Brazil disappointed with Argentina's 'lack of ambition' in reaching trade accord with EU

Full article 111 comments

Argentina and Brazil have again clashed not over football but over trade and Mercosur according to the Sao Paulo media. Brazil believes there is “a lack of ambition from Argentina” to finish polishing the proposal to be exchanged with the European Union for a much delayed cooperation and trade agreement. Only necessary imports are allowed so they can't have a free trade agreement with the EU. There's no U$ to pay for anything!
I said before Brazil will have to go at this alone and leave MercoSur or the other members will just ignore that they're breaking the rules to keep up the appearance of solidarity.

Brazil really wants this trade deal.

Argentina needs to accept that Brazil will get it. Without or without Argentina.

Doing so will be a major blow to Mercosur integration.

I can't see why the EU would want to strike up any trade deals with a group that includes Argentina, (and potentially Venezuela in the future), notorious as they are for reneging on deals.

Mercosur like most orgs in this part of the world is useless. And Fortress Argentina has stated many time that it doesn't need the rest of the world. Except of course to borrow money from that they don't intend ever to pay back because the outside world is one big extortionist.

Yes, it gets cold in Patagonia, and so it does in Cuyo and the southern pampas. We have firewood galore.

Food prices are going up ALL over the world. Argentina MAKES food. So its a zero sum game. It costs us more but it brings us more money.

Yes, she goes to grocery shop at the super Vea at Barrio Unimev or the mall, at the Wal-Mart or Jumbo down the road. I'm a man so I will NEVER cook. I will be rich to pay for food everyday or have women to cook for me.

Food can be brought in by train.

Fuel prices will probably come down with all the productions coming online worldwide. All the “Fracking” yankeeboy vaunts of, and the Brazil/Russia/Falklands finds will have the side effect of plunging prices. The greed of yankeeboy will prevent the disaster scenario he has been barking around for 6 years now.

Fuel? Yes, sometimes some gas station will not have fuel, but that happens everywhere in the world.

No I do not enjoy food from other countries. Argentina has all the food worth eating. Period, end of story.

I lost power on Saturday thus I could not post because when it came back the internet was bad. Big deal, I'm here now.

    Tierra del Fuego.

Yes, we own our house as do the vast majority of Argentines who pay no mortgage, pay no car payments, and don't pay insane health insurance premiums, and pay low taxes (either through evasion or benefits given back). Thus our lower salaries go much much farther.

Construction is slowed down but that's good to prevent bubbles.

    None of your business.

I'm in MENDOZA you dumb moron. VILLAVICENCIO, ECO DE LOS ANDES, DASANI. Of course the water is crystal clear.

    I have news for you:

    Civilised countries
    - do not have power outages
    - do not run out of fuel
    - do not have intermittent Internet
    - do not rely on firewood

“Construction down” - first sign of collapse, followed by:

    - lower property investment
    - lower property values
    - business failures
    - lower wages
    - lost employment

    - no jobs for youth entering the job market
    - maybe no jobs for Mummy's

    Add to this,
    - fuel prices are rising
    - food prices rising

    - fewer goods on the shelves in food stores
    - Walmart closes
    - smaller stores fail
    - MORE unemployment

    - maybe Mummy will lose
    - her job
    - her ability to buy fuel
    - her ability to buy food
    - her ability to pay for your Internet
    - her ability to pay heating costs
    - her ability to pay property taxes

    - SELL THE HOUSE to pay for
    Living Expenses.

    - maybe you can rent - for a while, anyway.

This is the funniest quote from TTT. He can't even cook. How can a person reach his teenage years and not be able to feed himself? What will he do when his mother dies? He has already said he doesn't have or want a girlfriend (even if he could find one that would act as his housekeeper) and he has told us MANY times that he is poor and proud of it. That he rejects money and the idea of being rich because all he needs is pocket money to go and buy some music. HIS WORDS.

I think we are seeing the root of his anger and jealousy. He can never have the life he craves. He will never be a man.

That is the tragedy of a lot of young people in Argentina today I suspect: no “real world” education, no jobs and eventually no mental stability.

My seasonal next door neighbour, the Argentine and his extended family, are very concerned that their two sons will not be able to go into the family businesses if things get any worse because they will have to close. He is already down to three out of the five businesses he had when I first met them and he was very concerned last January about the rest.

