Argentina must explain to Judge Griesa why it is not in contempt of court

New York district judge Thomas Griesa has asked Argentina to show cause and explain why the country should not be declared in contempt, following its decision not to pay holdout investors full amount for their defaulted bonds as the judge’s ruling ordered on August 8. Read full article

    It's one thing having Singer chasing the money you owe (including the money you've stolen and laundered), it's another having the US law enforcement agencies chasing it. If Argentina are fined and do not pay, it won't be too long before some secret Kirchner US bank accounts get made public.

    I don't understand why Kirchner, Kicillof and Capitanitch think they can make the statements they have without being 'in contempt'. I suppose Kirchner could claim 'exemption' as head of state, but why? She should be the first criminal. Argieland IS in contempt. It has tried to use its special position as a 'state' to evade a court order. No honest state does that. Get on with it, Judge. US$53 million in the Bank of New York Mellon. Take US$50,000 every day.     Like yankeeboy, I also think Griesa should give the successful complainants the money presently in BoNY Mellon and fine The Dark Country U$D 50,000 per day.

    This would mean TDC would have to put adequate money with their lawyers to pay the fine because we all know TMBOA will NEVER settle the debt as long as she is president. Failure to pay would then put TDC into deeper contempt; the usual action for which would be to jail the miscreant.

    Who (personage) would be the miscreant in a sovereign country? TMBOA, CaptainDismal, Kickitoff, Gollum or who? I suspect Griesa would have to attach sovereign diplomatic assets to expunge the contempt: wouldn’t that be fun?

    As Griesa knows that any contempt fine would be ignored, he would be within his rights to garnishee the deposit in BONYM and continue to do so until it is depleted.

    Then Argentina's claim that they made the payment in good faith but were blocked would be proved false, because their refusal to comply with the law caused the deletion of the deposit.
