The University of La Plata, province of Buenos Aires, is setting up a “Malvinas Institute” that will specialize in 'sovereignty policies' research, as part of the Political Sciences department. The new research and extension center will be located in a former military barracks in downtown La Plata which was ceased to the university. Read full article

Propaganda would probably be a better area to study rather than sovereignty policies.

Or perhaps they can hold their creative writing courses there.

    Blimey what's the count now?

    1 museum and 2 institutes!

    What next?

The university establishing a degree for the subject.

An MA in alternate history seems to be the appropriate qualification.

In this case I expect its just some canny underpaid academics who decided to exploit the government's attitude to the Falklands to get some more cash.

Essential RG university reading: Article 73 of the UN Charter; 4 UN ICJ Advisory Opinions and 1 judgement all confirming that the islanders have the right to self-determination; the erga omnes character of self-determination confirmed by the East Timor Judgment; international law on 'prescription' (long and uninterrupted possession) and extinctive prescription which means that Argentina acquiesced to British possession of the Falklands 30 years after the formation of the world court system in 1922 by not bringing their sovereignty case to arbitration by 1952. If any RG supporters are in doubt, ask yourselves why after stating that they (RG government) would take Falkland/UK oil companies to the international court in February 2010 nothing has happened? Yawn, still any doubts? Just ask the Secretary General of the United Nations, 'the 16 remaining territories that still do not govern themselves MUST have complete freedom to determine their own future status.' Now, if I were an RG tax payer...

Surely we can aid this multi-discipline “research”?

14 JUNE 1982. The date on which the United Kingdom won a war and established legal title to all the territories it “occupied”, viz: Falkland Islands, South Georgia, South Sandwich Islands and British Antarctic Territory. That's the REAL BAT. 20 degrees W to 80 degrees W. Never mind the latino claims 40 years later.

“The La Plata university is not as academically rated as the University of Buenos Aires,”

AND THAT IS? Ha, ha, ha.

“Last April Cristina Fernandez was awarded the honoris causa degree, in merit to being one of the most distinguished students of the university.”

But did they find her Certificate to Practice Law because nobody else can? Ha, ha, ha.

“The Journalism school at the university is also known for developing the so called 'militant journalism' brand,.....among those who were awarded the Rodolfo Walsh Prize at this particular school are Venezuela's Hugo Chubby Chavez now rotting in hell (if it exists), Ecuador's Rafael Correa (my dad was murdered by the Yanks even though drug trafficking is not illegal) and Bolivia's “Cowpat” Evo Morales.

Just when you think they can’t come up with any more “Malvinas” cowshit from the old cow herself, TMBOA, they do!

Not only do they create lies, fairy stories and myths, they also invent false historic events in their desperate attempts to obtain sovereignty of the British territory in the South Atlantic but now they are creating university courses to study all these lies, etc.

Can somebody tell me on which planet of our universe does Argentina exist?

“Our idea is to make Malvinas an important studies issue in all disciplines: from geography, to history and human rights”
Geography-maybe they get this but they can't quote history properly and the human rights of the inhabitants don't count.

No first with honours-maybe a third at best.

”for scientific research in several disciplines including that to help recover our Malvinas Islands”.

Science seems irrelevant here-and discipline? Do Argentines know this concept?

Maybe a third if the invigilators misread the uni work.

“The 'Malvinas Institute' will be an executive unit for research, development, transfer and innovation in 'sovereignty policies', directly linked to the recovery of political sovereignty, economic independence and territorial integrity of Argentine insular territories, read the proclamation.”

Excellent comedy, as funny as Will (Inbetweeners) being chased by a turd down a water slide.

    LOL-@1,@3,@7@8 and

@9-yes, but on arrival at the Uni denial syndrome will see you arrested on a trumped up charge of assisting the Falkland Islands oil industry-enjoying a free ride in a Ford Falcon

@12“ But did they find her Certificate to Practice Law because nobody else can? Ha, ha, ha.”

    Words from mouth.

@14 “Can somebody tell me on which planet of our universe does Argentina exist?”
    Yes-Neptune
1/- Blue with a bit of white but the smiley emoticon is a long way away.
    2/- A gas giant.
3/-Winds are over 1000mph but not of enough density to turn a wind turbine.
4/-Plenty of inflammable gas available on Neptune but it's icy cold.
    More metaphors anyone?
    LOL-@17 and

@20 “And of course, the essays will never end with.

“And they all lived happily ever after. ”

That's not ever going to happen.”

That's because every essay will end with a blank white page waved in the air.

Perhaps it would be more useful to make Argentina an important studies issue in human rights. After all, many argentines had their human rights permanently breached in the headquarters of the Argentine Army's X Mechanized Infantry Brigade.

Are there any other countries in the world, which are so obsessed by their “lost” territories as Argentina? And, in this case a a very small and insignificant territory, which has only been under this country's control for very short periods. And never had any Argentine population. Germany, for instance, has fully accepted that it will never get East Prussia or Silesia back.

    #34

I think Germany is a special case - they effectively knew that they had done wrong and the loss of territory was in a way some little form of redemption.

Bolivia still demands parts of Chile back all the time and Venezuela is keen to annexe all of Guyana. China wants Taiwan and various small islands.

I think the difference is that the Falklands are still perceived to be a colony of the UK (even though we know they are not) and thus “easier” to acquire to some extent. Personally, I hope the Falkland Islands move toward full independence but with a relationship like the US shares with Micronesia, the Marshall Islands, and Palau. In reality, this would only be a change on paper, but the Falkland Islands could better defend themselves politically if they were a sovereign member of the UN.

Not in the least bit surprising, because as a nation, they are NOT normal.
”What are the odds that students will be prevented from studying historically accurate facts and only selected legal precedents.“”...
I'd say the odds are about 100 to 1 ....because if they studied only the facts, and not the fake nationalistic rhetoric that's bound to be invented, the first graduates would start to question the sick obssession the Argie government has with regards to the Falklands.

Madness! Never has so much time and effort been wasted on such tenuous claim. There is something seriously wrong with the Argentinian psyche.
Possibly the university would be better off spending its time researching and therefore attempting to understand the Argentinian psychological condition. Why are Argentinians so obsessional about a bunch of islands 250 miles away from South America? Maybe they could explain the mass Argentinian cognitive dissonance occurs whenever real facts or international law is applied to the Falkland Islands? I mean seriously their entire attitude is hysterical and utterly without logic or facts to back up their stance. There's a PHD thesis out there just waiting to be written.

    'sovereignty policies'

Are there ' several' policies on sovereignty that Argentina can relate to the Falklands , other than 'give them to us, they're ours' or 'you must negotiate to give the Islands to Argentina.' (which is the same policy)?

Though as dialogue when mentioned by Argentina, actually means monologue, there should be a type of google translate that scans Argentine created texts.

”This university would be more gainfully employed by analysing (Cognito @40):

“ the mass Argentinian cognitive dissonance occurs whenever real facts or international law is applied to the Falkland Islands?”

Their language department could spend many happy years analysing the words, demand, dialogue, militarisation, democracy etc etc etc.

“Human rights”. Interesting. The Institute must of course find out that putting the Falklanders under Argentine rule against the wishes of almost 100% of them will be a clear violation of their human rights.
