Britain's interest in the Malvinas Islands is 100% economic and if hydrocarbons exploration in the waters surrounding the archipelago advances we could be facing a major ecologic disaster, said Daniel Filmus, head of the Argentine Foreign Ministry Malvinas Affairs Secretariat. Read full article

Apr 02nd, 2014 - 08:11 am - Link - Report abuse 0'Filmus added that even British public opinion is concerned about the slow advance in the exploration for oil and gas offshore the Malvinas since “the timetable for drilling and pumping oil has been now moved to 2019”.' Which British public is this cretin talking about? Not the one I know...
Apr 02nd, 2014 - 08:14 am - Link - Report abuse 0Nobody knew there was any oil there in 1982.
Apr 02nd, 2014 - 08:32 am - Link - Report abuse 0Sorry Daniel...we fought you for all the right reasons....to stop you annexing the Falklander's homeland against their will.
When you see a headline like this, you know that they are pushing their own reasoning for wanting the Falklands, because they honestly cannot understand why someone would protect someone else, unless there was something in it for them.
Apr 02nd, 2014 - 08:35 am - Link - Report abuse 0So Argentina wants the Falklands for completely 100% economic reasons (so they can steal the oil etc...) and they want 100% of any revenue from the Falklands to go back to BA where their politicians can stuff it all in their off-shore bank accounts.
They cannot understand why the British don't do the same thing. They cannot understand that it is the Falkland Islands Government that gets 100% of the revenue, to spend as they please, and the UK gets nothing.
Why, oh why, these Argentine politicians think, would someone just help other people out from the goodness of their hearts?
It is apparently incomprehensible to them.
Also, very few of the British public put much thought into what is happening in the Falklands. It is the business of the Falkland Islanders, not the business of the British public.
Again, no Argentine can understand why the British aren't obsessed with the Islands, like they are.
Filmus is a moron, does he not seen the contradiction in what he is arguing...
Apr 02nd, 2014 - 08:42 am - Link - Report abuse 0'UK interest in the Malvinas is 100% economic'
then he says...
'UK have a GEOPOLITICAL INTEREST in keeping hold of the colonial enclave in Malvinas because it ensures ”the empire a bi-oceanic corridor that opens the door to dispute Antarctica sovereignty from South American countries.'
Argentine authorization aka making a payment into a swiss or cayman bank account
Apr 02nd, 2014 - 08:57 am - Link - Report abuse 0Filmus, like the rest of the Argentine Government are liars, crooks and thieves.
Apr 02nd, 2014 - 09:04 am - Link - Report abuse 0The Falklands have never been Argentinian, nor will they be unless the imperialists armed forces of Argentina are ever strong enough to defeat the UK's.
This Filmus also things that the international community is stupid and can be tricked by the lies the Argentinian government have openly stated they will spread.
Filmus is seriously deranged if he and his cohorts believe they can invent history, invent support and then expect people to accept it as gospel.
This indicates one thing.....absolute desperation from Argentina to take the spotlight of their crumbling nation due to poor and continued poor governance.
So he says Britain is only after the oil but its all an elaborate hoax by the British to make money but if their is oil then it all belongs to Argentina by birthright but Argentina has no interest in the oil Billions under the ocean.

Since BP merged with Amoco (American) around 16 years ago and due to it being a private company and no longer a state owned company, it is no longer called 'British Petroleum', seems certain people only use that name when it suits them in order to deflect the blame onto the evil empire (Mr Obama & Mr Filmus). The U.S. government sued BP, Andarko, Transocean, Halliburton Energy Services Inc. and MOEX Offshore 2007 LLC, but stangely BP (a multi national company) as the joint owner (not operator) are always singled out and called 'British Petroleum'.
Apr 02nd, 2014 - 09:28 am - Link - Report abuse 0Yet another small and deliberate mis-representation by Argentina to add to all the others.
All this from a government that poisons its own people by polluting dumping sulphuric acid in the water table through open cast mining and over use of glyphosphates and other dangerous chemicals in soy production......
Apr 02nd, 2014 - 09:53 am - Link - Report abuse 0Lies. The British public have no such concerns. I'm British, my family are British, my work colleagues are British and so are my friends - not one has mentioned any such concerns.
Apr 02nd, 2014 - 10:24 am - Link - Report abuse 0And this is why Argentina will netiehr be taken seriously nor get anywhere in regards to it's absurd claim. Nothing they say is based on fact but instead lies, misrepresentation & exaggeration.
The silver lining I guess is they do so well at keeping us all entertained..

