can remember:

“All right, but apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, the fresh-water system, and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?”
