    “It is a symbolic case for Brazil,” Dilma said. “This will change forever the relationship between Brazilian society, the Brazilian state and private companies.”

    I don't know what the Brazilian society, as a whole, has to do with this corruption, as the benefits of such acts (of corruption) only reach those in Government and and some top executives in a few private companies.
    What HAS to change, is the relationship between Government and the State companies..IF Petrobrás were privatised - just 51 %, to avoid the government from interfering - there would be no reason to bribe anyone.....the company , besides performing it's mission with regards to the clients / consumers, would work to make a profit and remunerate it's shareholders...as any normal company should do. As it is, Government controlled, it's just a nest of corrupt politicians, and executives appointed by them, who manipulate the company to attend their own dark objectives.

    Rousseff has started off in the right direction!! If it weren't for government involvement in such a cash cow only a few people would reap the rewards of the oil industry. Oil is a national asset that belongs to the whole of the people not the few. Look at the stock markets on a world basis, private, yet every few years some of the crooks get nabbed at the expense of hundreds of thousands of pensioners. And those are the ones that get caught.

    Good for you Rousseff, muito obrigao.

    Seems the USA is has something Brazil wants. What worked for her constituents will not work so well in DC. Good luck making this happen Dilma. You started the music but we will finish the dance.

    As long as Dilma has the balls to do what's right - that is, NOT interfere with the investigation, not trying to cover up, and not allowing other involved parties to get off the hook, she might just come up a notch or two on my scale of respect...
    Time will tell how sincere she is, and whether she will allow the Federal Police to do their job and get their hands on the true culprits, and punish them in an exemplary manner....But that is not all...what about the billions that have been deviated from the company ? when will the shareholders see this money that's been stolen from them ??? That'll be the day !!
    Dilma, the ball is in your court...let's see what you do with it.

    Any news on the money from Petrobras to fund Morales campaign, (allegedly) ? Did it happen? If so, are 100% of the electorate, (and therefore the owners of Petrobas), entirely happy with this use of THEIR cash?
    Did they have any say in this? Who else got a 'kick-back' from this slush-fund?

    As a nationalised company surely we should be told?

    If true, is Morales election win totally legit? (unfair advantage/Brazzo sponsorship?).

    murky.....

    Ola Ilsen -

    Way back when Lula came to power, Veja ran an article explaining how $ 5 MM USD was flown from Havana to Brasil, showing the stops made along the coast.

    At first this too was denied, but the pilots names, flight plan, and finally a witness identified and corroborated everything.

    I suspect that rather than the PT, the same method was used to ferry cash to Mr. Morales, but directly from government development funds. How that was derived, co-mingled , and packaged will appear once again in a future edition of Veja.

    @6 Ilsen....Don't think you saw my post in reply to yr question, under headline “Stats bash Rouseff...”....here it is :
    @5 Ilsen
    Thanks Ilsen.
    Re Petrobrás, Dilma - and Lula, who controls the her like his sockpuppet - decided to send Morales US$ 434 million, referring to a clause in some contract negotiated between Petrobrás and Bolivia during Lula's 2nd term, whereby it was left to the discretion of Petrobrás to pay Bolivia some type of bonus....for what, is not very clear, but without a doubt, it was not a debt and did not have to be paid. BUT, knowing Lula's friendship for Morales, the former instructed - through Dilma - to make the payment. The fact that it was totally unnecessary, was not taken into account by the PT government. That's why today, Petrobrás' finances are in the red, with no short term perspective to get into the black.
    As a nationalised Co. shouldn't the people know ?? the answer is most definitely YES, but what can you expect from a socialist-communist ideology-driven government, such as the PT's ?

    Latest news on the Petrobrás corruption scandal....suspicions that the amount stolen could reach R$ 21 billion (twenty one........)........and Dilma, who was Company Chairwoman from 2003 to 2008, knows “absolutely nothing about it”....and of course, neither does Lula, who appointed the Company's previous CEO, José Gabrielli. And the PT appears to be 'extremely satisfied' that (perhaps) R$ 165 million should be returned to the company by 5 of the whistleblowers... Still $ 20.835 to go...

    And Jack, the people of Brazil still support her? If the USA had government owned enterproses such as Petrobas, this would definitely be an impeachable offence with her being at the helm. I find id hard to believe this just started. This had to be the SOP.

    @12 Captain,
    The 30 million people who are on handouts, are by definition, ignorant...and lazy. If they weren't, first of all they wouldn't remain in the programme (bolsa familia) for more than 2 or 3 years....most have been sponging off the taxpayer for 10 years....second, with this life-long UNconditional benefit guaranteed by the PT, these people believe the (untrue) rumours (before every election) that if the PT loses, the benefits will dry up ; so yes , 'those' people support the fat B....along with the others who do NOT depend on handouts, but for some unfathomable reason, share the same disgusting ideology.......but in the last election, she won by such a narrow margin, that she can't be feeling too comfortable right now....especially with the Petrobrás corruption scandal all over the news - and the 'petistas' who aren't totally stupid, might be rethinking their unwavering support....and I sure hope that the US investors in Petrobrás, which account for about 20% of the controlling shares, go all the way in demanding that truth come out and that the responsible parties pay for their crimes.
    @13 Ilsen
    Don't mention it.
