If the Scots do decide to go independent, which is their choice, I wouldn't be surprised if there is a sigificant upswell in support for independence in Orkney/Shetland. Would a hypothetical SNP ruled Scotland give them a vote? Fat chance.
what honour is there when 2-3 million Scots go to a referendum to destroy the unity of one of the greatest nations that has walked the earth!!! Catalan vote wont happen - and if it did it too would either be a no, or a brief independence shortly followed by collapse of Catalonia.
Catalonia should be promised a referendum by Spain at a more prosperous time. A phail would follow at that time and that will effectively extinguish their movement.
SNP went too far in one leap - should have played it out, devomax now and independence in a decade or two.

There are +/- 8 million people living in Catalonia.
If +/- 500k do not agree with their own Carta Magna, the first step would be to vote to change it, or to vote for an amendment and not the declaration of independence per se.
