The Antarctic ozone hole reached its annual peak size on Sept. 11, according to scientists from NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The size of this year’s hole was 24.1 million square kilometers, an area roughly the size of North America. Read full article

Nov 09th, 2014 - 01:06 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Ultra Violet radiation, cancer damage, crop damage - it would be better if this can be avoided.
I have been a beach person and year round sun absorber all my life. Have never used sunscreen and have only had a few and minor Basil Cell infections during my 75 years. I regularly visit the Dermatologist for yearly check ups and when I do I see Lily white patients covered with clothing and hats from head to toe and coated with sunscreen avoiding the sun completely. They are covered with bandages from recent operations of skin cancer. My belief is that the whole skin cancer, sunscreen, stay out of the sun thing is just a made up scam. When this ozone hole thing started the tanning companies panicked and quickly changed their production to sunscreen at a great expense. I would not be surprised to find out that when the scam was revealed they lobbied the AMA, NASA and supporting scientists to keep the scare alive so that they will not loose even more money changing back to tanning oils. The whole thing looks to me like a big money manipulating operation with the Tanning companies being the winner and the general public the looser. Oh by the way - the sun is our main source of vitamin D that builds up our immune system (that combats cancer cells and other viruses and diseases from infecting our bodies). See ya later I'm off to the beach and SUN!

:-)
Well as long as CFK don't fall through it, it cant be that good.

Those of us who who understand statistical modelling also understand the term skewed sample.
Nov 09th, 2014 - 08:16 pm - Link - Report abuse 0We have one above.
Nice to see: “Year-to-year weather variability significantly impacts Antarctica ozone because warmer stratospheric temperatures can reduce ozone depletion,”
So global warming (cross that out), climate change, (cross that out as well) etc. is still as accurate on predictions: like NOT.
Hi Chris.
Nov 09th, 2014 - 10:45 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Temperature and ozone breakdown seem to be elevating UV and melting the Antarctic glaciers and ice sheets.
If it looks like a ****, sounds like a ****, and smells like a ****, it probably is a ****.
And do I need a mathematical model to give it a name?

Nov 10th, 2014 - 10:48 am - Link - Report abuse 0Mmmm! Did you not read the article from Chile which has blamed the local increase in ice sheet temperatures (because that is what it is) on the very bad earthquake in 2010? Plenty of hard, actual data collected from the ice to support the conclusions.
BTW it isn't only the earthquake, the underwater heating (no UV or climate change effects there) has been proven to be melting the ice sheet from underneath which is leading to ice free gullies acting almost as pipes for the warm water to spread furhter throughout the ice sheet.
No mathematical models involved just plain old practical site resarch (above and below the ice) and data collection.
No crap there, I promise.
I am surprised you missed it though.
Of course I am aware, Chris,
Nov 10th, 2014 - 01:11 pm - Link - Report abuse 0but I thought we were talking about the darstardly ozone-UV issue.
Additive shit happens underground also.
I have no idea where some of you get your information. The latest info that I have received is that the Artic Ice is decreasing but the Antarctic ice is growing. This is a common occurrence that systematically happens on a very precise time schedule and is not a result of global warming.
Nov 10th, 2014 - 07:59 pm - Link - Report abuse 0As far as the Ozone hole goes it is constantly moving from the northern hemisphere to the southern hemisphere and visa versa on a yearly cycle. Actually it is not even a hole its just the thickness of the Ozone Layer and has been so for thousands of years. Please do some scientific research before making such remarks.
