Brazil's government on Thursday announced 44 billion Reais (18.41 billion dollars) in spending cuts as it seeks to meet its primary budget surplus target for 2014. This year's cuts exceed the 38 billion Reais (some 15.9 billion) in budget reductions announced in 2013 and extend to all government departments except education, health, social development, and science and technology. For starters, it would a positive gesture if Congress were to cut their own salaries by, at least 50%, and eliminated ALL their numerous benefits. They cost the taxpayer billions per year and do damn all to justify it. Their “spending cuts” are no more than a few accounting tricks, that in reality reduce investments, not expenses...they'll never take a decision that's gonna hurt their own pockets.

Ok, so they've cut the Defence budget by 24%...which represents US$ 1,5 billion ....peanuts. Specially when you consider they will have spent approximately US$ 30 billion (20 times more) , on soccer stadiums for the World Cup (don't forget the stealing...at least 20%)....the Federal government will cut anything that will not affect their image....Defence is not REALLY that important...after all who is Brazil going to attack, or try to defend herself from ?? Education ?? definitely LAST priority, 'cause you don't want the people becoming less stupid and seeing through the Governments lies. Public Health ? a real disaster, but which the Government tries to convince us they have solved by 'importing' 7000 doctors (DOCTORS ???) from Cuba, to work in places that no decent doctor wants to go...but it isn't going to work, because what good is a doctor (presuming he's competent) if the medical infrastructure is non-existent ?? All of this is just to pull the wool over eyes of the ignorant masses who lap up all the government propaganda - with a budget higher than the cut in the Defence budget . Who are they kidding ? only the morons, who unfortunately are the ones who vote for the PT.
