The only similarity with Cuba is that Argentina is operating an illegal blockade of the Falkland islands.

And British Petroleum has more American shareholders these days than Brits. Does he think it's still owned by the Government?

No wonder he couldn't get elected

He is just a Thick Idiot- but them he works for another one anyway! I think it is so good for the world that Argentina exists - it is such light comic relief for the world when Arg Presidents and diplomats open their mouths - they never fail to insert both feet - usually up their a**e.

Shall we rename Filmus Polly, you know, Polly the Parrot! He, and the trolley dolly, both repeat the old tripe spouted by KFC TMBOA (thanks to ChrisR).

Name calling aside, if this motley crew of losers is all that Argentina can produce no wonder the whole place is a pariah failed state crumbling at the edges.

Its also no longer called British Petrolium it is simply BP plc as it is a multinational company.

“to recreate a conflict which in our view should be resolved through peace, dialogue and democracy, just like Argentina has been claiming from 1983 onwards.”.....Argentina likes to claim things from certain dates don't they. They claim the islands from 1833 and they claim they want a peaceful and diplomatic solution since 1983.
I say Argentina's claim should start in 1765 (now go on and prove you have a claim on that date) and prove you want peaceful and diplomatic dialogue from 1982, go on give it a try, you have picked your line in the sand and I have picked mine.

....50 years ago “when they took a vote on which was the solution to the Malvinas question and there was none against starting talks between Argentina and the United Kingdom.“ According to the official, ”our strategy of isolating the United Kingdom is succeeding.“

Really in 2008 they had a vote in the UN 4th com. regarding territorial integrity and Self determination, and guess what Mr Filmus you couldn't get your draft text from the C24 passed so it was amended. The amendment, which struck the qualifying phrase “and where there is no dispute over sovereignty” from that operative paragraph, was voted on. 61 in favour to 40 against, guess that means most countries side with 'Self Determination' and not your sovereignty claim

I wonder what Mr. Filmus does the whole day in his office. And he probably has a few people as staff members, they too, must be bored stiff doing nothing besides agreeing they get paid for it.

“The Malvinas question, ”unlike other cases, is one of colonisation and of territorial usurpation,“ he claimed, because ”a part of the country was occupied militarily in 1833, when the United Kingdom disembarked men on islands which already belonged to our country.“”

Did Mr Filmus's country exist in 1833?

Apparently their strategy of writing a letter to Santa has also suffered a setback, they sent it to the wrong Pole.

He should spend less time looking in the mirror and use a better reflection wholly on the rights of people to decide their own future

“Filmus expressed that something similar happened 50 years ago”. I'm with Redrow on this. That's a hell of a 'success story'. The UK was so cowed that it fought, AND WON, a war over it. So, 50 years on, “Britain has the biggest military base south of parallel 50”. Parallel 50 would be just north of part of the border between Chile and argieland. So what he means is that RAF Mount Pleasant is bigger than anything argieland's got! We must remember this. Poverty-stricken Britain, heading into economic disaster and collapse, can STILL build, AND EQUIP, something as BIG as that 8,000 miles from the British Isles. GOOD, aren't we?

All this support that Argentina supposed to have but the General Assembly hasn't even produced a Resolution that was Falkland Islands specific since 1988 and that didn't even mention sovereignty. Mr. F is preaching to the delusional fools that believe in the Malvinas myth.

it is good that Daniel has come out to tell us his policy is succeeding, otherwise who would notice.

I am trying to remember the last time any politician told us his policy did not succeed.

Daniel reminds me of a comedian who is helpful enough to tell his audience how funny he is.

”he claimed, because ”a part of the country was occupied militarily in 1833, when the United Kingdom disembarked men on islands which already belonged to our country.“

The fact that Buenos Aires Government? United Provinces of River Plate? Argentina? claimed the Islands in the 1820s does not over rule the British claim, as that claim had not been abandoned. Two countries therefore had a claim but I cannot see why the United Provinces claim legally superseded the UK claim?

If it's because a lot of people mostly from Europe (i.e Brits, USA, Germans) -(in the 1820s that is: there were more people of South American origin in the early 1830s), that the Argentines claim were settling the islands for them, were living there for a total time span of 6? years. I cannot see how this supersedes an occupation of over 180 years (not counting the British tenure 1765-1774).

And if as Malvanistas here say, that raising a flag is enough to declare that the land wasn't British in 1820s, then the present Falkland Islanders can do the same to say they are.
Also I would like to be clear what Filmus is alleging by the British disembarking men, as no British 'men' stayed on the Islands after HMS Tyne and HMS Clio departed.

”we are convinced that through dialogue, peace and diplomacy we shall reach an accord.“

You were offered it recently but didn't show up.

I sincerely think that if Argentina finance the talks the UK should actively ask for more to discuss the Islands, again, only if members of the FIG attend.

Everytime Argentina bang on about dialogue, the Foreigners office should issue an acceptance to attend talks. As the Islanders have British passports, they are surely part of the 'British' that the Argentines wish to have dialogue with, thus:

    Argentina: We want the Islands.
FIG: We don't want to be Argentine.
HMG: Same time next year for the next 10,000 years?

But dialogue would take place as the Argentines wish. Then they can shut it.

“The Malvinas question, ”unlike other cases, is one of colonisation and of territorial usurpation,“ he claimed”

If we really want to get rid of colonisation in that region of the world then anyone speaking Spanish should be removed from the continent and given back to the indigenous peoples.

As some of you argies think , Falklands,,,,
[[ a remnant of old-fashion colonialism and will have to end, sooner or later. ]]
    mmm
And Argentina and most other South American countries are just that,
Remnants of old empire who robbed, murdered destroyed and stole of the original inhabitants,
And it must end; you must leave and give them the country back to its rightful owners,

And im sure my fellow bloggers would agree with that, and even you, as you stated it,
But the Falklands on the other hand,
Was NOT stolen , neither did we murder the inhabitants , so the British settled it peacefully,

But as you guys cannot or refuse to leave your past behind, even today you argues still want to take and steal what is not yours,
The only vermin in the south Atlantic ARE Argentina amongst others, a remnant of old-fashion colonialism and will have to end, sooner or later

    Just my opinion.

”, they have the biggest military base there is south of parallel 50.”

The dill obviously doesn't know about the military assets Chile has in Punta Arenas..... which are there simply to keep the thieving RGs at bay.....
or the secret Chilean nuclear missile base in Canal Murray.

There is a reason RG tourists aren't allowed anywhere near Canal Murray.....

    @30 Briton

Seeing as Castro gate crashes press conferences and asks daft questions, can't Filmus be ambushed at a press conference abroad by a Falkland Islander posing as a journalist?
That would wipe the smile off his face and ensure a dash to the nearest crapper.
