A BBC crew is currently filming in Tierra del Fuego a documentary on the wildlife of the Beagle Channel Islands. The crew is escorted by an observer from the provincial government and according to local officials it had to sign a document by which when the material is edited it must clearly establish that it was filmed in Argentine territory, with support from local authorities. It all sounds so paranoid having to have an observer like the old Soviet Union but I suspect it is more about ensuring the safety of the BBC crew from the terminally dense mobs in Argentina that read something into nothing to feed their victim mentality.

As the population of the Estado islands consists of four marines on rotating duties, according to Wikipedia, Elaine B, it would probably take even longer to get a terminally dense mob together than it took the B.B.C. to get permission to go. It's more likely that a local naturalist took the chance for a free visit - and why not?

Funny how you hold the BBC to tragic events that happens five decades ago, but no one can hold Argentina to tragic events that happened three decades ago.

Given the alternative (an internationally watchable BBC wildlife program going out with the standard news boilerplate for places that BBC news has been banned from (usually the less savory end of the middle east and/or whichever African dictatorships they've last exposed the human rights abuses of), which looks really bad) and them filming in Chilean Tierra del Fuego instead, then for a change it looks like common sense might have just about won out. For a change.

I'm confused, is the BBC filming the RG knuckle draggers or what? Is it their tyre burning ritual, their rock throwing ritual, intimidating pensioners ritual, or their habit of retreating fast at the first sign of any trouble ritual?

Twenty BBC current or former employees have faced total of 36 allegations since October, FOI request reveals”

    I like BBC´s wildlife shows.

I don´t get why they wouldn´t mention that it was filmed in Argentina.

A guide is perfectly understandable, specially if they are going to shoot in a protected area.

Somebody should really calm down out there ...

These special procedures are only done with the British, and no one else, with good reasons.

Makes sense, since no other country attacked Argentina twice, let alone three times. Also no other country (except Chile), has consistently tried to claim Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego, as Britain and British do, based on “rights of settlement” (which is absurd). The BBC would most certainly have filmed there and then claimed it was either the Falklands, Antarctica, or even Chile.

One must take all precuations and safeguards to protect Argentine territorial integrity from British cupidity and expansionism.

Toblerone is back! Warning, may contain nuts (although its doubtful whether he is old enough).

The last Anglo invasion of Argentina consisted of three ageing Brit twerps lampooning Argentina for their last abortive invasion of the Falkland Islands in which they were soundly defeated by a much smaller British force and ran away. Just in case you were wondering…

Wow the Maggot of Mendoza is back with its peculiar version of history. Its pupation into a warble fly is obviously delayed though its practising for its new transformation where it can really warble. Some of his tawry gems.
Napoleón invaded South America. The only incursión of Napoleón was his exile to the south Atlantic island of St Helena so presumably thats Argentine terretory to according to its warped reasoning.
Britain claims Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego by right of prior settlement. Is that in the Argentine history books too? A new one on me.

@18 Do I have to teach history again? I told you several times..why don't you read serious history books?..

I don't see any issue in being assisted by an scientist and observer since they are working in an enviromental protected area. This is common all around the world. I can remember now when a Red Bull documentary was shot in “Parque Nacional de Los Glaciares” and they were, all the time, being screened by National Park's people.

In addition, Isla de Los Estados has an incredible history since the Argentine government ceeded it to Luis Piedra Buena, a sailor and explorer, in payment for his services to the nation and for having save lots of lives rescuing people of shipwrecs. The UK government wanted to buy it to him but he refused to sell it to a nation other country and finally he donate the island back to Argentina. Would you imagine the kind os dileme we would face. if on top of everything, the Isla de los Estados were “under dispute”...

The Argie Bargies have got to do their level best to try and distract everyone from the truth. Argentina is a highly racist society. Day after day it becomes more and more like North Korea where every foreigner, especially journalists has to be accompanied by a 'minder'. Things are sooo bad that they are petrified that 'foreigners' will film things and assemble them into a documentary showing the place up for what it is, a subjugated land controlled by gangs of government thugs. Argentina is currently ruled by gangsters and criminals who have appointed a mindless Evita substitute elected in rigged elections where the poor are openly bribed to vote for her. This shameless old harpy intends to be suceeded by her criminal son in the worst tradition of evil dictatorships through further bent elections. At present he runs a Hitler like so called 'youth' organisation that is deployed to supress freedom of expression. Added to all that a large proportion of the population live in tin shacks and scrape a living by clearing up piles of discarded plastic and cardboard at night. The country lurches from financial crisis to crisis and is regarded as a pariah nation by civilised countries because it is trapped in a spiral of debt from which no one has the nous to extract it.

