Before any smart-arsed trolls points out any Irish heritage of either men I suggest they check the time-line of British history.

Equally the Royal Navy and the Chilean Navy continue to co-operate on many levels.
As you say, Long May This Continue!
As you well know, besides Chile's grand British historic traditions, including our naval academy and uniforms, the Almirante Cochrane, the Almirante Lynch, the Almirante Condell and the Almirante Williams all were former warships of United Kingdom whom all have been lovingly modernized and maintained as a part of our fleet.
Thank you for the links and the reading suggestions. No, I do not have a copy of the book as yet but now ( with your recommendation ) I shall seek out a copy and read it.
I was however, aware that many Royal Navy warships end up being updated and then sold on to Chile. The last one I heard about was HMS Sheffield ( F96 ) which was sold and re-named Almirante Williams by Armada de Chile.
Just shows what friendship can achieve, doesn't it?

Dear toooldtodieyoung,
Nov 29th, 2014 - 01:01 am - Link - Report abuse 0Chile and the UK have a long and impressive history of co-operation to the mutual benefit of both.
HMS Grafton (F80) was a Type 23 frigate of the Royal Navy. She was the ninth vessel to bear the name, and is named after the Duke of Grafton.
In June 2005, it was announced that Grafton would be sold to the Chilean Navy . She was delivered to Chilean Navy on 28 March 2007 in Portsmouth and renamed Almirante Lynch (FF-07) after Patricio Lynch.

You may already be aware of such characters as Bernardo O'Higgins and Lord Cochrane (The legendary 'Sea-Wolf'), amongst others, who assisted Chile in their fight for independence against the nefarious, Catholic Spanish Colonialist Conquistador rapist plunderers and slave-masters.
If not, a quick internet seach will put your right.
Also, I have much enjoyed;
