    Hang on don't we hear all the time about South American unity.

    Then again wouldn't a lot of Argentinians be only one of two generations removed from the fatherland.

    As England supporter I was right behind Germany. yay

    Argentina lost the World Cup final, but
    we, the holdout creditors worldwide, who have been suffering for more than a decade, are in each case the looser and Argentina is the winner, even if Argentina would repay all of OUR money. No one of the argentine government can imagine the suffering of the tens of thousend holdout creditors and their Families worldwide.

    A bit different to how politicians portray unity.

    At least Argentina did a hell of a lot better than England and they weren't defeated by 7 goals So they did pretty good despite losing the final. Just a Yanks opinion ;-)

    @5 I have to agree with you. Argentina got to the WCFs and it was a very close game. It could have gone either way but luck was not on the side of Argentina.

    Over the whole competition I think the German team played better. Just sayin'.

    I hope that one day Argentine people wake up to the fact that people in the world -the few that do actually get to know us- dont like us.

    Arrogance lack of manners, respect, good faith and lack of law abidance that ordinary Argentines portrait abroad is coming to haunt us back as a whole. Argentina is one of the most hated countries in Latam after the US.
    At least the americans can say the old Caligula quote “ let them hate us whilst they fear us” but Argentina without being a power, without having any influence, with out any reason for causing jealousy has just won its bad reputation out of its simple idiosyncrasy.
    Yet one tries to explain this here and they will always fall back and victimize....

    Sad and embarrassing for me.

    @9 It is called moving on and dealing with things. The Germany of today is not the Germany of 1914 or 1939, it is not even recognisable from those days.

    However, one cannot say the same for Argentina viz-a-viz 1982, except that HM Armed Forces pushed an Argentine Junta to collapse and the military to return to barracks, for at least 32 years, and likely much longer. A bit of gratitude might do wonders for Argentina's image.

    @9 Good grief! Why do Argentines live in the past? Is history taught as the present day in Argentina? I refer you to @11's response.

    @10 Don't be quite so hard on yourself. :) I like a lot of Argentines that I know well. It is also true that I have to shift my thinking when dealing with some of my friends there. They play by different rules.

    It is true that a lot of Central and South Americans do not like Argentines. If you ask them about rivalries it is always a neighbouring country and Argentina. Neighbours because traditionally there are rivalries and Argentina because of the arrogance they display.

    Not sure, but you need to factor in that Argentina, as a country, is pretty insignificant to most younger British people these days. They are likely not to have a full and current understanding of your presidents attitude towards the Falkland Islands or share the historical feelings.
    The British tend to route for the underdog so Argentina was probably well supported in the UK in that respect.

    @ 10 CabezaDura2 who wrote: “I hope that one day Argentine people wake up to the fact that people in the world -the few that do actually get to know us- dont like us.”

    In my experience you are wrong. The problem as I see it, is that the majority of Argentines who are known to the rest of the world are porteños.

    I have been living 6 months in Buenos Aires, and I didn't like the majority of the snotty and “superior” porteños I have met.

    I have also been living more than 5 years in the Argentine provinces and before I settled down I visited more than 20 provincial towns, and I really appreciate the friendly, helpfull and nice people in the Argentine provinces.

    I agree with those agradable provincial people, who wanted to build a “Berlin Wall” around BsAs.

    @29 I had a similar experience outside of BsAs. I actually witnessed an Argentine curl his lips at a group of his fellow countrymen. I asked why and he said, “Porteños, we hate them”. Apparently because they act superior, loud and rude.

    One time I stayed at an estancia near Cordoba and met so many lovely people. I returned a couple of years later with a porteños friend - a lovely lady - and the reception we received was frosty everywhere we went. It was bizarre and when I asked her why she said, “It is because I am from Buenos Aires”. I have since returned with relatives and had a great welcome again.

    That said, I think there is an element of resentment towards people that live in the capital in many countries.

    Mrs. ElaineB, pgerman, St. John : Haven´t you entertained any suspicion about more solid grounds for the “dislike” we breed in fellow Latin-American countries..?. Then, a few numbers: Latin America´s population is over 500 million. Argentina, only 40. There are 16 L.A. Nobel Prize Winners, and 5 of them Argentines (31%). Only five out of those 16 on Sciences: 1 mexican, 1 venezuelan, and 3 argentines (60% of these last). So the Swedish Academy has awarded Argentine scientists more Prizes on Sciences than those granted to the whole rest of the countries of the region. Eloquent, isn´t it so..?

    How many Nobels does Germany have more than Argentina has??...Why are the Brazilians, Chileans, Colombians, Peruvians all siding with Germany then??.