The BBC could make a documentary covering Argentinas malaise and the powers that be are shit scared that they actually will do so, hence the 'minder', just like those found in North Korea. Perhaps they already are in a covert and secret fashion. They have done it before, thats why the Argies are bricking themselves.

On Mercopress Argentina employs trolls like Pauly, Toby, Marcos, and Stink to distract everyone, but… . it doesnt work!

@24 can I ask what your problem would be with the Islanders banning the entry of any ship flying the Argentinian flag? After all this is exactly what Argentina has done to all ships flying the Falkland Islands flag.
@22 yes there was some terrible abuse that was covered up, but now it has come to light measures are been taken to convict those who were involved, lets not forget the depravities carried out by the Argentinian government on it's own population, torture, rape, murder, stealing babies. How long was that covered up for Paul? Does that also mean that we must look at all members of the Argentinian government and it's subsidiaries as criminals?
Yes I know that some have been brought to justice for these crimes and well done to your country for doing it. Oh and I suppose there is no crimes against children in Argentina ever!

@13. I 'get' why Pablo gets so incensed. He didn't get his 'turn'. Getting their 'turn' is very important for argies. Maybe he wasn't informed that there was an opportunity to get his 2 inches (fully extended) out. And, as you can tell, Pablo likes 'asshole' as well. Although it's unclear whether he's a 'giver' or a 'taker'. Or both.
@16. Please explain. There was no argieland until 1858. Your drivel refers to 1806/7 and 1845. You're referring to a spanish colonialist dictatorship. Suppose we refer you to the kingdoms of Wessex, Mercia? Just another made-up 'grievance'.

But let us, by all means, take every measure to to turn argieland into slime. Won't take a lot. 98% there already. Or should we call it 'shite'?
@18. Not 'colonised'. 'Invaded, occupied, raped and murdered'.
@21. What are you drivelling about?
@24. 'It's very difficult and phisically demanding to live scared....' Get used to being scared. As long as you try to 'claim' legitimate' British territory, you are on the edge. You may be obliterated tomorrow.

@27 There are different sets of standard in the FI and in Argentina towards each other.

    In Argentina:

You can wave the UK flag, the English rugby, soccer, etc shirts without any issue. No bans regarding this issue at all.

Any UK sport National Team can play official games whithout any issue.

Any UK citizen, islander and even Members of the Royal Family can enter the country, practice sports and visit all the national territory without any restriction.

Any UK citizen or Islander can get a DNI (Identification Card) as any other foreigner whitout any “special” treatement.

Any UK citizen, even islander, can buy land, properties and large farms even in Patagonia and in Tierra del Fuego

Any UK citizen, even islander, can print a book with his/her opinions about the war and the current political situation.

Any UK citizen, even islander, can be buried without having his/her grave violated in any way

Any UK citizen, even islander, can inherit properties, land and farms.

Any UK, and islander, representative can enter the country without any inconvinience and even talk to the press and the local media

Any UK commercial and private airplane can enter the Argentine Air Space. Even UK warplanes had done this when needed, for their safety, due to bad wheather in the Islands. All of this without being harassed by the Argentina Air Force.

Any UK, even islander, private ships can enter the Argentine Territorial Waters without any issue or “special green” light.

Royal Navy ships, and other ships, coming from the FI were assisted by argentine uthorities even when they had been rejected from the FI.

I hope any argentine citizen would received the very same kind of treatement from the UK and the FI.

    @31 My dear friend....

Can Falklands flagged vessels dock at Argentine ports? No they cannot but it's my understaning that argentine flagged vessels cannot dock FI ports but UK flagged vessels defnitly can (if they are not going to or comming from the islands). In addition, let me add that there is not any legal restriction to show the FI flag in the country. Off course it has no legal recognition at all.

