Hundreds of families welcomed back their loved ones for Christmas as HMS Iron Duke returned to Portsmouth from a successful South Atlantic patrol conducting maritime security operations and providing support to British Overseas Territories in the region. Read full article

Dec 21st, 2014 - 11:52 am - Link - Report abuse 0Just a thought but did this one warship cover more nautical miles in 6 months than the entire Argentnian Navy in all of 2014?
Funny how when she visited the British Overseas Territory of the Falkland Islands, Argentian has a hissy fit about militarisation of the South Atlantic.
Yet I'm sure the People of the Falkland Islands and all the other places she visited were very happy to see Iron Duke.
And TMBOA Navy does what exactly? Jack Shit
Dec 21st, 2014 - 12:00 pm - Link - Report abuse 0and what the fuck are these pirates patroling in south america?
Dec 21st, 2014 - 12:03 pm - Link - Report abuse 0why dont they return to the england and start patroling the whole herd of english criminals who leave the country as if they were tourists?
eh??
@3. Well, that's pretty easy really, sonny. You see, we have a fair number of friends down that way. So we popped in to say hello. Helped out where we could. Because a Royal Navy frigate is quite a capable vessel. Also, we have property down there. But it's a pretty lawless neighbourhood. So we need to swing by every so often to make sure that the local scum haven't thought up something new. View her as something like the 'cop on the beat'. Iron Duke has the equipment to be effective against the land, the air, the surface and sub-surface. Various guns, Sea Wolf anti-air missiles, Harpoon and Sea Skua anti-ship missiles, Sting Ray anti-submarine torpedos. And a helicopter. That probably means dipping sonar. You might call her a one-vessel catastrophe. Looking back at zathras' comment, I seem to recall that, for the last couple of argie vessels that tried to cross the South Atlantic, one had to use sails and the other broke down. And HMS Iron Duke managed 27,442 miles. Buenos Aires to Cape Town is just over 4,000 miles. Argie boat couldn't make it. Royal Navy frigate can do it more than 5 times.
Dec 21st, 2014 - 12:46 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Incidentally, it's called a 'deterrent'. Just to remind you that we're watching. Imagine HMS Iron Duke, or an even more capable destroyer, sailing into the estuary of the River Plate. Been there before, since you mention tourism. Didn't we leave you a landmark? Some nazi battlecruiser that blew itself up rather than come out and fight? Hang on, isn't the argie navy much the same?

Dec 21st, 2014 - 12:52 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Your a bit slow on the uptake, as the ship is engaged in perfectly legitimate activities, a concept that is completely foreign to Argentina.
As #4 says, it is part of their duty to keep their eye on the nation of scumbags- of which you are the current prize example - in their place. My apologies to the decent Argentinians whose name is continually besmirched by foul-mouthed plonkers such as #3.
Dec 21st, 2014 - 01:11 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@6 I second your comments re the prime foul mouthed plonked!

Dec 22nd, 2014 - 12:29 am - Link - Report abuse 0Didn't your very good neighbours Chile tell you that they invited the Royal Navy (HMS Dragon) to their Exponaval 2014 and performed naval exercises with them?

Oh, were you not aware that HMS Ambush was just invited to Rio de Janeiro to mark the Brazilian Navy centenary celebrations - ”we were delighted to be able to host senior military personnel on board and to demonstrate the capabilities of this formidable submarine.” It seems Brazil was quite happy to host them and loved having this impressive submarine in their waters.

Do you actually live in South America? You don't seem to know much about what happens down there and how popular the Royal Navy are with your supportive neighbours.
The big question in my mind is whether or not Ambush took the direct route or did they detour via the Ghanaian coast to do the full Royal Diamond Shellback.
Dec 22nd, 2014 - 12:50 am - Link - Report abuse 0One thing is for certain, with HMS Dragon on the surface, HMS Ambush submerged and RAF Typhoons in the sky, there are no safer and more secure islands on the planet than the Falklands.

Dec 22nd, 2014 - 09:42 am - Link - Report abuse 0The Falklands Islands, try to spell it correctly: FALKLAND ISLANDS.
Are a British Overseas Territory.
Thus British Warships are in exactly the right place either in International or Falkland Islands Territorial Waters.
Does Argentina have any Warships who could make it under their own steam to the Falklands, let alone 27+ THOUSAND miles.
paulcedron, shut it.
Dec 22nd, 2014 - 11:10 am - Link - Report abuse 0@8. Small problem. You're a prick. You don't get to say where their duty lies. You are an irrelevance. I remind you that Britain has friends in the area. It also has territory in the area. If you have a problem, we may not be able to change whatever you think of is a mind, but we can stop you opening your mouths again. EVER. Not too bothered about what you 'appreciate'. Your performance over the last 68 years has been CRAP. Significant features - corruption, criminality, degeneracy, deviant, genocide, incontinence, larceny, mendacity, xenophobia. Excellent reasons to remove you. Let's go back to 1945. The difference between you and 1945 Japan is what? Wannabes. Wannabe imperialist. Wannabe colonialist. Wannabe 'power'. And the reality? An 11-year old BRITISH nuclear-powered submarine DESTROYED argieland's lead ship in 1982.The rest did what argies do best. They RAN!

7 of the best submarines in the world ,
And CFK will pray.
