Jun 14th, 2014 - 10:41 am - Link - Report abuse 0Wow someone isn't going down well in history.
I don't think hiding is the appropriate response from a President.
Jun 14th, 2014 - 10:44 am - Link - Report abuse 0The extremists 'won'. I agree Elaine, the elected President should be ashamed of her decision not to confront the issue.
Jun 14th, 2014 - 11:02 am - Link - Report abuse 0What issue? The issue of having a football crowd shouting profanities?
Jun 14th, 2014 - 11:34 am - Link - Report abuse 0How very useful you lot are...
:)
Hiding from the very people she meant to represent.
Jun 14th, 2014 - 11:38 am - Link - Report abuse 0The shame of it.
Politicians are always heckled it goes with the territory...how many UK Govt officials have literally ended with egg on their face....
Jun 14th, 2014 - 11:46 am - Link - Report abuse 0Remember John Prescott...that's the way to go..he got a lot of respect for throwing that punch....
....face your demons.
Exactly. Politics is no place for the thin-skinned and people respect strong leaders.
Jun 14th, 2014 - 01:18 pm - Link - Report abuse 0As for football chants I remember Victoria Beckham saying in an interview that when she attended games they used to chant that she 'takes it up the arse'. No matter that her parents or children might be with her. She didn't react and didn't stop attending games. She wasn't in any position of power, or responsible for the dire conditions of an electorate. Dilma is.
I suspect Dilma will reconsider and attend more games. How would it look to be President of a country hosting a world event they cannot, in reality, afford and then not be bothered to turn up because someone said something mean to her.
If she does not attend any of the events she has so vigorously promoted she will look foolish, weak and wrong.
Jun 14th, 2014 - 03:37 pm - Link - Report abuse 0If she does attend the Brazilians will, (quite rightly in my book), draw attention the the failures and wrong priorities of her administration.
Tough call for Dilma. Hopefully she will have a massive re-think and pull out of the Olympics and spend the money on schools, hospitals, transport, housing and infrastructure instead.
There are many countries that could put on the Olympics with only 2 years notice.
”Olympic Games 2016: Sailing venue with floating corpses, dead dogs and toxic waste 'won't be cleaned in time', warn Rio bosses. The city has failed to meet promises on cleaning Guanabara Bay, despite sailors' reports of animal and human carcasses floating in the water. The Rio bay where the Brazil Olympics’ sailing competitions will be held won’t be clean for the games in 2016, the city’s mayor has said.
The city had promised to clean up the Guanabara Bay and reduce pollution by 80%, but the mayor admitted that it would not meet that target.
Sailors that have visited the site have described it as a dump, and reported dodging waste including discarded furniture, floating dog carcasses and even human corpses. But the country has said that the events will be held in a less polluted part of the water, outside of the bay or at its entrance.
The New York Times has described how Thomas Low-Beer, a Brazilian Olympic hopeful who sails in the bay, shuddered when recalling how he crashed into a submerged sofa and was capsized into the bay.

Brazil s violent indeed.
Jun 14th, 2014 - 04:48 pm - Link - Report abuse 0In two days only, Croatia and Mexico were robbed, while Spain was raped...
Dilma got what she deserved....the fact that she has decided to put her tail between her fat legs and run, is just a sign that she IS weak, and that she is NOT appreciated by the Brazilians who are capable of thinking for themselves. Exactly the same reason why the 9-fingered dickhead didn't make an appearance......but, as for Dilma ? She will not be missed.

More likely they took it as usual: bunch of no -hopers at virtually every level.
Spain 1 Holland 5
HA, HA, HA.
Back on topic.
Dilma is showing her real character here: ex resistance Cell Leader whose cell murdered an American Military Officer in front of his wife and children, but “she knew nothing about it” of course: so she was incompetent then as well as cowardly now!
Not really presidential material is she, despite all the bribes to the people (bolsa familia) and corruption condoning at government level, which usually marks a “good” president such as Lula, she couldn’t stand the catcalls and booing: did-ums, there, there!
You couldn’t make this scenario for a novel, never mind the presidency of the largest (and dumbest) country in SA.
Chris
Jun 14th, 2014 - 05:31 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Spain is the current cup holders, what are you talking about?
Just because a country won a tournament four years ago it doesn't mean they can do it again.
Jun 14th, 2014 - 06:16 pm - Link - Report abuse 0This match proves it.
Not a good start by Spain.
Congratulations to Holland.
Actually Spain started out losing with Switzerland in its own group in 2010, They will have to make a big goal difference with OZ & Chile

Jun 14th, 2014 - 10:47 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I thought Italy will win this comfortably, England to be fair would be a much better team if they could hold the ball and generate opportunities instead of having to rely so much on counter attacks. Uruguay was much to inflated considering they came to the world cup after playoff against Jordania.

