The number of homicides per year in Argentina dropped from a peak of 4.630 back in 2002, but this did not impede that in the following decade that figure totaled, 31.992, according to official stats from the country's Healthcare ministry. Read full article

Number of murders in the UK in 2012/13 was 662
Number of murders in Argentina in 2012 was 2888

The Argentinian posters are always telling us what a murderous society Britain is.
The statistics would seem to show something different.

Direct correlation with the Economy there. Ever heard of the 'parallel Pound' or the 'Blue Sterling'?
    Nah, thought not.
Sounds like these teenagers do not have much faith in the government's economic policy, nor much confidence or hope of a brighter future.
Another symptom of Kirchner sickness. A nihilistic youth.
Time to leave the stage Chrissie. .. you are ultimately responsible for these deaths.

You don't want to be in Venezuela right now either then. Approx 25000 violent deaths last year. ..
... oddly enough they have four different exchange rates now.
    My observations stand up.

If I remember correctly they changed the definition of homicide a few years ago, that rate doesn't include anyone murdered by a relative, spouse or lover those are classified as crimes of the heart or some such nonsense. They also left out some other classifications but I can remember what they are right now.
Its easy to lower a stat when you change the definition.

The list of violent crime in the UK includes common assault.

While all assaults are unpleasant, common assault includes a credible threat of violence that wasn't carried out, spitting at someone and hitting or pushing someone without leaving an injury or mark. Affray can include violent disputes between 2 people in a public place, even if neither party is injured. Many more minor crimes have been recorded since the practice of issuing police cautions have been introduced. If an accused person admits to a minor crime then they receive a police caution. The crime is recorded and goes into the crime stats but the case never goes to court unless the person commits another crime within a year when they are prosecuted for the new crime and the old caution.

Large elements of the violent crime statistics in the UK would not even be reported or recorded as crimes in other countries.

    Paul,

I have looked at your evidence from the Daily Mail stats., during the 13 year Labour government, and compiled in 2009.

I hope you know that 'homicide' is different from 'violent crime'.
My wife hit me once - this was a violent crime, but she did not kill me (that's why I can write to you now.).

    The trending homicide figure in developed countries is down;
in under-developed countries like Argentina, the trend is up.
We should not be surprised by this, I think.

@7. How unfortunate for you. The most prolific murdering country in Europe is Russia. Specifically, 13,120 in 2012. In Europe, Ukraine, France and Germany come next. Worldwide, Brazil is the worst. South Africa is 6th. Then Venezuela. Then the US. Argieland comes in at 35th. The UK is 76th.
@12. That article is 5 YEARS old. Why don't you research the figures for 1066 AD? There would have been tens of thousands of intentional homicides that year. Try the years 1939-45. Your nazi pals were trying to murder everyone!

But criminologists say crime figures can be affected by many factors, including different criminal justice systems and differences in how crime is reported and measured.

In Britain, an affray is considered a violent crime, while in other countries it will only be logged if a person is physically injured.
There are also degrees of violence. While the UK ranks above South Africa for all violent crime, South Africans suffer more than 20,000 murders each year - compared with Britain's 921 in 2007
    .

why are you lot so naive and brainwashed?
it reminds me when they say there are no poor people in britain cause they have another system to measure poverty and blablabla.

the fact is that britain is one of the most violent countries in the world and that includes murder.
and the fact is that they have the biggest number of people living under the poverty threshold in europe

add to that their inefficient healthcare system and their high IMR and you have the ONLY west european country that belongs to the third (3rd) world.

welcome to the 3rd world, britontos.

The number of homicides in Argentina is consistently under-reported by at least 1100/year, or about 20-25%; because of the large number of cases that the police record as “death by unknown intentionally external aggression”;, which are not even recorded as homicides. This is most likely done simply to mislead the public; and it is a travesty, particularly for the young people, whom are overwhelmingly the victims that are unceremoniously dumped into this statistical wasteland.
In Canada, for instance, ALL murder, manslaughter and infanticide is included in their “homicide” total; which is now less than a third of that of Argentina, even with their skewed statistics (and the fact that every third household in Canada owns a gun).

I must live in a different country from the one of which you speak.

Good God,I am terrified to go out for all the dead bodies lying unattended in the streets and murders happening at every street corner...or is that Argentina?

We are poorer than Bulgaria, Romania, Spain,Poland etc? Why are they beating down our doors to get into the UK if it is such a shitty place. It must be better than the place they live..

Our healthcare system is not as good as Argentina's ? You could do with getting care in one of our hospitals for the mentally unstable as there is obviously something wrong with your mental state.

If we are “3d world” then Argentina will have to improve drastically to even qualify for a 10th world status... somewhere about Somalia or Yemen.

Paulie, below is an example of the difference between the UK stats and Argentina Stats, if you can film yourself committing an armed robbery and not be arrested for it, then one assumes your crime stats may be a little out of kilter.

    Enjoy the read

    http://www.buenosairesherald.com/article/172640/la-boca-motorcycle-thief-arrested-for-resisting-the-authorities
Gastón Aguirre, who found fame online and on local TV last month after he attempted to rob at gunpoint a Canadian tourist in La Boca while being filmed, has finally been arrested but not for anything related to robbery, he was accused of “resisting the authorities.”

Buzz oh he was arrested for the filmed armed robbery. However he was let go because it was a violation of his human rights to earn a living.....albeit robbing. Go fucking figure that one out. @40 No one is saying that Paulie, it is merely to point out that one countries reporting of crimes will vary to an others, so you can't compare apples with oranges. So stats can be mis-interpreted. The Uk knows it has a problem with violent crime, but it would seem strange that the UK is 13 or 14 in the homicide ranking in Europe according to your link, yet 1st in violent crime. To me that suggests the criteria for what constitutes a reportable 'violent crime', may differ from country to country.

Interesting you call 'us lot ' brainwashed and incapable of recognising and fixing our errors, just take a look at yourself in the mirror, look at your government and then your governments over the last half century , and you think we have an issue!
