A leading Scottish business group has called for the country to unite to drive Scotland forward, whatever the result of the independence referendum. The Scottish Chambers of Commerce said the outcome would leave a substantial number of people disappointed. Read full article

Marcos,
Sep 16th, 2014 - 03:57 am - Link - Report abuse 0your wit is ...remarkable.
yawn
Seriously, at this point I would vote no.
Sep 16th, 2014 - 04:18 am - Link - Report abuse 0London has promised so much devolution that they are in effect creating a mini-Euro zone, where you have one currency, but three different people that write the budget (England, Scotland, and Wales). That won't work long term, so as an Argentine who obviously has in the United Kingdom an enemy, this scenario would weaken the UK long term.
For Scotland it is a short and medium term win (basically almost all of the advantages of a free country, with few of the disadvantages), and they can still go it alone long term.
London is kowtowing way too much and it will hurt them long term. But it is a sweet deal for the scots. As much as the courageous choice is yes the pragmatic one may no longer be it after the latest round of promises.
Whatever the outcome, well done Scotland for making Cameron cry.
Sep 16th, 2014 - 04:31 am - Link - Report abuse 0Why don't you fuck off back to Argentina, you obviously don't like it here.
Sep 16th, 2014 - 06:09 am - Link - Report abuse 0What's the matter? You have nothing to be afraid of, it was your old man who applied for asylum here! You won't be arrested!
Marcos- What do you know about Scotland in reality then? Nothing do you - so why not shut up stop making a fool of yourself and restrict yourself to issues between your country and its neighbours - of which the islands are one.
Sep 16th, 2014 - 09:25 am - Link - Report abuse 0For your interest in the last 6 years a Scot has been in 10 Downing St and another has been Chancellor of the Exchequer in London for the same amount of time as an Englishman has. For the last 16yrs the major elected political party in Scotland has been the UK Governing power for 13 of them.
Some rule from Englamd! - you idiot.
None of the small shop owners will divulge their leanings either way at the moment, for fear of boycotting and intimidation....

All the while, he will only say that he is a non-scot who lives in a fictitious village by the sea, his paranoia tilting at every fishing dorry or flotsam, going by.
Like bagpipes in the fens - sad and alone.
For what it's worth, scotchland is standing on the very brink. From its very inception, mythically 843, it has always tried. In the late 13th century, England its proper role by 'selecting' the King of Scotland, John Balliol. From 1295 to 1560, scotchland tried the Auld Alliance. However, even an alliance of scotchland and France couldn't defeat England. Scotchland became so successful that, as late as the 1690s, it was still experiencing famine that reduced the population of parts of the country by 20%. In 1698, the scotch tried an ambitious project aimed at matching the English (trade) Empire. It failed. As usual. And so scotchland joined with England. It slowly came to understand, during the 18th century, that England was essential to prosperity. Weaseling their way into positions of power in politics, civil service, the army and navy, trade, economics, colonial enterprises and other areas across the nascent British Empire, the scotch finally became useful. The 19th and 20th centuries see the scotch come to believe in themselves, even though scotch industrial capability is largely organised by England. The early 21st century again sees scotchland aiming for 'independence' despite the warnings that gas and oil revenues will not be what it expects, that there will be a 'capital flight' and that many businesses will leave scotchland for England. The 'leader' of the independence movement denies every fact that does not suit his purpose. In the years following 'independence' the scotch slowly came to see all the warnings come to pass. Expenditure on welfare increased as more and more of the scotch came to believe they has an inexhaustible 'piggy bank' in the North Sea. One of the mainstays of scotch industry, shipbuilding, came to an end. Defence and electronics industries move south of the border to join shipbuilding. Scotch people find they cannot get jobs in England, being foreigners.
Sep 16th, 2014 - 09:01 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I love Voicey...he's such a dumb moron.
Sep 16th, 2014 - 09:02 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Month ago he was boasting how Scottish Independence would damage England and pay them back for some highland Clearences or Culloden or some such.
But the result of him and his ilk....Scotland ripped apart at the seems, families threatened, lies, kids bullied, and the country broken....and it's just the start.
And all the stupid moron can come up with is that Troy and I are the same poster....stupid prick even gets that wrong.
Poor Stupid Voicey.....

Sep 16th, 2014 - 09:31 pm - Link - Report abuse 0With him, it's a classic case of cut off your nose to spite your face - probably the sort of thing that's dogged him all his life.
His curmudgeonly ways might be worth a little amusement if he possessed any degree of wit or humility - alas...
A lost cause, I expect he's been angry all his life, at the English, women, and those who are undeservedly better off than him.
I just had a great weekend holiday in Canada - boating, swimming, golfing, BBQing thick juicy steaks - smoke salmon for breakfast...
...far better than Voicey sitting in his own pee, looking at his computer through the bottom of a Scotch bottle.

I was thinking of an isolated place, no same person would go.
You would be all alone there, wailing...
much like here.
Do you see the analogy?
Let me spell it out for you again:
You make a lot of unpleasant bellyaching noises. Not many people hear you. Fewer listen to you.
I know a couple of people, well I should say one, that misses Riverview Hospital in BC.
Sep 17th, 2014 - 03:59 am - Link - Report abuse 0ts odd that Voicey cant tell the difference between a Canadian Tro Tempest and an Englishman, me.
Sep 17th, 2014 - 11:03 am - Link - Report abuse 0Perhaps he is so utterly retarded that the Scotch has addled his brain...or maybe he doesnt meet many foreigners in his pure-blood Utopia.
For info Voicey, I've only ever been to Canada once, for a single day in 2000, Windsor Ontario, south of Detroit over the Bridge...
Never mind...after tomorrow, England will still exist as will Canada, but no matter what they vote, Scotland will be divided, bitter and broken for at leat a generation, probably longer.
Families against families, businesses against businesses, kids against kids...what have you and your ilk done Voicey...
youve fucked it up......VOTE YES...I dare you...cretin

My country has been
broken by the hubris
of Alex Salmond
Kenneth Roy
I'll give one example which I know to be true. I have no doubt there are many others.
In a small town in central Scotland –a couple put a No sticker in the window of their house. A neighbour – a woman they 'knew' – came over and said: 'Oh, I didn't realise you were moving home'.
'We're not,' said the man, surprised. 'Well, you will be after we win,' she told him. 'You won't be welcome in this street.'
I hold the first minister personally responsible for such intolerance. Had he chosen to utter a few statesmanlike words months ago, the nastiness of the present mood could and probably would have been avoided. He chose not to utter them.
I won't be staying up. By 7am on Friday, we should know whether it's raining money or raining cats and dogs. Who cares? The country I've lived in all my life has been broken by the hubris of Alex Salmond.