Apr 02nd, 2014 - 12:03 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Were they taught to lie or does it come naturally to them?
The Falklands are NOT part of your country & have NOT been stolen from your pathetic nation.
And, Filmus-idiot, it is NOT the Argentine sea, it is the South Atlantic.
And we will sail & trade here, not needing ANY permission from you bunglers.
ldiots.
Poor little Filmus. What an unfortunate argie pillock. So the UK's interest is 100% economic, is it? For gas/oil that will belong to the Falklanders? And, like others, I have seen no sign of British public opinion being concerned. The gas/oil will not be Britain's. The trouble with Filmus is that he can't see any motives other than those he has. A member of a larcenous, mendacious, genocidal gang of nothings. And look at the other goodies. the UK have a geopolitical interest in keeping hold of the colonial enclave in Malvinas because it ensures ”the empire a bi-oceanic corridor that opens the door to dispute Antarctica sovereignty from South American countries, such as Argentina, Chile and Uruguay”. Like the Antarctica that Britain annexed and began exploring 35 years before argieland bothered? Like the Antarctica where Britain GAVE argieland its first research station? Like the Antarctica, argieland and chile only claimed after Hitler said they should? And corporate leaders are well aware we will demand them in a criminal court if their companies are involved in looking for hydrocarbons in the Argentine Sea (South Atlantic). Which criminal court would that be? Like an appropriate corporate leader is going to enter argie jurisdiction”. Not that any argie law is worth taking the time to piss on.
Apr 02nd, 2014 - 12:17 pm - Link - Report abuse 0“we could be facing a major ecologic disaster”
Apr 02nd, 2014 - 01:02 pm - Link - Report abuse 0“the timetable for drilling and pumping oil has been now moved to 2019”. This only comes to confirm what many people argue which is “that the alleged commitments to explore and produce are just stock exchange speculations to make quick money”.
So there's no oil and all the exploration is purely for the stock exchange and somehow this is going to cause an ecological disaster, and this is just one of the glaring contradictions in this article.
They will be drilling for oil in 2015, why do you think that Noble has sent a floating dock that has recently arrived in the FALKLANDS. They would not be sending it halfway around the world to let it be idle for the next 4yrs. What an idiot this Filmus is.
Apr 02nd, 2014 - 01:40 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The Falkland Islands is financially independent of the UK in everything except defence which accounts for 2% of the whole mod budget. Which is kind of odd, considering the UKs only interest is 100% economic...
Apr 02nd, 2014 - 02:06 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Hmmmm....100% interest by the UK is economic. And almost 100% of the Islanders still choose to remain British. Guess they must be ok with that. So who cares Senor Filmus? Next rambling outburst please........
Apr 02nd, 2014 - 02:46 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Ok, Question:
Apr 02nd, 2014 - 04:48 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Is what he says a bigger joke than he is himself?
The companies seeking oil reserves in the Falklands are ALL private companies operation with the approval of the Government of the Falkland Islands. The British government has NOTHING to do with these companies nor, indeed, does the British public at large.
Apr 02nd, 2014 - 04:48 pm - Link - Report abuse 0More lies and fairy tales to perpetuate the false claims.
100% economic ???
Apr 02nd, 2014 - 05:29 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Quiet ironic now that Argentina has just released a 50 peso note with a pic of the Malvinas on it.
I think everyone's interest is economic, why else bother with those wind swept rocks.

Apr 02nd, 2014 - 05:50 pm - Link - Report abuse 0According to the 61-year-old leader, natural resources prospects in Malvinas Islands do not represent the British main interests in the contested area.
“The truth about Malvinas is that it represents a NATO military base in the South Atlantic that is the truth that can no longer remain hided,” the president said and provided a detailed list of British military capability: electronic intelligence systems that “control all the air traffick in the region;” 1500-2000 men deployed to the Islands out of a population of 3,000; a frigate; an icebreaker; a nuclear attack submarine and aircraft armed with long-range ballistic missiles “that could reach several arear in the Southern Cone,” among other British military resources in the contested area.
Etc, etc, etc, etc.........................................................................................
Jesus christ, the plonkers can not even sing from the same hymn sheet!
- Consortium of Noble Energy/Premier Oil/Borders & Southern in Falklands. A tender has now been issued for a harsh-environment UDW floater to undertake a programme offshore the Falkland Islands commencing late-2014/early-2015. The tender is on behalf of Premier Oil, Borders & Southern and Noble Energy, and covers six firm wells and 16 optional wells, with the bulk of the work scope for Noble Energy. This tender has been circulating for a while and we believe Ocean Rig with Eirik Raude (10,000ft 5G harsh-environment semi from 2002) and NADL with West Navigator (7,500ft drillship from 2000) are the most likely candidates for the programme.
Apr 02nd, 2014 - 06:44 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Eat your heart out Filmus. The oil around the Falklands belongs to the Falkland Islanders
“And “let's not forget what happened in the Gulf of Mexico with British Petroleum”, and a similar situation could only be overcome with logistics support from the continent.”
Apr 02nd, 2014 - 08:07 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I agree. The oil industry of North American would, in the event that something HAS happened, mobilise all their rig / oli field stabilisation teams ASAP.
Does Filmus really believe that the argies can do anything to help, other than keep out of the way.
These twats took days to stop a 10,000 tonne oil tank fire from causing serious pollution over “our” continent.
Pratts R Us ought to be the new motto for The Dark Country: well it was whilst the tank burnt itself out.

