Falkland Islanders that travelled on the South Atlantic air-bridge (Brize Norton-MPA and MPA-Brize Norton) on 16 and 18 April will be refunded since a non civilian-registered aircraft was involved, but will have to pay a £150 booking fee in order to support the government's policy of subsidizing air-bridge fares. Success in adversity, the Falkland Islanders and their friends in Britain have learnt to cope with every embargo, every obstacle, every futile protest that the Argentine government tries to put in their way.

    What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger!

    How pathetic of Argentina to have a sovereignty claim that is solely based on proximity and is no stronger than Canada claiming Alaska.

    @3 The FIders do believe they are in another country just not in the right part in the world. They do not acknowledge they are part of the South American continent and think they are in some make believe place in the “South Atlantic” therefor disassociating themselves from a continent only a stone throw away.

    Apparently there is a move afoot to tow the the FALKLANDS to just south of the Isle of White, then Argentina cannot claim territorial rights. Can anyone confirm this rumour?

    @1 Get used to it. Unless you want to leave argieland and reside in a proper country! Still slugs and faggots can't see much. Can't even talk much with their mouths full. Just look at MA. Two sausages and a rotten banana.
    @10 Can you understand this? Large gap between Falkland Islands and faggotland. No common language. No common culture. No common ethnicity. And UNCLOS says islands have their own “continental shelf”. Nothing to do with faggotland. Do the sensible thing. Die!
    @15 You are indeed a vestige. And so you are one of those marked for execution.
    @16 Not sure where you're coming from. Ukraine is a sovereign country. Piss off and mind your own business, Russia.

    @1
    “The Effects of Living in a Foreign Country”.

    Correct, another factor that disclaims the myth that the Falkland islands are part of 'England'

    As Islanders pay their way, they would never expect to travel completely free on RAF aircraft and do not qualify for indulgence flights.

    @10
    “disassociating themselves from a continent”

    No, they disassociate themselves from Argentina-not the rest of South America, although Argentina do think they are the whole of South America. The Islands are not welded to the continent as they are islands in the South Atlantic, a long way from Argentina (long enough away for Argentine Air Force aircraft to need air tanker support for any chance of flying to and from the Islands).

    @15

    “They will receive their refund by post to their regular home address in England.”

    Unlikely, as the Islanders reside in the Falkland Islands-the clue is in the name.

    It is typical of the Argentine side to presume to know what the Falkland Islanders believe, or is this propaganda what the spin doctors and dodgy cartographers in BA want the world to believe? They must think that the rest of the world is as dumb as they are.

    The real story is that, given the remoteness and difficult climate of the Islands and the long struggle that the Falkland Islanders have endured across nearly 200 years of Argentine aggression and white anting; the people of the Falklands are well aware of who they are and where they are.

    They are not the ones who are ‘disassociating’ themselves, it is continual campaigning by Argentina to try and isolate them from the rest of South America that contributes to their isolation. It is Argentina that is ‘disassociating itself from the Falklands. Hector and the rest of the heroes who currently make up the Argentine government must look like real big men when they step upon the world stage and try and destroy the legitimacy of a tiny neighbour a fraction of the size of Argentina.

    ‘only a stone throw away’. Some stone! Some throw! I suggest that you check that statement with an Argentine fast jet pilot!

    Shocked to hear that the Islands are just a stones throw from Argentina. How did Argentina let so many sailors from the Belgrano die when it sunk between the Islands and Argentina?

    Hope Argentine mothers have learned from this and now teach their kids to swim, you will probably be a strong swimmer. Look forward to hearing about you proving your point with a short distance swim to the Islands.

    Thanks for posting that link, Marcos.

    And so we learn that Argentina has discredited its own accusations of militarization by attempting to prevent military attaches from other countries seeing for themselves, only to learn that none of them wants to get involved in the sovereignity dispute anyway.

    Such a colossal own goal by Timerman, Filmus, and Castro that even I am embarassed for you.

    And to add to the hilarity, the whole sorry saga is trumpeted in the Argentine press as an Argentine victory!

    The uk is paying through the nose by a truly dodgy pfi deal but the voyagers do work and wont be sezied by bailiffs unlike any argie aircraft.
    If argentina wasnt a disaster it might have got the islands as it is no chance why would the islanders vote to go from a nice surplus to being bankrupt?
