Notorious Argentine barras bravas football hooligans can travel to the World Cup without intelligence being passed on beforehand to hosts Brazil, a court has ruled. The court in Buenos Aires said that the Argentine government is not allowed to tell another country personal information about its citizens, a lawyer for the United Argentine Fans (HUA) supporters' group said on Wednesday. Apr 17th, 2014 - 10:24 am - Link - Report abuse 0Barras bravas, the face of Argentina. As if Argentina didn't have a bad enough reputation in Brazil already.
Oh dear!
Apr 17th, 2014 - 10:58 am - Link - Report abuse 0None of this is looking very good for anyone.
Brasil has the right to deny entry to criminals...and I think most of them are. Maybe Brasil should just deny entry to all Argentines.....
Apr 17th, 2014 - 11:07 am - Link - Report abuse 0Why does Brazil not ask for names of known hooligans and says to Argentina that they will not be barred entry to Brazil but that if there is trouble and they are involved the full force of Brazilian law will be exercised. In fact tell the troublemakers that they will be incacerated for a long time when they enter Brazil.

Apr 17th, 2014 - 02:56 pm - Link - Report abuse 01. what a country
Britain withholds shit. Most instances of violence in World Cup history are instigated by British hooligans.
2. Barras Bravas, the face of Argentina.
Obviously the implication here is all Argentines are dirty and criminals.
4. Maybe Brasil should just deny entry to all Argentines
Clear intimation that Argentines equates a criminal, every woman and child too.
So you see, when I treat you all like the scum you people are, don't come crying oh, why you call me racist, waah!, ay, why you insult my country, we're talking about Argentina, waah!
5. says to Argentina
But Brazil should say nothing to Britain, the suggestion being Brazil should respect Britain but fuck Argentina.
You people are twisted. Sit down one day and reflect on how rotten you have all become inside. Just advice!
Convictions are public knowledge in civilized countries. If these known criminals have been convicted of a crime Argentina should have no trouble passing on the names of the people if Brazil asked for them.
Apr 17th, 2014 - 03:10 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I can't imagine how awful these WC games are going to be. I would never attend something like this in a 3rd world country.

No one gives a fark about the opinion of an American at a World Cup. Sorry.
@4 Have to admit that you beat me to the idea of refusing all argies entry to Brazil. But how about adding in advising the argie judge in question that, if there is any violence involving argies, an international arrest warrant will be issued for him/her on a conspiracy charge.
Apr 17th, 2014 - 04:43 pm - Link - Report abuse 0By the way, can you hear that gabbling noise in the background?
Barra brava is a name for organized supporter groups of football teams in Latin America. This style of supporting is very similar to European ultras. It includes standing throughout the match, singing and other enthusiastic behavior. Some barras bravas have developed reputations for hooliganism.
Seems that there must be adequate evidence to bar barras bravas from Brazil. In the absence of data from argieland, it would seem that there are adequate grounds to bar all argies from Brazil on the grounds of public safety. There have been 249 recorded deaths as a result of argie football hooliganism.
Seems someone doesn't like the truth.
Calm down, lads.
Apr 17th, 2014 - 04:47 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Regular argentines are allowed to enter in Brasil just like any other foreigner and are certainly welcome in the World Cup.
But NOT barra bravas. Brazilians already had enough of them in the Libertadores da América's matches, specially Boca Juniors fans (I'm not saying that ALL Boca's fans do this kind of things, but It happens more frequently with them).
Regarding the news:
It's something to be worried since Argentina will play in Porto Alegre, southernmost brazilian capital and near to Uruguay and the provinces of Entre Rios, Santa Fé and northern Buenos Aires, including the capital. I bet that many barra bravas and even some villeros will be there looking for problems.
I just don't understand why Argentine government is protecting those criminals. I bet it has something to do with political connections between the barras and the Ks. It's sad, because they will give again a bad name to the normal argentine fans.
Its a scheme between the Barras, the Ks and the AFA

Apr 17th, 2014 - 06:56 pm - Link - Report abuse 0There's persistent comment in the RG press about how to put a lid on their footy hooliganism problem, often with reference to how the UK successfully tackled the problem. The consensus seems that there is no real political will to tackle it: the relationship between the clubs, these gangs, the police and politics is very different (and toxic) to that experienced in the 80s and 90s in the UK. All a bit of a can of worms, hence nothing is ever done.

