Venezuela’s three-month protest movement has dwindled to a hard core of a few hundred violent troublemakers and the unrest should be over by July, when schools and universities break up for the summer holidays, a top security official said. Read full article

May 17th, 2014 - 09:25 am - Link - Report abuse 0Chavismo must devour itself for Venezuela to move on.
Thankfully it has starter to already.
Read: we will have everyone in prison by July.

I bet he's wrong, human tend to have a short fuse when its hot, especially if there is no water, food or electricity.
May 17th, 2014 - 11:50 am - Link - Report abuse 0This should be very fun to watch
It's always hot in Venezuela, yanqui.
May 17th, 2014 - 12:11 pm - Link - Report abuse 0That was it.
Try again, send more money.
Bullshit from the top still means bullshit at the bottom for every society plagued by bullshitters.

5. Never been there huh? Ave temp most of the year 80s during the day but gets up to the mid 90s for a season.

Mid 90s no a/c no water no food
yanqui, it's always hot in Venezuela. It's a tropical country. The biggest impact on weather is humidity and elevation.
May 17th, 2014 - 01:06 pm - Link - Report abuse 0You need to study more, although I agree it might be a little late...
My house in the mountains is lovely and cool at night.

However, the lowland cities will be seething and burning over the coming months.
Hopefully this criminal government will be ousted shortly.
I wonder how long it will be begore the Little Bird says its time to migrate?
May 17th, 2014 - 06:32 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Ilsen, I'm very sorry that your family is caught up in this. But I think you'd agree with me when I say that it has to get worse. A lot worse. Chavismo has to be totally discredited as an ideology.
May 18th, 2014 - 12:08 am - Link - Report abuse 0And that is only going to happen if it collapses under its own mismanagement and contradictions.
Otherwise it'll linger on and destroy Venezuela for generations. Just like Peronism has done to Argentina.
The funny thing is that both Argentina and Venezuela are next door to countries that are doing it right and reducing poverty and inequality much better than they claim to be.
Over 3000 detentions have taken place since the protest begun back in February.

@11 Anglotino.
May 18th, 2014 - 07:32 am - Link - Report abuse 0Thank you.
Sadly I have to agree with your statements. Hopefully we can get everyone out of the country or at least up to the mountains before it gets much worse.
I have pretty much stopped trading there now. It is impossible to set prices due to the government false exchange rate. Also the fear of expropriation, or the government sending troops in and forcing you to sell at the prices they demand.
Crazy.shit.
oh course when that happens the shop owners can't afford to restock and have to fire the staff. Yippee, state enforced unemployment. Well done Chavistas!
oh if you have any form of Inventory you can be accused of hoarding and thrown in jail. This is why there is no bread or milk. No toilet roll or shower gel.
Venezuela is now one of the very worst places in the world to do business.
Shame.
13. I can't believe Maduro is still giving away oil to other countries. They can't afford to import Cancer or HIV meds for their own people and he has the nerve to give away something valuable!

May 18th, 2014 - 11:27 am - Link - Report abuse 0Unfortunately I have pretty much read about everything you say. I also have firsthand experiences from Venezuelans living in Australia.
It also seems that Colombia is benefitting from Venezuela's brain drain.
I wonder how many will move back for the rebuilding?
@ 15 Anglotino
May 18th, 2014 - 02:02 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I also have firsthand experiences from Venezuelans living in Australia.
No, that is second hand experience. To have firsthand experience means you have experienced it yourself.
I could say I expected something better of you, but I won’t! :o)