Can Falklands bound charter flights overfly Argentine air space? No, they cannot but regular flights can but not a single argentine are plane can approach the island air space zone. UK planes can enter Argentina air space and work regularly.

Can cruise ships intending to visit the Falklands dock at Argentine ports? Legally they can in the whole country exept in two provinces, Buenos Aires and in Tierra del Fuego.

Can British TV presenters drive cars on their UK registered number plates without being pursued by a howling mob? Yes they lagally can. What had happened with BBC TV presenters is a stupid and dangerous thing since common people violently reacted in they way the TV presenters had previously planned and wanted.

Can the elected representatives of the Falkland Islanders meet the authorities of the country which seeks to annex them? Yes, they legally can but with the current government they were not received but they can enter the country and even freely speak by the media.

I do avoid them. More trouble than they are worth.

Argentines are not more dishonest. We are more corrupt, i.e., we do like taking more kickbacks and ask for “benefits” to any agreement or understanding. But that is not dishonesty if one is forthright about it (which you must be if you ask for anything “on the side”).

The British are dishonest: they tell you one thing to your face, and behind close doors meant the entire opposite or DO the entire opposite. I have seen this behavior plenty of times even here: British posters singing the praises of Chile or Colombia on one thread (to spite “argies”), and then in another they speak sh!t of those countries. That's how the British are.

Which is what makes you good diplomats. You are supremely talented for sounding sincere during the formalities but speaking ill and devil about the same people in the brandy & tobacco room.

That's why Argentines and British will never get along: we are direct, in your face, and yes many times crass and untactful. British are circumlocutious and glib at the same time, and are all about “looking good” and “protocol”, while argentines could care less about ceremony and pomp.

Diametrically opposed peoples with absolutely NOTHING in common.

It is funny to read the posts of these english wannabes talking about Roca.
What can they or the Guardian know about him, about Mitre, about the Período Agroexportador, the Conquista del Desierto and the role of England in all that?

Maybe these ignorant hillbillies also think that England had nothing to do with the Guerra de la Triple Alianza (read the role of the Baring Brother Bank), etc.

Maybe these hillbillies should ask why so many british sheep farmer companies appeared in the Patagonia along with the british railway, right after the Conquista del Desierto.

Not by chance Roca was an ally of Britain, and so his son (read the treaty Roca- Runciman, you paletos).

And a piece of advice, if you paletos, want to know something about Roca, Mitre, San Martín, Rosas or any other Argentinian, read HISTORY BOOKS, not the Guardian.

argentinian think that they are perfect and that they can do no wrong. That is why the country and the people are such a mess, from the president who thinks its ok to embezzle and misappropriate funds that were supposed to be spent on upgrading the railways ( she murdered those people that died in that train crash, by the way ), to stealing funds that were supposed to be used for repairing your icebreaker.

Right down to the taxi drivers who pass off their own home made counterfeit peso bills to unsuspecting tourists. You think you can do no wrong, you think that invading someone else's islands is not wrong because you are “recovering” them and “Liberating” the population, when all you are doing is stealing the land and subjugating the population.

So, my brainwashed, amoral, enemy. This is why we ARE better than you and continue to be better.......It's because you, your country and the entire population of it ( barring a tiny portion who keep the light burning ) are lost.........

One has no idea what all this has to do with-
A BBC crew is currently filming in Tierra del Fuego a documentary on the wildlife of the Beagle Channel Islands,
Also to mention it was made on argy territory,

all films or documentaries all over the world always mention where it was made, and always thank the local etc etc for letting them film,

It's been a while since we exchanged messages; I rarely look at MP anymore. I changed jobs recently to one where I hardly travel; I only go on a couple of trips a year and I am loving being at home more. The garden is really benefiting from it also!

I have to ask though: what the hell has happened to Toby, TTT or whatever he calls himself today? Is he just having a bad day on this thread or has he morphed over time into the pathetic creature I see before me above?

I can still recall a time when I used enjoy exchanging messages with him. He has always been clear from the start that he supports the Falkland Islanders' rights which I've always appreciated. I haven't always appreciated his hatred for the British but at least he still used to put up a decent argument, even if he did always run off and sulk too soon. Now it's like he's a hopeless drug addict who will just do and say anything regardless of what anyone thinks of him. Dear oh dear.