Some say only a thousand or so diehard England fans may make the long and expensive trek down to South America, which judging past campaigns seems ridiculously small.
But those who do go will find the country is well used to providing a force of steel to combat its own hooligan element and any sign of England's traditionally boisterous army of fans getting drunk and violent will be met head on.

But seriously, in real life, British hooliganism on the terraces never ever approached the Galatasaray levels of REAL violence - knives, in particular.
Sparta Praha (Cz), Wisla Krakow (Pol), Celtic/Rangers (Sc), Galatasaray and Fenerbachce (Tu), Red Star Belgrade (Serb), and Universitario (Peru) will not provide problems of violence from their 'fan'-base because their countries did not make it to the finals.
Those that did make it, and are listed as having the most violent 'fans' are:
Dynamo Zagreb (Croatia)
Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid, and FC Barcelona (Spain)
Flamengo and Fluminese (Brasil)
Lazio and Roma (Italy)
Feyenood (The Netherlands)
PAOK (Greece)
Zenit St Petersberg (Russia)
Milwall, West Ham, West Brom and Birmingham City (England) ... though it's true to say that most of this English violence happened in the 1970s and 80s!
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1035747-20-most-thuggish-fan-bases-in-world-football/page/21
But I think that the Argentina situation is much, much worse than the Bleacher Report list.
Whether it is Boca Juniors, Estudiantes or other Argentinian clubs, the REAL Argentinian problem is gangs and gang warfare that goes beyond the football.
The Barras Bravas are tied into corrupt police and political violence, when they fight for dominance of the gangs people get shot both inside and outside the football grounds.
Over 270 people have died to date - gang members and those dying from 'lost bullets'.
It will be interesting to see if the immensely 'popular' Rafael di Zeo and his 2000 members of La 12, largely associated with Boca Juniors, are banned from the World Cup by Brasil.
I have my doubts because they are so tied into the underworld of Argentinan politics.
British football hooligans fought with fists and boots - but most are now collecting their pensions.
Glad I only like my walks and runs through the canyons and forests.

Apr 18th, 2014 - 04:11 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Argentina has a long history of financial crises and its current government has gotten its fair share of criticism for its economic policies but the nation’s latest trade data has economists scratching their heads and wondering just how its number crunchers can keep a straight face.
Government trade figures from the country's official statistics agency touts a $9 billion 2013 trade surplus but analysts are challenging that claim after comparing it customs data. Some observers believe the government is misrepresenting the country’s trade balance by about as much as its reported trade surplus.
“The differences between ICA [intercambio comercial Argentino, which publishes the country's trade data] the figures and customs data are not new, but they used to be smaller, between 2 and 3 percent, while in 2013 they were around 12 and 13 percent,” Mauricio Claverí, foreign trade analyst for Argentine economic analysis firm abeceb.com, told La Nación.

Personally I'm glad the $43 million bid failed. There are plenty of other countries for whom soccer is much more important and have never held the World Cup ( the Netherlands comes to mind ). Plus it would undoubtedly disrupt the footy season and well...that's just not on.

