This is junk science, just like the egg, high cholesterol scare in the 80's, being told not to eat oily fish, being told to reduce consumption of olive oil, to use margarine instead of butter, that saccharine caused cancer....
I hate a government telling their citizens that they can't have salt on restaurant tables, that children may not consume whole milk, that pregnant women cannot consume a single glass of red wine...
Junk Science from the chicken liddles of the world!

The message has been lost, too many contradictions. The governments of the world presume to know what is good for you.

They are reaching into your private family home and telling you what to eat, how much TV to watch, how much exercise to take........

They seem to forget that the ONLY person that knows what is good for you IS YOU!!!!

Tooldtodieyoung, Ahem, I agree in spirit, but “she who must be obeyed”* has decided per my wicked doctor's advice, has taken my single malt privileges away.
It's interesting that my internist says that salt with reasonable limits, is good for most of his patients.
Anyway, the smog here in Santiago is slowly killing us whether we eat red meat or not...
    Cheers!

Pretty much everything that is not fresh from the butcher shop nor the vegetable shop, contains sodium nowadays as sodium nitrite is used for conserving foods and non perishables..

The state has a legitimate interest in people being healthier as it saves money in health care.

and where would we be without surrendering to the tender mercy's of “She who must..”?

As I have found out on the great toll road of life, Female Partners always do things “For your own good, you'll thank me for this later.....”

Although, it does sound like you need to change your doctor, my friend. Anyone who stops “your single malt privileges ” can't be a real doctor!!

Sugar is the addictive drug we should be concerned about. IMO

I had to smile when I read this article. I was having lunch with some Chileans from one of the big families just a few days ago and the patriarch was sitting next to me smothering his food in salt, even his bread roll. He is an octogenarian and seemingly in rude health.
