Argentina's poverty index closer to “25% than to the official 5% from Indec”

Friday, April 25th 2014 - 05:56 UTC
Full article 49 comments

Argentina's stats office, Indec failed on Wednesday to deliver the country's poverty and indigence rates due to “methodological” reasons, the head of ministers explained on Thursday morning adding the measurement of the basic basket “differs totally” from CPI’s calculations. His comments triggered a cataract of criticisms. Read full article

Just love INDEC. Just love the way it distorts the truth to hoodwink the Argentine electorate away from reality in much the same way as the politicians spread the 'great Malvinas lie.' Lol.

“it will be because the methodological problems have been resolved”

The reporting problems are going to be “resolved”. I can't wait for this! This is going to be an extra magnificent crock.

I bet they just don't release anything because, “we just weren't able to resolve things”. (Due to the complex mathematical equations we used)

Is this “Graciela Bevacqua, also a former head of Indec, sacked by the Kirchner couple“ the person who was embarrassing the dastardly duo by telling the truth? I bet it is and she should come back when the new president (poor sod) takes over.

If not and the system remains as now it will be a sure sign that it’s “carry on as usual” and full speed into the floor from a great height.

    3. They can add, the problem is when they added it came up to a 37% poverty rate and they all knew they'd be dead if they released it.

    Bahahahaha
Maybe I was wrong with my 50% poverty rate by next year. I see Renault just laid off 800 people.
I think that's the 2nd car mfg idling workers
Wait until they all pull out
That will be fun to watch.

The inflation is ravishing the Argentine people; I personally know a lot of people who can't eat properly these days. If you think - @yankeeboy - that this is “fun to watch” you are a f*@ing psychopath. Not cool. Not at all.

However, Argentina's problem isn't guys like yb, rather being under the rule of the worst government, including the military dictatorships, that Argentina has ever seen.

Jonaz, It is fun to watch how the gov't has fleeced its citizens, absconded with U$ Billions, devastated the economy for a generation while the idiotic population took gov't handouts to look the other way.
All while saying the party will never end.
    It ended
    Won Decade indeed.

    I like watching it.
    From afar

My hope is the population wakes up and finally elects an honest gov't, lives by the rule of law, pays it debts, lives up to its Int'l commitments, and the citizens learn to work for a better life and not live on handouts.

My bet is that they will elect someone just as corrupt and evil as the Ks.

At some point you MUST blame the citizens for their shortsightedness and idiocy.

    I do

Yankeeboy is right. After the default in 2001/2 Argentines should have considered that it would take a generation to fix the inherent institutional problems that created the environment for it to happen. However just 2 or 3 years after the biggest national default in history Argentines were willing to believe that with the Kirchners at the helm their problems were over. They just wanted to believe it. The problem is with the constant nationalistic agenda which encourages Argentines to believe that the country is emotionally united that state is responsible for everything and all problems are the fault of someone else.

Not saying the UK or the US or Europe have all the answers but Argentina has too much to be in the position its in.

However at some point, Argentinians, do have to take some responsibility for the governments that they are electing.

The people will never take responsibility for anything that the government have done. They would love to see every single politician pay for the crimes (and the debt) but the people themselves aren't going to do squat but complain to the government, and they sure aren't ever going to pay a single cent of the debt or work harder than they are. Actually everyone in Argentina thinks they are working like slaves, even the public employees.

As usual, you seek to excuse yourself. “It wasn't us, it was the junta.” And yet YOU turned out in tens of thousands to “celebrate” the “victory” of tens of thousands of fully-armed and equipped argie troops over 1,500 peaceful Falkland Islanders. What a shame about the arrival of 10,000 fully-armed, equipped and supported British troops. Seems to have screwed your plans to invade Chile as well.

    6 Jonaz_BsAs & Yankeeboy......
I can understand why Yankeeboy derives so much guilty pleasure from watching the improvised circus show over in Argentina, I feel the same emotions. The Argentines are a unique species, the first country in the modern era to have “developed” their way to the bottom, having once been the 6th largest economy in the early 20th century. As a Chilean, our infinitely poorer country, both in terms of human capital and natural resources needs the CFK regime to continue. We need to have this example of what NOT to do; right in front of our faces! Because in Chile there is an abundance of ignorant people who believe that the state should take responsibility for everything.
These leftist hordes scare me to f#@king death. My whole life I have waited for two things to happen, one ...That we become a developed economy and two... That we win a world cup. That's all, is it too much to ask????

Yankeeboy, I'm no fan of Obama. He has lied all the way through his administration, but as far as I can see he's no different to the so called conservatives he replaced. In fact he has continued most of the policies of the past administration. Even his signature “Obamacare” corruptly hands millions of new customers to the insurance companies with the threat of penalties to citizens who do not comply and purchase coverage. Turns out he's just a scammer, a front man for the crooks in wall street and big oil. No different to Bush. You guys have a straight forward constitution which clearly indicates the parameters that the federal government has to operate within, I hope one day a leader will rise who will honor that document, before it's too late.

It seems to be the American version of progressivism/collectivism that is a failure. The Netherlands and Scndinavia show how it should be done, but the US is a slow learner. “Why? Among the reasons: This country has lost its once-wide lead in educational attainment.”

“The American Middle Class Is No Longer the World’s Richest”
“After-tax middle-class incomes in Canada — substantially behind in 2000 — now appear to be higher than in the United States. The poor in much of Europe earn more than poor Americans.”

Well, as you should know - after having resided in Argentina for a longer period: the one and only word with the postfix “boy” in Argentina is “Taxiboy”, which is a gay prostitute. My intentions with comment 37 were solely educational. If you, however, in fact are a male prostitute, I want you to know that I don't discriminate against your choice of profession - I only thought you should know.

With regards to Scandinavia: The nominal GDP per capita is higher in Scandinavia than in the US and has been so over the last 30 years. Only a guy who gets his cues from Sean Hannity would cite the size of the country as a factor of Scandinavia's success.

The only people who get punched in the face repeatedly are old ladies when they are being mugged! What a bunch of cowards unless there are at least five of them for each old lady.

You see this crap all the time on the videos Clarin post.

The latest one involved two “heroes” who, when a motorcyclist pulled up at a road junction, it took both of them to pull him off his bike and then they rode off. A policia patrol spotted them and called in the policia ute to catch them. The heroes never looked behind them (nobody from SA ever does in a car or on a moto, especially the argies) and the twats pulled into a car park just as the policia got there as well.

Out of the open passenger window of the ute came the usual 12 gauge pump shotgun and the pair of them put their hands up straight away, probably crapped their pants as well.

I reckon Joan Baez would be able to floor this little hero who has (almost) nicked her name.

Living in Canada, and a “cross- border shopper”, I can tell you that even if we earn more than the US Middle Class, our purchasing power is far less than that of our US neighbours.
Everything costs less in the 'States, except Health Care.
Some things cost SUBSTANTIALLY LESS, homes and property for a start, cars are 20% less in the US, food, clothes, fuel, air travel, taxes, you name it - cost of living is far lower.
The point being, your comparisons don't show the true picture - the US Middle Class still has it really good.