I suspect if it gets really bad for them they will get out and come to Uruguay to live like many thousands have done so far in the last 12 months.

    53. Ahh and there's more proof of the Idiotcracy that is Argentina. Every generation the smart and ambitious leave so all that is left is breeding with poor and lazy people creating even poorer and lazier people.

BTW the same thing happened to one of my Rg friends family over the subsequent crashes they went from upper middle class with multiple business and properties to downright poor by the time I met them. He was lucky enough to be the last well educated one of the family. His brothers are waiters.

Nothing wrong with being a waiter as apposed to sitting around collecting welfare or living off Mama. There were a fair number of restaurants when I was in Mendoza last year though more and more 'illegal' restaurants were opening up. All cash in hand and no tax to pay. Which is a major problem when everyone wants to take from society but no one wants to contribute.

I am going to show TTTs comments to my female Argentine friends. They would call TTT a loser for expecting someone to spoon feed him past childhood. You can understand why he cannot get a girlfriend.

    55. There is definitely something wrong with being a waiter when for 3 generations beforehand your family were professionals and business owners and through successive bad government policies each generation got poorer and dumber.
Their family is the epitome of what is happening through out the country. Successful smart people made poor by being honest. Luckily my friend was able to escape and move to the USA. The rest of his family is doomed to a life of servitude barely remembering when they were rich and educated.

So something doesn't compute, and I'm pretty sure it's the sensationalistic media.

    @66

@68 Where do you get your skewed idea of women? The only woman you know is your mother. She can't be a gold digger as she has to schlepp to the shops and wait on you hand and foot. Or maybe you think she is a failed gold digger.

You hate everyone that is not Argentine. You hate 50% of Argentines. That is a lot of hate for one so young.

For your information, in developed countries women can make their own money and don't need a man to provide for them. We even have women as the wage earners for families. Incredible, right? If only Argentina were that developed your tuck money would be safe.

The only salvageable aspect of that delusionally idealistic film is that the woman cooks. Everything else is just a wet dream, but exactly what you and the others “claim” life is in your EUian and NorthAmo paradises.

    @100

    8 words:

“The enemy of my enemy is my friend”.

But more importantly, while I totally disagree with the Jihadist goal, they are the only ones with the balls to take the fight to the streets of Europe and North America, and create terror and blood, which you deserve a bit given what you have done unto them and others, by bombing them from above for decades thinking you can get away with it.

    Read this:

    http://news.yahoo.com/iraq-risk-again-did-fast-071219768.html;_ylt=A0LEVx8d9alTPGoA3QtXNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTExcTdidDdsBHNlYwNzcgRwb3MDMQRjb2xvA2JmMQR2dGlkA1VJQzFfMQ--

“1916: The uneasy borders dividing the Middle East were set during World War I, when the French and English divvied up the lands of the defeated Ottoman Empire with little regard for religious or ethnic differences. Through wars and upheaval, the national borders they drew have pretty much held, largely by the force of autocratic rulers.

2003: A U.S.-led coalition invaded Iraq and deposed Saddam Hussein, and mayhem broke out. Saddam had ruthlessly held the nation together for more than two decades, favoring his fellow Sunnis while wiping out multitudes of Shiites and Kurds. Americans, flush with the fervor that followed the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, hoped to replace him with a friendly democracy. They met waves of bombings, massacres and kidnappings in sectarian fighting that peaked in 2006 and 2007, when additional U.S. troops began arriving and helped to temporarily tamp down the violence.”

95 NO one here ever said they wanted Argentina bombed by muslim extremists...in fact, I think most people here want Argentina to succeed as it should be able to do once the thieving politicians are gone.
Last night on Quest Means Business on CNN, an economics professor pointed out that Argentina has defaulted 35 times in the last 200 years. And that the worst vultures in the country have been the Kirchner family who have lied and cheated and become immensely wealthy in the last 10 years. All at the expense of the people of this country.

One thing the Rgs don't understand is that with all the 35 pas defaults there was someone there to eventually bail them out.
There's not anyone I can think of that will step up this time.
Argentina is too small of a country economically for the USA to be concerned and there's no fear that their instability will infect other SA countries, at least none that we care about.
Chile can obviously take care of itself.
So who's left, Brazil, does anyone think Brazil will lend them $U15-20B for them to recapitalize?