@54 Getting difficult is it, slob? Did I get too close to home? It's well-known that certain types accuse others of what they do themselves. They know that what they do is WRONG. But they can't stop. Overwhelming urges to bend over and thrust back. Little boys and girls. Photographs. Videos. Toys - This won't hurt - much. Is this a combination of Tron and Vargas? For those who don't remember Vargas was/is an incontinent, benefit-scounging, argie wetback in Canada. Is there anything worse than an uneducated, emigrant, benefit-scrounging waste of space? Why can't we identify these people so that they can be rounded up and dealt with? Britain and Canada are too soft. Such individuals should be shot. Or electrocuted. Or decapitated. Or impaled.
Apr 20th, 2014 - 12:24 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Never done ballet. I used to settle for placing an argie on the spot and then kicking its arse over the crossbar. The only problem was that it started running the moment you put it down. But it discarded everything. Difficult to hit its bollocks. Either because they had already sucked them in or because they didn't have any in the first place. 11,313 bollockless argies were captured in 1982.
By the way, drone, that was real wargames. Where REAL British soldiers took on dross and PROVED their cowardice and incompetence. Don't need a computer to play wargames against argies. A bayonet, an assault rifle and a British soldier. Even better, a Royal Marine. Many scores to settle. Stand on their backs after they'd been ordered to lay down their weapons? Perhaps a different method for Royal Marines. Run up, last step on the argie spine, then KICK the argie head over the horizon. Want to die, kiddie bigmouth? I can smell you crapping your pants from here. But I'd love to spill your intestines on the ground and watch you try to pick them up. No arguments, no education, no intelligence. And you wonder why you are ridiculed? Shite trying to pretend it's lamb! Back in your toilet. IF you know what one is!

Then his stuff up with Surfer. I don't doubt he has more. But I've now come to realise that it doesn't matter. Replying to a sockpuppet doesn't reflect badly on anyone other than the person that created it. Not that this applies to you. Just something I've now realised.
As for any comments about my sexuality, I honestly can't remember any. If you did then it is already forgotten, literally! You obviously didn't revel in it like Think and Stevie have when they let loose.
Anyway to the important stuff.
ANZ Stadium! Seriously. Heiso you know it would be the 'G. Not only does it have an extra 16,000 person capacity, but let's face it; there's no single sporting event in the world that has a larger attendance than the AFL Grand Final.
From a logistical and marketing perspective, it is hard to beat the G for access from the CBD and hotels. And also Victorian are just plain barmy for any sport. Let's face it, we're just weird.
ANZ would probably have the opener. Lots of Opera House and Harbour Bridge perspectives in the lead up to centre bounce or whatever they call it!
The one guarantee is that we wouldn't need to deploy the army beforehand. And thugs such as barras bravas would have a hell of a lot harder time trying to get through emigration.
But good luck to Brazil. I don't think it'll be the disaster some are predicting.

@62, 65 Brazzo ...once again, and as usual, you are WRONG....first of all the subject here is the World Cup, not the Olympics....but since you've ventured off into a field you know absolutely nothing about, please note that the London 2012 Olympics was the SAFEST Olympic build ever, with a reported INJURY rate of .17 per 100,000 man hours...ZERO deaths.

Apr 20th, 2014 - 09:48 pm - Link - Report abuse 0“But in addition to completing work on budget and ahead of schedule, the London Olympics construction program had no fatalities. Further, the overall accident frequency record was substantially below the U.K average.”
Pulled out of this report from ENGINEERS not lying Brazilian bastards:
https://enr.construction.com/business_management/safety_health/2012/0730-london-olympics-construction-is-safest-in-recent-times.asp
“The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) awarded 1,300 direct contracts, according to Gibb, and it estimates that 75,000 companies were involved in the work.”
And still ZERO deaths. Just for you, that meant NOBODY DIED.
WAF idiot!
68. Richer? You must have forgotten I lived there and I've actually been to the Falklands.

Never let the truth stand in the way of a good story!

ChrisR, the brainless twat that calls himself Brasileiro, is a disgrace to Brazil...people who try to read his posts might think there are no educated Brazilians.....although, I must admit, they are in the minority...

Apr 20th, 2014 - 09:56 pm - Link - Report abuse 0This news shows the position of England within the OECD.
You can look a bit more about the deaths. You will be surprised.
Idiot is you!
74. You've never been to Brazil have you? Pickpockets and people pissing in public are pretty common.
Apr 20th, 2014 - 10:03 pm - Link - Report abuse 0They are so common they don't even make the news.
Gasp
@75..Brasidiota, your 'link' refers to general work-related accidents, not to the Olympics , or the World Cup....obviously you did not understand a word of it ; but if you want to compare this kind of statistic from Brazil and from the UK, be my guest...you won't like what you see...
Apr 20th, 2014 - 10:05 pm - Link - Report abuse 0All Englishmen are cancerous, old, ugly and sick. Doing business with them is a waste of time.