May 18th, 2014 - 03:29 pm - Link - Report abuse 0pedantically correct you are.
But I think we all got the point that he has received first hand info from Venezuelans in Australia.
Fortunately this is some thing you can view from afar.
You can imagine how I feel with family directly experiencing this shit.
Maybe we will all move to Uruguay. Seems a bit more chill out there!
Ilsen.
May 18th, 2014 - 03:50 pm - Link - Report abuse 0One thing is becoming apparent from your situation and that is that your young people are a credit to your country, with an abundance of courage. A courage that perhaps not all of us possess. They are true Venezualans.
One thing is certain, when this is all over, they are not going to accept anything like Chavism, ever again.
I wish you and them the best.
@ 17 ilsen
May 18th, 2014 - 07:01 pm - Link - Report abuse 0If you are in anyway upset with my post @16, please accept my apologies: it was certainly not intended to upset anybody.
Anglotino had used that phrase about me on another topic clearly without understanding or thinking through why I had written it, very unusual for him I must say which is why I put the :o) on.
I do hope that you and your family come out of this utterly dreadful situation without being harmed or losing your wealth.
We have many thousands of thinking Argentines moving to Uruguay so I am sure there would be room for you and yours!
Peace!
He and his are more than welcome here.
May 18th, 2014 - 07:06 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Disgraceful what fake Urugusyan Stevie , and Voicey, niño-Mendicino, the Argentine Trolls are saying about ilsen and the Chav farce in Venezuela.
May 18th, 2014 - 08:31 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Best wishes to you and your family, ilsen.
It's because the man speaks the truth and that goes against their ideologies.
May 18th, 2014 - 08:43 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Garnered from books and not life experiences of course.
Heartfelt thanks to all those offering supportive words.
May 18th, 2014 - 10:06 pm - Link - Report abuse 0It is appreciated. We (she) also have family in Barcelona, (which I love to visit!), and we are thinking about a move there, but Spain right now? Big Risk that it will improve. Not so sure about it, hmmm... She wants to, but I am dubious.
However, I'm am trying to restructure to a new fluid model of business where I do not need to stock anymore. Hopefully just do everything online and we can live anywhere. Tough call, but fingers crossed!
ChrisR: No offence taken. Understandably I am a little 'raw' on the subject at the moment. Obviously by your post, you understand this. Cheers! All the best for you and yours!
@reality check
I am enormously proud of both my kids and step-children (all teenagers) who are far more advanced than me (as it should be) with global/social media.
They alerted me to the Arab Spring/ The 200 girls in Nigeria etc. Before the BBC or others!
Yes, I rebelled at their age (against my parents/society as one does), but these kids are so more clued-up about economics/politics/global-strife etc. it makes me both ashamed and hugely proud!
Thank you for your support.
@Troy
Firm, manly handshake. Thank you Sir.
I mentioned you to my wife and she say's Hi, thank you for being a good friend to 'ilsen', I would love to visit Canada one day and... and... well... it's hard to translate but it involves sticking it to the donkey's mothers, or possibly getting the donkeys to stick it to, well... It definitely involves Trolls anyway!!! (at this point she just started swearing, bless!)
And for they others, yes, I will rip the piss and be utterly flippant on occaision. If it amuses me. Or I see fit. No one owns the internet and if I need a little light relief by going troll-hunting. I shall!
Mwaahhaaahhaaaahhaahahahah!

May 19th, 2014 - 02:35 am - Link - Report abuse 0I'll call out intolerance where I see it. I stand by what I said. If you wish to tar all Muslims with the same brush then do so. However I won't agree nor ignore it. I don't blame Christians for all the things done by the Catholic Church. Just like I don't disbelieve evolution because some claim creationism is correct. If Obama does no identify as a Muslim then ignoring that because some intolerant cleric in a backward country says it is true doesn't change anything.
Anyway regarding your comment above, I was correct in what I said.
I also HAVE firsthand experiences FROM Venezuelans living in Australia.
Just like I read Ilsen's firsthand experience now. Hence the use of the word from. When I am regaled to stories and experiences from people, that is THEIR firsthand experiences not mine.
If I had used of then of course I could not claim firsthand experience. I never claimed firsthand experience, just their own.
I'm sorry if I upset you on the other thread but just because I agree with you most of the time does not mean I hold you to a different standard.

And Harvard just gave an award to Leopoldo Lopez for his effort to help the people of Venezuela. Bet that pissed the Madman off. And where is Leo? Why no news about him as he sits and rots in a commie prison?
