The Argentine government is so touchy. Any utterance by any government that doesn't toe the official line is shouted down.

US Courts and Argentina deserve each other. Neither is respected.

Good to see Exxon has struck oil in Russia but can't exploit due to Ukraine. BP should swap its entire US assets for Exxon's Russian assets. Russia is a safer place to do business and no Judge Barbiers either

Foreign Minister Hector Timerman said sanctions will be applied if Sullivan’s behavior is repeated, as the government considers Argentina is not in default, as it has “honored its debt”.

    lol, good luck with that!

“We don’t think the conflict [between Argentina and holdouts over the country’s national debt] is between our two governments. . . . ”

Of course it is. One country - rotting rotting - seeks to ignore the laws of another country - the U.S. - to which it willingly and contractually subbrogated its self to.

It is by the goodness of the government of CFK that Argentines have those three unspeakably precious things: freedom of truthfulness, freedom of conscience, and the prudence never to practice either of them.

    (My apologies to Mark Twain...)

Marco Rubio pointed out that there isn't a healthy democracy now several weeks ago...while Obama's apointees ignored his concerns and brushed off his statements on lack of freedom and lack of respect for property. Now this stooge Jacobson comes out with too little, too late nonsense. It's too late to save Argentina from famine. Too late to save Brazil from depression. Timerman speaks on Behalf of Argentina as if he won a valid election. Cristina speaks on behalf of Argentina as if her model wasn't buying votes and creating a famine long term. They don't have a functioning democracy. Kicillof when he says the Pope is on their side...just shows that Timerman, Kirchner, Kicillof, are all the same religion and treat their nation like a joke. They play the role of hot headed patriots in these rants..but they are safe with the dollars in the freezer and the condos in tel aviv.

Timerman is about as welcome in Israel as Adolf Eichmann. He is a disgrace to his nation, his respected family and his race. The “condo” you mention in Tel Aviv is more likely a jail cel in the Negev desert.

Mauricio Macri has criticized the Foreign Minister Hector Timerman.
“We went out into the world and in a couple of hours we had a fight with the United States, Germany and the Jewish community”

“After the speeches of President Cristina Fernandez in the General Assembly and the Security Council of the UN with criticism of the United States, Germany and the Jewish community, Macri said that 'quarreling with everyone has no future for Argentina.' ”

Thank you for the excellent post.

“Mal”, contestó De Narváez al ser consultado sobre cómo veía el futuro en materia social y económica de la Argentina y alertó que si la “Presidente no deja de buscar todos los días un enemigo imaginario y el país se pone a trabajar en serio” para frenar la inflación y generar empleo, “el panorama es oscuro”.

The quote says pretty much what he problem is...

“Foreign Minister Hector Timerman said sanctions will be applied”

    What sanctions?????????????????

(Malvanistas help out with this one).

The withdrawal of foot and mouth infected beef?

The withdrawal of pesticide poisoned lemons?

The refusal to pay back money owed (err you're doing that already)?

I'm still thinking about this.....the refusal to supply the US military with Pamper Jet trainers (with Russian ejector seats)?

Refuse to send the US any financial aid?

Putting a ban on CFK going to New York so she boycotts trade to the shoe shops and plastic surgery clinics?

The refusal to help with the fight against IS?

The refusal to send text books and souvenirs to US Universities on how San Martin and Belgrano saved the whole Americas?

A ban on US tourists to Argentina?

No more of CFK's fortune going to US bank accounts?

The refusal to allow US oil companies to drill in Dead Cow and later nationalise them?

I bet on hearing this news Obama's staff went into a cold sweat and woke him up in the middle of the night, so he could give Timmerman's 'demand' his instant and undiluted attention.

“Argentina is not angry with any other nation; what we do is to defend our interests,” he added.“

Ask your people Gollum, if they think you are defending Argentina's interests, or think you are sending a potentially great country down the gurgler.

“We don’t think the conflict [between Argentina and holdouts over the country’s national debt] is between our two governments. It’s something that has to be solved in court and it should not affect our bilateral relationship,” she added.”

That sentence could be effectively edited to:

    “we don't think.”

What is the point of Argentina attending any court in the US, before they even attend they are telling the court the will not abide by any decision that is against made them.

Argentina says U.S. contempt sanctions over debt would be illegal.

I think the contempt order is more symbolic than anything. Any monetary fines is futile, I think any trade based sanctions would be illegal so I am not sure where any of this will go. I believe that is why Griesa stopped short of defining a penalty because he himself needs to research what he can do.
