Good chap this Swire. Vital, active, involved and very pro - business. Certainly covers a lot of ground. Last time I heard, he was in the Caribbean. He has also been encouraging greater trade with Chile and Colombia as well. Obviously knows what he is talking about then!

British companies drilling their oil and printing their money for them.
    Not a chinaman in sight.
    Jolly Good Show!
Carry on Squires, you're doing a damn fine job.

Just think, Paraguay, argieland and brazil steal the electricity you generate. I say 'steal' because of when the price was fixed. 'Fixed' being the operative word. My electricity bill keeps going up. How's the price argieland and brazil pay for your electricity going? Isn't argieland moving a nuclear reactor close to your border? So they can release fallout whenever they want? Or will they just explode it? All without any consultation. Argieland tries to insist on Uruguay 'consulting' over a pulp mill and doing whatever it's told. Not to mention lying about pollution. Why are there so many braziguayos in your country? Are there any argiguayos? Any of either legitimate?

“The UK’s links with Latin America go back a long way. We were the first country to recognize the independence of many of the Latin American Republics that gained their freedom in the 19th century” said Swire.”
Chile recognises this fact. Just Argentina that is so ungrateful.

    Very impressive, this Mr Swire.

    Thank you too Troy.
Lots of positive attribiutes here. Really good potential future co-operation with both the UK and the Commonwealth Nations.
Unfortunately both Arg & Ven will miss out on these oppotunities due to their blindsided political doctrines.

Still, there is hope for other countries, that have both their doors, and their eyes, open.
Lip-service to Argentina is a given, but we all know that when it comes to money and trade, Lat Am is best buddies with the UK.
    'nuff said.
    :-)

    @8
He is not coming to Argentina. He is politely ignoring you. Remember that he is a busy man. Making it clear to Sweden that they can not sell any Gripens to Argentina.
    :)

So then his charge should be: minister of Latam, except of Argentina and Venezuela.

UK Minister FOR Latin America, Hugo Swire has responsibilty for UK trade with the whole area, and that includes trade embargoes for those that with harm to British interests. So, no Gripens for Argentina.

Why is Filmus not making a fuss about the Brits drilling for oil in Paraguay like he has over The Falkland Islands?
No snarky letter to the leftie Guardian?
    odd.

Nobody sensible is doing business with, or investing in, Argentina and Venezuela at the moment.
All the smart money is going to Chile, Colombia and Paraguay. Peru is getting some interest as well.
Hugo Swire is doing a great job.

    “ungrateful”

Argentina and Britain are enemies, been to war with DEAD people on both sides at least 4 official times... that changes things 'slightly'.

    4 official Wars?
    Please do list them.

Ps. The article is about Paraguay and the UK. There is more to life in South America than bloody self-obssessed Argentina! Other countries do exist, dontcha know?

I have absolute faith that this will hasten the day that the yerba plantation slaves will be freed and your humanoid plague of locusts will be rolled out of Chaco, Formosa, and Missiones. ;)

    @16, 18

And who dragged Argentina into this article????

Let's see, for those with Alzheimer's. Quoting verbatim:

“Chile recognises this fact. Just Argentina that is so ungrateful.

    Epical Epic Fail.

    weak, tobi, very weak response.
The Magnificent Mr Swire said “The UK’s links with Latin America go back a long way.”
has Argentina finally dropped off the planet?
    4 Conqueror mentioned Argieland
malen could only focus on Argieland
So not really an “Epical Epic Fail.” then? Just more of your hyperbolic hubris?
Nevermind eh? You just can't compete.

Meanwhile Paraquay grows, and you sink into the abyss, or should that be 'abscess'? Argentina, the rotton tooth of Lat Am!
    lol!
    needs extraction....
