An executive from the World Cup’s hospitality services firm escaped out the back door of his plush Rio de Janeiro hotel Thursday to avoid arrest on charges of illegally selling tickets, police said. Read full article
This is one man in a huge operation that has been involved in ticket touting for many World Cup Finals. Shall we have a guess at who we think is Mr. Big?
I suspect it is who he can implicate that is the real problem. He is caught between the Brazilian police and Don Sepp's mob. That would make anyone run.
His lawyers will be making a deal ahead of him turning himself in for further interviews.
So he's guilty on whose say so....the Brazilian Police...as I understand it, they resell tickets as part of a package.....
If I was guilty or not I would still run....reach a place of safety, then prove my innocence....
...or would I put my freedom in the hands of the uncorrupt Brazilian Police....
Scapegoat alert.....
The way it works here is the police first build the case, using rather far reaching but legal investigative powers, the results of which go before a judge regarding proceeding with the case or not, up and to indictment, and jailing pending trial, or not. This has already happened.
Mr. Whelan was brought in for an interview, then formally arrested, then released pending trial on his personal parole, and advised that famous line not to leave town. He voluntarily surrendered his passport, or at least one of them, depending on how many he may own.
Quartered in the elegant but old Copacabana Palace, he was not then considered to be a flight risk. That deference to an official of a FIFA-connected agency, may have been a mistake. When the judge then ruled on additional evidence that the 10 ringleaders should all be brought in again and jailed, someone with connections obviously tipped Mr. Whelan off.
A rather hasty departure on the hotel CCTV tape is hardly the action of an innocent man, which the Swiss-based MATCH services might want to think about before making any more comments. 50,000 wire-tapped phone calls, both domestic and INTERNATIONAL, of which only half have been transcribed, probably resulted in the judge's delay in calling for the 10 to be jailed. That amount would include a lot of names, from low to high-placed.
As I mentioned before, Herr Joseph Sepp ” Baltter, has been working with FIFA since 1971. The corruption charges against FIFA are increasing, almost weekly, and not diminishing, under his loose but lucrative management style. He might want to consider the merits of tending the roses of retirement, rather than pursue a re-election and possible charges and indictment himself.
And then again it could be that Mr. Whelan left early innocently enough, to practice for the musical at the Copa finale.
Rumored updated hip-hop lyrics may seem both familiar, and apropos:
Oh, there is nothing quite as wonderful as money
There is nothing quite as beautiful as cash
Some people say it's folly, but I'd rather have the lolly
With money you can make a splash !
Suggestions that Sr. Elvis Killoff would be singing a duet with Mr. Whelan was cancelled given the Capitalist-Marxist overtones of the tune, and the fact that he cannot dance.
