Each of these men make me proud to be British. America said we couldn't take the Falklands back, Russia said we couldn't take the Falklands back, but no-one asked these guys !

apologies for the typo. Bloody phone! All respect to those serving on board HMS Clyde.

Ahh! The Argentine moth is drawn to the British flame once again. Irresistible for you eh, paul-carrion? Perhaps you should ask the noble Falkland Islanders if they wish to integrate with a bunch of losers?

As a UK tax payer I can think of nothing better off our shores to see our money being spent on.

You know why the UK military is in the South Atlantic. It's all thanks to your dirty rotten little governments for the past 30-odd years. But as usual you Argies try to blame someone else for your own trouble.

tip: if you want to make any sort of valid point on here and be listened to, first you have to make a valid point.

I think that you are getting him confused with someone who is capable of making a valid point. This guy is a rock thrower, not a point maker.

According to the article above, you seem to be doing a pretty damn good job of it yourself, “ Clyde regularly exercises with both the Army and RAF in order to maximize UK's combined capabilities.”

Not bad for an old boy!

I'm quite sure that their is a substantial land based air defence system on the islands by now, with the addition of the what is likely to be under the surface of the sea and the RAF Typhoons. These naval patrols i'm sure are more one of reassurance and additional to the established defence capability of the islands.

@9. I'm sure that the Islanders don't want to be 'integrated' with south america. Why would they want to regress to the 18th century? Although 18th century was far better than 18th century spain. Did I say spain? Of course I did. No argieland in the 18th century. A 200-year aberration. Fortunately, it's about to kill itself. Want to try some realism? The FALKLAND ISLANDS aren't in south america. Have you not understood that yet? The FALKLAND ISLANDS are in the South Atlantic. Which part of south america thinks any allusion to 'south' implies any sort of 'ownership? I wonder how South Africa would respond? That part of the world (unfortunately) called south america should be working hard to raise itself to the level where it could be considered for integration with the Falkland Islands. It would be refused of course, but it could try. Just think, a government composed of shepherds, fishermen, tourist guides. What a vast improvement over the current criminals.

The purpose of the warships is that they can get stuck up argie asses. And that of anyone else with similar ideas. Just think of a British fleet submarine stuck up an argie ass and firing its cruise missiles. Let's all just stop and enjoy that image. And once the argie 'head' had been blown off, the sub could go on to do the same to all the other south american irrevelancies. Can anybody provide a reason for things in south america to exist? Argieland, Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela. What purpose do they serve?
@15. Just keep things quiet. Don't even think of the submarine base below the surface. The underground hangars. The concealed missile silos. The anti-aircraft and anti-ship missile locations. Wonder why it's taking so long to clear minefields? Where are all the sites? What missiles does the UK have that can target places as much as a thousand miles away?

Going by this article alone, does this mean the UK has greater operational naval capabilities in the South Atlantic than Argentina?
No wonder they want to talk! What else could they possibly do?

It is a comfort to many around the world that the RN can keep Argentine beligerence in check.

Whereas I am in no way denigrating the courage and capabilities of “La Légion
étrangère”, you do realise that they are a mercenary force raised to fight in French colonial wars. I thought that this was something of which you profoundly disapproved, but, again, you cherry pick whatever suits you at the time of posting.

That's NOT what you meant by real. What you meant was that the Royal Marines bandsmen and the massed pipe bands were no better than pop bands and could not be equated to real soldiers. I will not bother detailing a bandsman's duties in war situation but it is considerably more dangerous than playing music.
I was going to post some videos of the Marines and Scot's guards in the Falklands but I will spare your embarrassment.

    This will suffice.

Question for anyone on here that might have the answer: I read recently the RN was going to be taking possesion of 5 new patrol ships. And that one of these was already slated for the Falklands. What the article didn't specify was whether it was going to replace HMS Clyde or complement her as an additional patrol vessel on station there. Does anyone know the answer to this?

    Probably in addition to ……
As we want to build up our forces before we invade Santa Cruz Province.
(well its ours, we settled there before the Argentines fought, raped & plundered their way south from BsAs).