The image I have of you is disgusting ...
One minute I'm going to puke .... aaa ....
The image I have of England is an ugly, lifeless place.
Please do not come to Brazil.
Please Brazil, extrude on Englishmen who are here.
Vá se ferrar Jack Via Dão!
My conclusions about you were drawn a long time ago.
Apr 20th, 2014 - 10:33 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Let me ask you a question, did you exchange all your pesos for rials when you got there and then back again when you went home?
@83 BrasIDIOTA, careful now numbnuts, the image might take up all the space in your tiny brain. And if you puke, remember to lap it up while it's still warm.
Apr 20th, 2014 - 10:49 pm - Link - Report abuse 0You'd love to go to England but you can't afford it, can you 'pobretão' ?
And the way you used extrude ?....completely WRONG...AGAIN.

So Brasileiro claims 16 workers died building the London Olympics.
Apr 21st, 2014 - 12:24 am - Link - Report abuse 0But actually none did.
He then highlights how many workplace deaths there are and how bad England ranks in the OECD. Cnut won't quite comparable Brazilian statistics even after 9 people have actually died in stadia construction. Thankfully a quarter of planned infrastructure isn't to be build. That surely saved more lives.
More people are killed by cops in Brazil in a year than homicides in England per year
Paulcedron decides its time to highlight the Hillsborough tragedy from a quarter of a century ago. luckily next world cup is not in england. Indeed considering the reforms and safety this incident promoted.... but I digress that wasn't the spirit of the comment. This spirit of the comment was this:
http://www.smh.com.au/world/football-referee-beheaded-after-stabbing-player-20130709-2pmpv.html
So glad the next World Cup is not in Brazil..... oops!

Apr 21st, 2014 - 05:47 am - Link - Report abuse 0In it's bid for the Cup the FAA planned to have the final at the ANZ. The capacity for the Olympics was actually 110 000. They reconfigured it afterwards for it's current capacity. I assume they can reverse that process. Yes Melbourne is definitely one of the great sporting cities, but as to sporting attendance...a U.S. College football game drew 114 000+ last year.
The groovy little phrase you invented is a cop-out IMO. It might have inspired your initial pit-bull like focus, but you kept going because it made you feel important didn't it? And earned you the praise of your peers did it not?
What are the odds of some ageing Patagonian knowing what the hell the South Fremantle Football Club is, or what their recruiting zone could possibly mean? The little town I mentioned is so small it doesn't even appear on most W.A. maps. How could Think possibly know of such a place? I even gave you the opportunity to discover my real name. You're a student, an intelligent man, I assumed you could easily find your way around your State Library.
You didn't take the opportunity because it didn't suit your interests. I recognise it takes guts to apologise on a public forum and I hold no ill-will towards you but I trust my perception of reality, based on the above, more than yours.
I didn't direct anything homophobic towards you, I simply challenged your commitment towards defending the same. Obviously I was completely wrong.
And now there's a blockbuster at the G I should be devoting my attention to...
Nice to see that I've had a lasting effect on you.

These postings are getting really boring.
How about spending a week really sticking to the topic of the article and focussing on giving well argued, informative postings from Brasil's perspective.
*I* know you can do it if you want to.
If you do it, perhaps it will help Stevie to also do it.
I think some people have missed the point here. The article mentions the Argentine government and intelligence. Is anyone surprised that none will be handed over?

The Barra Brava behave the way they do because they are allowed to. They even have a say in the running of clubs, which is quite extraordinary.
Apr 22nd, 2014 - 02:52 am - Link - Report abuse 0When faced by a police force that won't tolerate their behaviour, they'll be producing enough methane gas to help Argentina get power (as per the other MP story on flatulence), akin to the Monty Python Run away, run away scenes in the Quest for the Holy Grail.