Apr 02nd, 2014 - 08:22 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I have seen with my own eyes the pollution coming from the nodding donkeys in Neuquen province through the lack of maintenance.
“since if they do invest in the Malvinas without Argentine authorization, they will be barred from other more certain undertakings such as shale oil and gas in Vaca Muerta” in the Patagonian province of Neuquén.
Apr 02nd, 2014 - 08:43 pm - Link - Report abuse 0wow, I can hear all those oil company exec's shaking in their boots from here!!! I bet they must be sh*tting themselves!!
Oh wait, no they're not, they are shaking through uncontrollable laughter.
@30
Apr 02nd, 2014 - 10:36 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Nice one. The cost of of extracting oil from Vaca Muerta will be in the tens of billions of US$. To drill one well and frack the formation will need one thousand trucks of water. There are not many good roads in Neuquen Province. Anyway they will need experts ( expats ) and the Argentinians are by nature a lazy lot.
@31 many yes but not all

so 200% - A bit like their inflation figures!!
Yet Argentines dont get emabrassed by their government, amazing!
Even if true so what they are ours.

You could maybe persuade the islanders but thats never going to happen strangely calling people nonpeople isnt a good starting point.
if it didn't go against operational procedurces I'd have the trident subs pop in for a visit now and then just for the lols.
@33 This is what drives me nuts. We are told that the contrarians here like Simon, pgerman and CD are the norm not the exception and having worked with well-balanced, well-adjududed adult Argentines, I believe them. Yet there is no costly punishment or push-back from the mature majority. The tea party, EDL and even the Occupy Movements get pushback from the grownups on their respective perceived side of the aisle. But the Malvanistas? After decades it is still a workable distraction just like it was when the Junta pulled it on a nation of suckers even though everyone knows that there is no endgame that favors Argentina in the cards. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, oh did you say Malvinas? Nevermind... Plus this unapologetic remorseless Malvanista pageantry puts the country in its worst light possible. The Japanese who have probably the worse reputation w.r.t. facing down WW2 never come close to this. The Germans and Italians, certainly not. But people who inflicted evil on a few thousand innocence for the sole cynical purpose of preserving their evil at home and people commemorating it is absolutely disgusting when viewed from the outside. They mint coins. They print money. They celebrate hijackers in a post 9-11 world where we have still not-too-unreasonable doubts about MH370! How clueless can these people be? Why can't we see heavy pushback from a Grow Up Argentina movement? The Argentines have more pressing and urgent domestic matters on their plates. and everyone knows it. At minimum why can't the grownups get enough people picket outside of useless Mr. Filmus window-desk office and tell him to take the case to the ICJ (the ONLY people who can solve it over the heads of the Islanders -- though of course we all know the ICJ will side with the Islanders rights) or dissolve the office and give it all up.

Blimey-the MOD kept quiet about those Vulcans and Blue Steel missiles. And there was me thinking the Vulcans went in 1984 and the Blue Steel around 1970.

Hmmm there's been speculation about oil around the Islands since 1968-don't remember seeing anything much on TV from disgruntled Brits since then...
Britain's interest in the Malvinas Islands is “100% economic”
Said Filmus as he looked up INDEC's webpage.

Apr 03rd, 2014 - 09:11 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Why can't we see heavy pushback from a “Grow Up Argentina” movement?
....because you can tell an argentine, but you can't tell him much!!!
Because the nation is too brain washed, too stuck in it's ways, not willing / able to learn from the past and evolve as a people or a nation.
If argentina were a human being she would still be at the learn-to-walk stage. Still sits in the car seat, still having tantrums at the check out when mummy says No, you are not having that bag of crisps. Still at the I see it, I want it stage of life.
They are angry at everyone else for doing better than them and they are angry at themselves for not doing better.
I think that Terry Pratchett said it best in Monstrous Regiment ( A Discworld Novel ) When the Heroine ( Polly ) is in conversation with Commander Vimes of the City Watch and she is thinking to herself We have our pride, and that is what we are proud of, we are proud of being proud
What do you do with a country like that?
This Filmus clown is sooo pathetic.
