@1. Four UN ICJ Advisory Opinions, one UN ICJ judgment, 2 UN Covenants all state or confirm that 'the right to self-determination is applicable to ALL non-self-governing territories. The 1995 East Timor judgment stated that the right to self-determination has an erga omnes character, this means that it is to be respected by ALL states. The vote taken in the UN General Assembly on 17 October 2008 that rejected a motion sponsored by Argentina and Spain to have restrictions placed on the right to self-determination where there was a sovereignty dispute confirmed that the fight was an inalienable human right. The 2010 Kosovo ICJ judgment confirmed (para 80) that 'the scope for territorial integrity was limited to the relationship between individual states and did not impinge on the right to self-determination.' To 'implicate' that Gibraltarians or Falkland Islanders do not have the right to self-determination is pure fantasy.

    Its a start,
    unlike the claim of Spain,

    Deep Spanish hypocrisy
Golden rule: When your government is deeply unpopular, do something populist. If there is a rock, or group of islands off the mainland that is “owned” by someone else, demand it back and you get votes.
But whatever you do keep schtum about your own Moroccan rocks like Ceuta and Melilla, or a region you stole from indigenous peoples like Patagonia.
Because to mention those old lands you stole would expose deep hypocrisy

This is ONE BIG JOKE. We are talking about Mr George Holding..ladies and gentlemen. This so called Mr Holding disgraced the house floor last year . You see ladies and gentlemen..Mr Holding was overseeing the house floor WHEN HE FELL ASLEEP!! YES!! FELL ASLEEP!! Overseeing means he should have been controling the debate and to be in charge...but the old fella..well..he fell asleep.LOL. This is the type of people Mr Picardo has been mouthing with..

It is well known that resolutions are brought forward when a congreessman sees fit to bring it forward. The way it works is that you GIVE SOMETHING TO THE CONGRESSMAN for him or her to take it to the commitee.now..that SOMETHING we can all imagine what it could be..Mr Picardo goes across gives him the SOMETHING and George Holding and company draw up the resolution which WILL NEVER MAKE IT PASS THE COMMITEE OR BE DEBATED IN THE FLOOR OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES..BUT MR PICARDO WILL BE JUMPING UP AND DOWN YELLING `GOODY GOODY !! MY GIBRALTAR HAS BEEN MENTIONED´while George Holding and company walk away richer than they were a week ago.................................

@1. No. You're the joke. Or is it 'british bummer'? Or some other 'name' you 'think' might help. Ever tried overcoming stupidity? Here's the deal. Argieland starts, Britain finishes. Next time you might lose 6,000 instead of 600!
@8, 10. But the Chief Minister isn't 'jumping up and down'. He's a lawyer. Perhaps if you understood politics and the world.

    BRILLIANT!

The Dark Country WISHES it had backing like this: they only rate being bollocked by US Judges and told to pay up or else.

Ha, ha, ha, ha, (you get the gist).

Wow how upset is our Spanish poster getting over this.

To be told continuously that no one supports the British position and then find people do.

I know. Time for character assassination.

Gibraltar has been slowly increasing its international profile especially over the past several years. They don't need anything to happen now but slowly over the next decade or two the momentum and profile will become unassailable by Spain.

Then Spain can look back and asked where they went wrong just like Argentina does now.

Gibraltar has a plan while Spain just reacts.

Whether this leads to any immediate action from the U.S. or not, it's good to see acknowledgement of Gibraltar as an entity in itself, and entitled to Self-Determination.

Gibraltar and the rights of the people there, are now in the public consciousness of the U.S.

US News agencies can now report on “homegrown” opinions of the legal status of Gibraltar, from their own politicians.

There is likely to be more cooperation from the U.S. as an ally, as they need their most trusted friends, UK, Canada, Australia, etc., to rally alongside them.

Perhaps Gibraltar will be used as a reliable military staging centre?
Spain's concerns by comparison, look a bit inconsequential at the moment.

    14 niño

Living up to your name, I see.

    That was pretty childish.

You can rant on all you want but you can't dismiss the fact that it is solely up to the people of Gibraltar to determine how and by whom they are governed.

http://en.mercopress.com/2014/09/24/eight-us-congress-members-table-resolution-in-support-of-gibraltar-s-right-to-self-determination#comment353706: It is a fact that, for a politician, to earn George Will's disapproval is a goal worth achieving.

When I read this story I did not bother to check the bill. So I'm surprised to learn of Grayson's involvement. Grayson is one of the better members of the FL delegation.

I often see Alan Grayson in HP - including this post:

    http://en.mercopress.com/2014/09/24/eight-us-congress-members-table-resolution-in-support-of-gibraltar-s-right-to-self-determination#comment353706:

Given the George Washington quote it is difficult for me to see how the interests of the US are served by having any opinion on the status of Gibraltar. This is a contest between two decrepit European powers over a part of their rump empires. Alan Grayson, and the others, should not try and involve the US in this sort of eurotrash rubbish.

    27,
the USAuses the spannish port and gibralter,
but apparently accordingly if the usa or any onther navy uses the spannish port, they are not allowed to visit gibralter or vids versa,

if this is correct,[someone will tell me ]
then one can understand why the US Navy would rather use Gibraltar than Spain.
    ones thinking..