Jun 15th, 2014 - 12:42 am - Link - Report abuse 0And what’s the point of inventing something you suck at??
The last time England beat somebody in a significant football tournament was Argentina 12 years ago!!
Euro cup 2004 and WC 2006 knocked out by Portugal
Euro cup 2012 and WC 2012 defeated by Italy.
No seriously im not bashing England for the fun of it (well not entirely at least) … I’m checking England’s records of the last 20 years or so and they are pathetic. They just don’t have it in them no balls
Just to start over in your own backyard Europe… Countries that no longer exist have won them like Czechoslovakia, West Germany and the Soviet Union.
Greece and Denmark have won them, England has never made it beyond 3rd place of 1968!!
Guess it's just lucky that Britain has invented several world sports then.
Jun 15th, 2014 - 01:27 am - Link - Report abuse 0Dilma's very kind in not attending as she is a big girl and takes up two seats, saves traffic jams in getting her to the game too.
Jun 15th, 2014 - 02:14 am - Link - Report abuse 0Seriously though Dilma can only blame herself for the chants against her, she and her party are screwing Brazil.
No, Dilma is good from Brazil. She builds, preserves, manages, ennobles, educates, love it ..... it's all good.

Jun 15th, 2014 - 02:44 am - Link - Report abuse 0If there was a British team ( as apposed to just England ), they might have done a lot better over time. Lots of great Welsh and Scottish players never played in a World Cup.
@40
Jun 15th, 2014 - 03:41 am - Link - Report abuse 0Maybe, but it’s not that they have bad players. No good captains, no good coaches, no attitude, no fiber. They have had always very good very well paid players, but they are incredibly weak minded and haven’t got that push that makes the fiber of champions and winners. They just can’t beat a medium or high ranked team if they are in the Euro Championship or in the World Cup. They dont deliver and collapse to the minimum preassure. Thats why they only do well on friendly matches
That match of today; after drawing 90 seconds after of Italy’s first goal; if it was any other reliable team with balls (like the Ivory Coast just did with Japan) in that circumstance would have turned the game or at least it would have ended drawing 2-2.
@41
Jun 15th, 2014 - 04:47 am - Link - Report abuse 0I don't know enough about the game to argue with your analysis - I only pay attention every four years - but if what you say is true, a few Scots might help. They never back down:).

(nossa! porque vc sabe falar Portugues, vc acha que vc e Brasileiro? - argentino mentiroso!!!)
Has anybody noticed that the Brazilians have the coincidence that only the richest fans like the Italians, Americans, English and Swiss play in Manaos, else nobody would go ???

I notice that the PSDB have pulled their heads in after initially jumping on this.
@50 Hippy, considering by whom the article in your above link was written, a confessed lesbian and a 'petista', am not one bit surprised that she chose to criticize the 'elite', as if they, in the VIP area, were the only ones telling Dilma to get f*cked.....I don't know whether you watched the game, or are basing yourself exclusively on the opinion of one very biased woman, but from what I saw, the chants against Dilma were coming from all areas of the stadium, not just the VIP area....but then again, regardless of what section of the stadium the chants came from, it's a clear sign that the Brazilians who are able to think for themselves, do not just cross their arms and swallow the shit that the PT governments feeds the people.....Living here and experiencing the day-today, is far closer to reality than basing one's self on a biased article written a 'petista'...
Jun 19th, 2014 - 04:35 pm - Link - Report abuse 0#50 where is the legacy for Brazil from holding the World Cup, I tell you it's nowhere to be seen. Stadiums finished at the elevth hour and tickets snapped up by people who have the money. What do the poor get for their troubles from a Government that is supposed to support them, the answer is nothing. You people are such god damn hypocrites because the first chance socialists get a chance to steal they do so too. They are all the same! Socialist parties keep the poor down by throwing them a bone occasionally for a vote every four years just enough to keep their interests served to stay in power, but care very little about doing the right thing for Brazil. Then you complain when in my opinion the attitude towards Dilma is well deserved, this overbearing dominace by Dilma and PT is strangling Brazil from ever prospering!
