US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger drew up plans to “smash Cuba” with air strikes nearly 40 years ago, government papers obtained by researchers show. He was angered by Cuba's 1976 military intervention in Angola and was considering retaliation if Cuban forces were deployed elsewhere in Africa. Read full article

    Cuba was smashed in Cuito Cuanavale. You just don't hear about it because its all Apartheid period and the Cubans spout their communist propaganda anywhere.

    The Americans were handicapped politically to support the Southafrica, while the USSR openly supported and paid for the Cuban intervention. The US had to just support Savimbi UNITA undisciplined guerrilla force instead.

    There was in the late 1970s a US support for a South NATO alliance against communism in the southern cone engulfing Argentina, Southafrica and Brazil. Fell short.