I hope all is well with you and that you're home for a nice break over Christmas.

i will go one better, for every argentine entering ANY british territory they have two british observers payed for by the argentine authorities we wouldnt want an episode like what happened with the state sponsored advert of the olympic athlete on the Falklands or Argentine visitors filming themselves planting the argentine (shit roll) flag whilst they are on Falkland territory, and make them sign documents that they state clearly the territory they are visiting is NOT argentine...its only fair!!!

In addition, in the case of the islander “no allowed things” are related to things FI cannot do as a political entity, have representative or a flag recognized, while the argentine “no allowed things” are related to people themselves..no allowed to but a property or to inherit another...

The rights you granted to argentine people, due to your legislation and due to the oreders ot the UK, made you be close to the situation of palestinian in Israel or to jewist in Germany back to 1934....

@56 Hi! Yes I am home for Christmas and the New Year hosting a house full as usual. I did most of my shopping in NYC on the way home to lighten the load. Glad to know you are settled. Travel is exciting and exhausting in equal measures.

TTT's decline is as rapid as Argentina's. His world shifted when he realised his nationalist inculcation that Argentina is the greatest country, everyone wants to live there and God loves them best, is in fact a big lie. Now he is full of self-loathing and he chooses to find relief in hating the British. It is a bit like self-harming as he never wins a debate.

The biggest decline has been Think. He always acted with superiority but the revelation that he is an expert in sniffing crotches and playing with his own shit made him forever irrelevant.

Oh my friend, like others of your compatriots you seem to be losing the plot. There is no legislation, in either the UK or the Falkland Islands, that treats Argentines any different from anybody else.

It is true, on the other hand, that some islanders aren't terribly happy with certain of their would be conquistadors breaching hospitality, good manners, and civilised behaviour by desecrating war memorials and waving the symbols of oppression around under the guise of commemorating earlier victims of the Malvinas neurosis. But the response has been no more than a petition, no stones, rocks, pick axe handles or howling mobs got up with the collusion of the authorities, if not by them directly.

@30. No doubt you are trying to make a point, supported by carefully selected examples, that all these are things that argies cannot do in the Falkland Islands. There's a few points that you appear to have overlooked. First, there is the fact that the UK offered to take the matter of sovereignty to the ICJ THREE times between 1947 and 1955. On each occasion, argieland declined. In 1964 and 1968, an argie light aircraft flew in to the Islands piloted by Miguel Fitzgerald without any restrictions trying to take advantage of the Islanders' friendliness. Between the two visits was the more serious visit of the hijacked DC-4 in 1966. Then there was the covert special forces landing later that year. One wonders how many more there were. Then the covert insertion of a naval base on Southern Thule in 1976. And, of course, we mustn't forget your invasion, occupation, war crimes and defeat in 1982. Thus clearly demonstrating, over a period of 20 years, your dishonesty and untrustworthiness. No proper government would fail to guard against any possible repeats. As an example, one can conceive of an argie military transport, tricked out to look like a civilian airliner, but carrying 240 armed troops. Or argies buying land and then bringing in troops disguised as farm workers, or scrap metal merchants. And so precautions have to be taken. Moreover, despite having been beaten, you argies persist in your ridiculous claims. Perhaps, when you've given up those claims and the equally unsuccessful attempts to damage the Islands' economy, AND your attitudes and actions have been monitored for around a hundred years, you might see some relaxation.
@32. Should we trot round your towns and see what's available? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Child_sex_tourism#South_America Should we go on and investigate the domestic situation? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Child_sex_tourism#South_America

What you are saying IS that there is UK legislation discriminating solely against Argentinian tourists. Please point out where in UK law that this is the case.
It was more likely that the immigration officers thought that they were posing as tourists but intended to do a runner once they were through, to join the ranks of illegal immigrants.
You should try American immigration controls. It took 1:30 minutes to clear immigration at L.A. Airport including eye scans, fingerprints and questioning before we got through to join our flight to Fiji and we did not even leave the transit lounge !
As someone who has no experience of international travel...or anything outside his narrow life experience.....it's just a hear-say story inadmissible as evidence.

    @7

It was obvious what the British authorities did.

Argentines being more of a threat to stay as illegals than Colombians, Brazilians, Chileans, and Mexicans? (which again, were stamped and processed within 2 minutes each). I'll believe that poor excuse of yours when the statistics back it up.

