It would be a great idea if all footballers with dark skin left the clubs where the 'fans' declare them to be skilful monkeys rather than human beings.

These clubs would rapidly drop out of the higher leagues as their dark-skinned players moved to clubs with more enlightened fans.

Now that is a textbook approach to dealing with racism without retreating into victimhood. Class AND attitude. Bravo Dani Alves.

Perhaps I am naive but I thought we had made some headway against this nonsense of “monkeys” and the like: it seems not.

Club managements should be given a short time to kill this stone dead or face having points removed by their FIFA associated national body. Only by hitting them where it hurts will the other fans deal with it seriously and soon dob-in the culprits who can then be banned from the sport.

The real problem is of course the lack of education and exposure to a range of nationalities, good and bad.

I was pleased to see that the moron who did this has been identified and is now banned for life from attending any matches.
