    1,060 personnel.

Hardly the population-swamping amount Argentina claims.

I predict dancing in the streets of BA as this represents a clear de-militarisation of the South Atlantic

So it takes 1,060 UK servicemen to militarise the ENTIRE South Atlantic.

The UK must be a military hyperpower!

TMBOA has 100,000 “regular” troops at her “command” (WAF joke).

I think this is a little one sided, there are 1,060 BRITISH armed forces on the Falklands. I propose that if the argies ever chance their arm again the Brits have one arm tied behind their backs in the spirit of evening the odds up a bit. HA, HA, HA.

The only way argie troops will be “regular” is if they take laxatives because they are under supported, lowly paid and badly trained because otherwise they would be a REAL threat to TMBOA. And she can’t have that!

No, the reality is that TMBOA doesn’t WANT the Falklands, what else would she be able to bamboozle the illiterate bastards with who vote for her?

@4 At least you didn't mention where the entrances are. Or the locations of the underground barracks, armouries, tank parks and hangars! Wonder where all that “mothballed” equipment is stored?
@5 You know how good British troops are. In 1982, 30 Commando Brigade and 5 Infantry Brigade, both understrength because of detached units, reached Stanley. 11,313 prisoners.

    34 sussie

I can't say when the islanders will buy a CT scanner; it's not a priority. Remember that despite your previous assertions, that life without a CT scanner is impossible, we revealed and you deadbeats acknowledged that our life expectancy is higher than that of an Argentine.

What do you mean by a decent airplane. The islander, despite its age, is the most ideal aircraft for what it does. If you mean for international flights then what is wrong with the A320 and A330. Again ideal for the routes our flights involve. If owning an aircraft is all that's important to you that is a dumb outlook. Tell me how many airlines are making a good profit at the moment. Certainly not your national carrier.

Class is relative Sussie and we have more money per capita thanArgentine so where does that leave you? Perhaps class to you is lots of ct-scanners a farmacia on every corner and plastic surgery; who knows.

what bloody rubbish Sussie is talking about?...

Oh by the way? If you wanted to get that last line to Rhyme? it's a*s, not ars* yes??

    @34

    “buy a decent airplane?”

Like the scrapheap challenges in the Argentine National Airline?

What better aircraft than the Islander do the Argentines manufacture?

I've seen Islanders (the aircraft) take off into a 55kt plus headwind, and land in worse conditions which would ground most aircraft-so what's your suggestion to replace it?

And airliners-the Falklands are supplied by up to date airliners operated by Lan Chile and the airlines contracted for the RAF airbridge have to be good.

So I don't see your point about aircraft.

Do all Argentines fear instant death if they are not within 5 minutes travel from a CT scanner?

Are there 40,000,000 CT scanners in Argentina?

“You see, no money no class”

As the average Argentine has less money than the average Falkland Islander their 'class' must be in the minus figures (worse than having none).

Our house has a wriggly tin roof and it also has 4 bedrooms, is fully insulated, double glazed, centrally heated, has two bathrooms and a garage and does not stand out as anything special amongst the average houses in Stanley. ...and for every billionaire living in BA there are 100 not-so-well-off people living in shanty town slums in BA. Here in Stanley we have no billionaires that I know of and no down and out homeless people. Just a pretty above average comfortably well off community. Despite the best efforts of your government.

there are many villages here with a population from 1000 to 20000 inhabitants, where there are no shanty towns, there are no poor, no immigrants, etc.
    everything is pretty homogeneous.

now, when you are talking about a big city, the situation is a lot more complex.
there are internal migration, migration from neighbouring countries, different social classes, different neighborhoods, etc.

anyway, guess you don´t know too much about city life, try to travel a bit more.
and maybe you´ll find out who´s ted turner.

Sorry Paul but you didn't answer my question in post 40.

As for your comments at 44. I'm not sure what you're trying to get at and I'm not sure we even disagree. Sussie was boasting that billionaires live in BA like some sort of a trophy. I was simply pointing out that large cities generally have representation from all levels of wealth residing in them. Show me a city the size of BA that doesn't have billionaires.

I've travelled a fair bit. It's all relative but I would say I've travelled far more than the average person; having lived in 4 different countries and having visited every continent on the globe. I shan't say more than that because next I'll be accused of bragging.

Troy, I don't think Paul is Sussie but anything is possible. I think we should have all further discussions under the cone of silence.

So why, because a house has a tin roof and wooden walls IRRESPECTIVE of the value of its contents inside, is that important?

I live in a farmhouse that would beat most Argentine houses and looks very impressive from the outside-brick built, large, Staffordshire tiles on the roof, yet the interior is no doubt not as full as valuable items , furniture etc as Joe Bloggs has in his house.

Does that mean I live in a shanty because the interior isn't much to look at, or does the fact matter that if I put it on the market with the farmland surrounding it I would have no end of people beating down my door to pay a lot of money to buy it, because the outside looks good?

    don't be so sensitive.
it was just to graph what generalizations mean.

many ignorants here say that buenos aires is like a big shanty town, when it is not.
pagando con la misma moneda, anyone can say that all the houses in puerto stanley are like cabins or any kind of precarious housing.

so it was just a bit of rant against those imbeciles.

tin roofs and wooden walls can be a great solution, not only functionally, but also aesthetically.

The civilian population of the Malvinas is, as I understand it, current around 3,000. With around 1,000 military personel that would mean that one in four of the total population is in the military. This ratio is much higher than that which existed in the UK during WWII.

But, in any case, it is irrelevant because this ratio will in no way delay the return of the Malvinas which is going to occur within the next 25 years.
