Barbados, a small Caribbean island at the cutting edge of the fight against climate change, will be hosting this year's World Environment Day, leading United Nations-wide efforts to draw attention to the plight of the world's small islands potentially in peril of being lost to sea-level rise. Another encore from CFK.
A new report by UNEP says that climate change-induced sea-level rise in the world’s 52 small island nations – estimated to be up to four times the global average – continues to be the most pressing threat to their environment and socio-economic development;...
Jun 06th, 2014 - 02:11 pm - Link - Report abuse 0This makes no sense to me... are they trying to claim that the sea-level rise for those islands is expected to be 4 times higher then the rest of the worlds rise?
How is that even possible?
And the UN wonders why people just don't take them seriously...
Presumably it has increased from the global average to 4 times that now? It's not clear is it?

Jun 06th, 2014 - 06:28 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Good luck with that.
“Research shows that by 2100, global warming could lead to a sea-level rise of up to 2 meters”
No it doesn’t, the latest thinking is that the Antarctic glacier as a whole would contribute 45mm worldwide (NOT a NASA twisting the facts “report”) so where the hell is the other 1,955 mm coming from?
As for the final paragraph, surely an example in hysterical forecasting. Some of the islands WILL be below water at some point, wouldn’t it make sense to migrate the population to somewhere else and save the US$ 187 billion?
The World has always undergone what seem to us cosseted animals as drastic changes and it will in the future. It remains to be seen whether the human race will be here.
I will be dead by then but I bet it WILL survive.

Jun 06th, 2014 - 10:40 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Well we know Britain won't be.
The UN is a front organization for a criminal cartel of banking and multi-national corporate interests.
Jun 07th, 2014 - 06:53 am - Link - Report abuse 0The UN is UN-elected, UN-accountable, UN-repentant, and now UN-popular with the recent rise of libertarianism in many parts of the world AND the sweep by the UKIP party in Britain.
Is this a new measure banning fatties from the beach?
Jun 07th, 2014 - 09:50 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The notion of rising seas swamping coastal cities is not from science - but science fiction.
Jun 08th, 2014 - 06:06 am - Link - Report abuse 0This is why spending billions on the twisted assertions of those at the receiving end of a global carbon tax (those keeping the public frightened) is a very bad idea.
@8
Jun 08th, 2014 - 02:14 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Well. If that's you view then ok. But I prefer to believe in the science. I can't see how trying to live a green lifestyle can hurt. 6 billion people pumping out and using huge amounts of energy MUST have a negative affect. Wouldn't you agree?
@9 We both believe that earth must be respected and our environment keep clean and free of toxins. THAT is the view of any caring, responsible being.
Jun 08th, 2014 - 06:20 pm - Link - Report abuse 0BUT we live in a world dominated by power seeking (incredibly wealthy) psychopaths trying to run our lives. They operate under a different set of rules - rules of war using deception, fear mongering, false flags, and propaganda. Real science is attacked. Dissenting scientists are ostracized and de-funded. The propaganda machine behind the carbon/global warming brainwash is a magnificent monster fueled by TRILLIONS in carbon tax revenue.
The TRUTH is that the SUN is and always has been the overwhelming factor influencing our climate. There is abundant evidence that the carbon dioxide connection to global warming - is a complete FRAUD.
Hundreds of millions of people will die IF the global warming LIE is successful.
And the worlds poor will be ever poorer as they struggle to pay ever higher energy costs while the Nuevo-Energy magnates earn ever greater wealth.
Jun 08th, 2014 - 09:27 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@11 Exactly! Affordable energy is vital for life, and prosperity of humanity.
Jun 09th, 2014 - 03:17 am - Link - Report abuse 0The insidious carbon tax compliance is a tool of the elite to thwart development, limit population, and keep a boot on the throat of the third world.
Canache? Thats a new one on me. Any info anyone?
