Oil means nothing unless you have a competent government to utilise the wealth.

    Just ask Venezuela.

Maybe time for Rio to think about going it alone. It already loses the largest amount of its contributions to the federal government.

No chance of Rio, or even sao Paulo for that matter , going it alone. A couple of years back, more or less, the Federal government decided to change the rules whereby , to cut it short, the non-producing States would end up with more revenue than those in whose territorial waters the extraction occurs, and which have borne most of the costs to make it possible. This attempt by the Federal government to 'redistribute' the wealth, was seen as a form of deviating money to the States under the control of their cronies, i.e., the north and northeast, and faced very strong opposition from Rio and SP, but apparently to no avail. I am not 100% certain, but I don't think there's much chance of changing the status quo.

    @ Jack Bosta

You know nothing about Brazil !!
São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro are the States that has more benefits in Union.
It's the most industrialized and export their products to the other states. What does create jobs! Further, collect the tax on the consumption of other states through the application of ICMS.
We advocate that Congress make tax reform to correct this incongruity.
You give overwhelming evidence of his stupidity and little knowledge of the world around him.
I believe that you do not live in Brazil. I do not believe there is a person in my country as dumb as you!

“I do not believe there is a person in my country as dumb as you!”

I'm passing the hat around for a mirror.

You actually supported my argument. There would be no distribution if they were independent.

Distribution of Oil? The oil that you see in Rio is 5% of the oil that exists in the North!

    Name calling again.

No Youtube clip to back up yet more claims of yours.

Well then, the North won't miss Rio if they leave and keep their oil for themselves.

    Thanks for making my argument.

Not much point in talking to someone with an underdeveloped brain, but anyway, as to my living in Brazil, I couldn't care less what you believe ; as to the dumbest person in Brazil, that's a difficult one...after how many dumbasses, besides yourself, voted for Dilma Dumbo Ass ?

  • Hepatia So you want Brazil to emulate Exxon, a corporation which is heavily subsidized by the US tax payer, which has impoverished tens of thousands and which has caused some of the worst pollution in the US. Some how I don't think that this would be appropriate.

We subsidize lots of industry in the US via tax mortgage interest deductions for homeowners.

Oh yest.........2.90 a gallon for gas../.....and the lowest levels for heating oil. Now you people in Argentina want to give to handouts to people and have them forego work instead. Tell me about like in Argentina without soap and razors after P&G is gone.
