    So their claims about the presence of British nuclear capacity in the South Atlantic are now countered by the phrase “a peaceful pursuit of nuclear energy”! What absolute bullshit - they are just copying Iran!

    Good God, no!
    Letting these plonkers fool around with anything nuclear is like letting a 2 year old play with petrol & matches.
    Oh my sainted aunt, hope they run out of money before they get started.
    Actually its an opportunity for the SAS, Seals, or ANY competent nation's Special Forces to get in there & destroy whatever the RG idiots are up to before they get too carried away.
    All their past bluster doesn't faze me one bit, BUT the very idea of the RGs playing with ANYTHING Nuclear frightens the hell out of me.

    The argies are going to make the fuel for weapons of mass destruction!

    If ever there was a REAL AND JUSTIFIED reason to destroy the facility before they can make anything useful, this is it.

    The trouble is it will never happen without the US and UK obtaining permission from the security council, so a rapidly deployed task force would be public knowledge as soon as China blabs it toi the argies.

    So we might have to upgrade it to a PLATOON of UK boy scouts to be sure.

    Just when you think these cunts can’t come up with anything worse to threaten any other country they come up with a GLOBAL threat.

    Isolde is absolutely correct in what she has posted.

    It could of course be a way to get the rest of us to pay them big bucks to stop.

    Good for Argentina!! I have said many times that they should go nuclear especially when you read that Margaret Thatcher was ready to nuke the city of Cordoba in Argentina if the war did not go her way in the Falklands/Malvinas war.........A couple of nukes in her possesion would make any foe think twice in nuking any cities in Argentina.....ummmmm

    After reading the disparaging posts of some “peaceful” and “friendly” islanders inciting attacks to installations civil facilities of a sovereign state without any reason (since all the Argentine nuclear program is being monitored by international agencies and by other countries such as Brazil) I understand the reasons why the Uruguayan Government considers the British Garrison a “treat” to the region.

    Not to mention the silly ones inciting nuclear attacks......

    No doubt as an anglo, you think all others will act like you.

    Argentina won't nuke you, the arabs will, and you quite frankly have asked for it with what you have done in Iraq, a WAR OF AGRESSION.

    @7

    Forget China, NO ONE will follow the US and UK after Iraq. HAHAHAHA, the irony.

    You deserve all the “fallout” (pun intended) your unprovoked aggression towards another sovereign nation will bring down upon you (pun again).

    @8

    I used to believe that but no longer do. Argentina should just develop a strategy to thwart a nuclear attack, a defensive shield of sorts, and also massive anti-aircraft ability. Make it onerously costly for the UK to attack Argentina when they try again to invade us in the future as they have done in the past trying to destroy us.

    Argentine would remain peaceful with nuclear power, right up to and including the day before they would use it,

    judging by there past action , history of aggression abuse threats intimidation imperial ambitions,
    they would use those weapons to either

    2, or destroy the islands

    The plant is slated to come on line with an installed capacity of about 750 MW (3% of Argentina's total electric installed capacity).

    Yes!! My thoughts exactly. But not to worry. The Argentine nuclear physicists have a secret tool to deal with any reactor problems: The Peso.

    The Argentine peso has already proven itself to cause any economic activity around it to cease if it accumulated in sufficient amounts. So the Argentine reactor techs will just stuff pesos down the reactor tank if there is any problem, in the assumption that all nuclear activity around them will cease as well...

    @42

    I'm new, essentially. I was doing some research into Argentine junk bonds some months ago when I came across these pages. Then I got to reading articles about the Falklands, and came across some quotes from various Argentine politicians, talking about the islanders in terms of “illegal squatters”, “implanted population” and so on. It sent cold chills down my spine because the only time in the past history when politicians have spoken words like that it was in conjunction with genocide or ethnic cleansing (Hitler, Stalin, Milosevic etc).

    As I read further into it I realized it wasn't just huffy politicians in Argentina - they have been indoctrinating their children and falsifying history books to create a frenzy in the general population about the islands and how the people living on the islands have stolen them from the Argentine Fatherland etc. Even more chilling parallels to really bad things in history past.

    And to top it off, Argentina is rapidly sinking into an economic and political mess that will be hard recover from. It is a near perfect parallel to events in recent history that ended really badly.

    At first I thought that maybe I'm just overreacting, things like that doesn't happen in 2014. But then the Ukraine crisis hit (again, eerie parallels) and I realized that things like that can indeed happen in 2014 if no one pays attention.

    So I felt I had to say something - I could at least put in some comments when people don't seem to see the problem brewing....

    As far as where am I from? Sweden actually, although at the moment I'm living in the US...

    @51

    Nice thoughts, actually, but it is not that simple. A hundred years ago, Argentina was richer and more prosperous than most countries in Western Europe, including Germany.

    What in the world happened?