There was clear racist, discriminatory behavior at work, and the people were humiliated. They were given no reason for the delay.

Today it doesn't matter anyway since UK-Argentine relations at all levels are thankfully either destroyed, non-existent, or one of animus and antipathy.

Clever of you all the same to have unearthed the existence of the secret Argentina (10 minutes) bill, which mandates that all Argentines (but nobody else) are to be jerked around for at least 10 minutes prior to being granted entry. It's a secret, and you're not supposed to know about it. Was that Assange or Snowden that tipped you off?

TTT, 10 minutes at immigration is not a delay - that was the point. If you travelled at all you would know that fact. Your whining 'friends' sound like they were acting the victim with you as a willing audience. They were not delayed at all. It takes longer than that every time I go through U.S. immigration at least 8 times each year and I have a visa waiver and am TSA pre-approved. Look kiddy, what you are saying is utter baloney. I have worked beside UK Immigration and there is no such law to hold up Argentine citizens.
There was probably some query on one of the passports which would have to be computer checked against a data base. As they were a group, they would be held aside until the query was resolved. Loads of people including Americans, Australians, Canadians can be made to wait if there is something that needs to be verified.
With your usual paranoia you attribute this to something sinister.
If you had any experience of international travel, you would think that 10 minutes was the express queue !

However, if there are any such finds, the BBC will be made to issue this in the credits (in return for safe passage past the 20 year old Falklands veterans) sparking another protest at the UN where the fossils will back up Argentina's claim and CFK will award posthumous medals to the prehistoric creatures.

He was Argentinian, what else do you need to know ?

Two articles from the “ Daily Rail” one in 2009 and 2013. Anything more recent ?

Have you ever been to S.Africa and driven through a township and seen the casual violence ? I have. Virtually none of it gets reported. The police come, kick the crap out of whoever they find and then shove off again. No local would complain so it is unrecorded.

The firm from whom I hired my car told me in no uncertain terms NOT to drive through the Transkei. At best, the car would be stolen, at worst we would stand a chance of being murdered for a few Rands.
We were told to drive the Garden route to Knysna, come back to Capetown, fly to Durban and then pick up another hired car to continue to KwaZulu Nataal and then Jo'burg airport. We were also told not to stop for anything. If we saw an accident to continue a safe distance and then phone the police. This advice was given by black South Africans as well as white.
Britain is worse than this, absolute rubbish.

You people can yap all day and night, and do it all over again the next day.

Bottom line is: there was a tour group on a bus that wanted to cross the channel, and there were at least 6 different nationalities on board. 5 of the nationalities got a perfunctory stamp on the passport, 1 nationality was told they had to wait for further instructions. They were told the same thing even though there were several booths open.

That's all the damning evidence one needs.

It may be all the evidence you need, but out here in the real world it's an anecdote which may or may not ave some truth in it, and which may or may not have numerous other explanations than poor, poor Argentina. It's also a long way removed from your original contention that the UK has legislation specifically aimed against poor, poor Argentinians.

You people can yap all day and night, and do it all over again the next day.

    As do you !

    You said:-
“There is no legislation, in either the UK or the Falkland Islands, that treats Argentines any different from anybody else.”
But you ARE wrong, and I know this for a fact.

OK you obviously have researched the statutes relating to immigration into the UK, please direct us to the specific one dealing with ARGENTINIAN visitors.
If you cannot then you will have proved yourself a liar....surprise, surprise !

Uhmmm... most US and UK laws are SECRET so that the population cannot find out. It is how these “democracies” can act like dictatorships and eat their pie too. How many times have these countries invoked obscure laws to defend actions? In fact in the USA it is customary to bury dozens and dozens of laws inside controversial legislations as what they call “pork barrel” (code word for BRIBES and CORRUPTION), which are not even read and then become law.

What a load of garbage ! I worked in the UK Customs and Excise for 40 years and there were NO secret laws that we used or carried out. Any business or member of the Public could ask me to quote the law or statute that allowed me to question, examine, seize, caution detain or arrest any person.
I held a commission which listed my powers under various Acts of Parliament.

You quote “obscure laws”...your command of English is failing once more.
Obscure and secret have different meanings...look them up and learn !!!!!
