What the hell can Argentina offer this group with all of its protectionist measures. I'm sure it ticks all the boxes in the corruption stakes however. Maybe they are just holding out until that little matter of the default is resolved and widespread asset seizures.

”In Buenos Aires, earlier on Monday Argentine Cabinet Chief Jorge Capitanich pointed out that the BRICS summit is an opportunity to “reformulate international policies”.

So we can all look forward to The Dark Country giving the BRIC's lessons on lying, thieving, crying and wailing: but getting nowhere.

    HA, HA, HA.

The Bric bank if it ever takes off will be capitalized using the U$.
I don't see how a bunch of THE MOST CORRUPT countries in the world think they will have a successful bank.
The whole reason this is happening is because they feel slighted that nobody wants them running the IMF.
What a waste of time and effort.

” Both institutions are conceived as an alternative to Western control over global finances and to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB), lead by the US and Europe ”

In other words, US Dollar out, and a basket of currencies in.

Looking at Argentina and Venezuela poor state of affairs, that policy hasn't ' worked out for them very well.

One the other hand the $ 10 B USD in trade, agreed upon 3 years ago, is an easy target. In fact it will occur and continue on for many years

Overall, argieland seems to be looking at US$132 billion of debt. It may be more. Puts US$29.5 billion of reserves into perspective, doesn't it? So where does Capitanich get off talking about argieland's “strategic reserves”? Is he talking about how much they'd get if they sold the whole country? It can't produce or sell anything of note. Just look. Argieland exports a little over US$86 billion a year. The tiny little United Kingdom exports US$481 billion a year. The reality is that the UK exports more than 5.5 times what argieland does. And yet there are latam dumbos who like to claim that the UK economy is on the edge of disaster. In that case, argieland has already stepped off the cliff and is within feet of the rocks that will smash it apart. Britworker is right. argieland has nothing to offer. On the other hand, what could BRICS “take”? India and China always need cheap food. On the other hand, they also need places to dump their excess population. What will South Africa take? And what will it dump? And Russia thinks in decades, not years. And China thinks in centuries. Still, who cares? Argieland is thinking of playing with predators.

The BRICS bank is sitting right next to the Nicaraguan Canal on the “things to do” list.
Capitanich in today's “message of the day” rant referred to a new development bank because the capitalists banks are extortionists.......apparently because the expectation is to pay back the money one borrows from it. Seems like a novel concept.

With Russia waiving Cuba's debt and Argentina and Venezuela fighting for the new Cuban title, Asslips kirchner probably thinks Russia will be her savior.....but Russia is hardly in the position. The Cuban debt waiver from Russia goes back to the USSR. It was a foregone conclusion that it would never to be seen in Russian banks again.........great PR stunt......for the colossally stupid and trained ignorant.

The problem is that all these promises have happened before
NK in 2004 talked about Chinese investments worth of 20 Bn USD in 2004. Chavez talked for a decade about a “Bank of the South” and even a “Currency of the south” in which Brazil was the only one putting into the pot... I wonder why that never worked ??

“The BRICS bank, along with the separate $50 billion Asian infrastructure bank, is another way for China to get higher returns on its $3.9 trillion reserves than it does from buying U.S. Treasuries, said Oliver Rui, professor of finance and accounting at the China Europe International Business School in Shanghai, the favorite city to headquarter the bank.”

It seems Russia is trying to do in south America, what china is doing in Africa,

if it moves buy it, if not buy it anyway,
with a future portfolio of owning all the resources and wealth they can buy to use as future ace in the whole,

something we may all might live to regret,
    just saying like.

I just think Russia is running out of friends, and influence. Just trying to bolster its global presence. Desperate times indeed when one is seeking out Cristina as a bedfellow... (ahem!)

#10 I agree. And after murdering 295 innocent lives yesterday, they will need as manner friends as they can get. SA chooses some very anti-democratic friends. Cuba, Russia and China.

The usual fat slobs or families in power since the 1950's, will look the other way, or at the ceiling whistling, when asked about the Russian action in the Ukraine. Especially when all their past debts were recently written off.

“ Our dear Russian Compañeros indeed. ”