    Did you run out resources? No, Argentina is one of the most resource rich countries in the world, and in the past century you have discovered even more resources. Where do you think the name “Argentina” comes from?

    So in 100 years you went from being richer than Germany to approaching the GDP of Zimbabwe and Bangladesh. All the while sitting on resources that most countries could only dream of.

    So what happened? It's called bad politics and mismanagement. You squandered your riches, simply put.

    In the meanwhile, on the Falklands, the people there have built a tremendous economy, well managed and prosperous. And they did so in the face of harsh weather conditions and a belligerent neighbor who tries to block them, embargo them, and sanction them at every turn. That is worth a lot in my book.

    So no, I don't think you should leave the islanders alone. I think you should invite them over to show you how to manage a country and an economy.

    You can laugh, but that would solve both the Argentine economic problems and the Malvinas problem in one shot.

    Something to ponder for your generation...

    Argentina has no resources left, which is partly why the decline. The other major reason is that all countries rise and fall. We rose, now we fall. It has happened to all nations, it will happen to all nations. But that's really irrelevant here.

    Name one country today that existed 2000 years ago.

    And no, we won't be inviting the Falklanders any time soon.

    “Argentina has no resources left, which is partly why the decline.”

    -Ah, yes, now we are getting to the heart of the problem. Argentina has more resources than ever. That you should not, is a myth perpetrated by your government to explain away all the gross mismanagement, and at the same time make all of want to take the Falklands “back” to claim “your” resources that “were stolen” from you centuries ago. It all comes together now, I see that.

    But that is what is so scary about this...

    “has more resources than ever”

    Says a guy in Sweden whose visit to Argentina on some afternoon in 96' was the airport transit terminal? Give me a break.

    Argentina has no resources to re-develop. Agriculture is not a resource in the 21st century. Mining is a drug, never provided true long-term development anywhere. Oil and gas are temporary and probably on their way out anyway.

    Argentina as a country is simply running is course out. Birth, rise, zenith, decline, temporary bounce, more decline, repeate process until final collapse (which is not this one, don't you all get too excited).

    Tobes, you know perfectly well it's not necessary to visit every nook and cranny of a country to have a good idea of what resources are contained within. And being confined to Mendoza hasn't prevented you from claiming you know everything about our 'decadent and doomed' anglosphere. Less impulsivity before you post leads to more credibility when you do.

    ”Argentina as a country is simply running is ( sic ) course out...”

    Fatalism might seem attractive to you and many of your compatriots but it is actually just a way of avoiding responsibility. There will always be ruthless people willing and able to exploit that passivity - your current govt being a prime example.

    Well, I would hope you know more about your country than I do. But you can't know everything, either.

    With 10 billion people to feed around the world, agriculture is a massive resource in the 21st century. But your government has to put in policies and practices to allow farmers to actually make money from their crops. Right now you're not doing that.

    Same thing with mining. It costs money to prospect any potential mineral field. Can't bring in $$, can't do it.

    Plenty of resources, massive lack of management skills to do it...

    A country like Argentina, that during the past 12 years has passed some of the best legislation in the world to return some dignity and territories to their ill treated Original Peoples…

    OK. So you do know something of your country's history. But let's see what you remember:

    “during the past 12 years has send more than 1.500 of its old fascist top brass behind bars…”

    Fine. But the social structure in the country that created the fascist brass in the first place is still there. Your government is financially starving the military because they know that a powerful Argentine military would claw it's way back to power.

    In 1982 you went all out to cheer your fascist top brass for taking fascist action against an innocent neighbor. Then they lost and you turned against them. So are you jailing them for being fascist or for not being fascist enough?

    And about the Swede with a diplomatic gene - what has that got to do with Argentina?
    Let's see if you have done your history lessons here: Dagmar Hagelin

    Så vet du vad det handlar om, käre vän...

    Given the design balls-up with the Aussie reactor that a second year mechanical engineering student would blush over, I wouldn't trust these “argie experts” (what an oxymoron) to take my dog for a walk without losing her.

    Their real problem is of course their superiority complex: they are better than anyone else on the planet, the problem is of course the planet they compare themselves to is Uranus.

    Dagmar Hagelin, you say...?

    That's more than it can be said about a certain Country who's State Minister (Olof..., PRESENTE!) was shot as a dog in the streets decades ago and whose authorities haven't done a ferking shiat to find and punish the real culprits...

    As you say..., the fascist social structure responsible for Dagmar's death is still here...... and we are fighting it every single day...

    I ride a big, powerful motorcycle in Uruguay, a country noted for poor support structures for those who motor on country roads.

    Being mindful of at least getting an emergency tyre repair onboard I have tried to find the aerosol “fix it and blow the tyre up” solution and after several months of searching I now have one.

    Guess what it says on the side of the can?