    This is exactly what I was talking about in #10... Your comments not only that they dont make any sence at all, but its also portraits the arrogance that Argentines display abroad which is unfounded it is if you are still living in the 1960s when Argentina was more economically, socially, technologically and scientifically advanced than the rest of Latam. The problem is that you still think and look down upon Latam countries as if we havent been completely overtaken in many fields. Your head has being stuck 50 years in the sand.

    To Cabezadura2 (¡bien dura!) . To answer your second question: Because neither Brazilians, Chileans,Colombians,Peruvians... (NOR ARGENTINES, OF COURSE!) will ever dream in comparing themselves with Germans in scientific ingenuity. Germans have always been on a higher plane with respect to the LATAM one. I suggest that, on this particular field, they may ENVY us because, were it not the case , they would LAUGH at us..!. But we TEASE them. Simple as that. I´m afraid you have chosen too well your nickname..!

    Cabeza Dura2: Relativity and Scarcity are here the KEY words. Yes, they MAY envy 3 Nobel in Sciences, if they lack them (disregarding the mexican and the venezuelan). Yes, if they come from a single country that encompasses only 8% of the total population. Yes, if besides they are aware that Argentina is also the sole exporter in the zone of nuclear reactors to both developing and developed nations. (OPAL reactor made for Australia). But these are only secondary reasons, because are only trifles for the developed World. My MAIN reason I have already told you: If not for envy, they would heartily LAUGH at our first-quality bombastic nature, and take it good-humorously, irksome as it may appear.

    ”Yes, if besides they are aware that Argentina is also the sole exporter in the zone of nuclear reactors to both developing and developed nations. (OPAL reactor made for Australia).“

    OH DEAR! Now you have picked on a subject close to my heart: the idiocy of the ”argie nuclear experts”, such an oxymoron that.

    Try researching the facts about the OPAL system in Oz:
    the cracks in the pool;
    the fuel carriers that had a design flaw that even a second year student in mechanical engineering would be embarrased about;
    the broken promises to the customer (less, I know as an argie you havn't a clue what they are);

    No, you will have to do MUCH better than that.

    But I did like the description: I COULD BE BOUNDED IN A NUTSHELL, AND COUNT MYSELF A KING OF INFINITE SPACE.

    That, of course, would be the empty space between your ears.

    @ 46 Argenfellow

    Firstly, I am not your friend, if anything as you seem to have the usual puffed up beyond all recognition Peronista personas, I am your enemy.

    Secondly, I live in Uruguay and detest what TMBOA is doing to my new country with her manic depressive character and overbearing opinion of herself which leads to Uruguay (population 3,286,314) being bullied by 40M idiots, utter cowards.

    Thirdly, I don’t care what comics you read or how you think it superior to others to parade what passes as whit for you on here: I happen to have studied Shakespeare and was actually giving you the benefit of the doubt as to your usage of the prose, an error of generosity that I will not repeat.

    Fourthly, I am a retired British Chartered Electrical Mechanical Engineer of international experience at the highest levels of management: not some oik from BsAs Uni. Another bribe in place to list it third in SA? That really IS funny. Since retiring I am undertaking a degree in Astro-Physics with M.I.T. (if your feeble brain has any idea as to what that is).

    FINALLY. You lack of appreciation of science has led you to an unjustified pride in what your despicable country TELLS you it can do whilst the reality is lamentable at all levels which is why you don’t get it about the Oz reactor, do you? Ask the Oz nuclear power people if they will EVER risk their lives and the reputation of the country by having anything to do with INVAP, but wear a motorcycle helmet whilst you do it.

    I am Brazilian and even after Germany defeated Brazil by 7 goals, even if their supporters had stabbed me after the match, I would still have supported them in their match against Argentina.

    Argentineans fans came to Brazil, urinated in the streets on purpose, dumped their trash on purpose, targeted Brazilian fans on purpose in order to mug their tickets, burned the Brazilian flag on Brazilian soil since the very first day of the competition.

    Not only the fans did these things, but an Argentinean TV CHANNEL was mocking Neymar (the main brazilian footballer) when he broke his back : http://veja.abril.com.br/noticia/esporte/programa-de-televisao-argentina-ironiza-lesao-de-neymar

    How can anyone let alone a national TV Channel mock someone for breaking his back? Argentina is the modern day Nazi Germany, not so modern though because even in those days Nazi Germany was way more modern than Argentina to be honest, but you get my point.

    That's why Brazilians, alongside other Latin Americans don't like Argentineans.

    We would gladly support the English in the Falkland Islands. Even if our government let itself be bullied by the Argentinean government into stopping ships from docking in Brazil so that the Islanders either accept Argentinean dominance or die from starvation because hey that's a what democratic nation does, isn't it? Accept our control or die! Just like North Korea is doing.

    We Brazilians feel, the British or Falkland islanders are better neighbours than Argentina will ever be.
